I brought two phones in for a vital court case involving my 7 month old son. Unfortunately it is life and death for him and I explained that to Kevin and Steve. I also mentioned that I know phones may not be their most profitable job so I would prefer to pay them whatever their ordinary margins are to make sure that they would be able to give me the same priority as everyone else. I was told 4 days... .. . 3 weeks later I finally got my phones back. They didn't extract all the information and instead chose to focus on one conversation (I did mention that one conversation via text was of particular importance but they were supposed to be getting everything). This particular conversation was not the one I asked for. Also during the 3 weeks, I would call and would be promised on at least a dozen occasions (not exaggerating) that someone would call me back, as they were busy, to update me on the job. No one ever would and I'd have to hunt down people by calling in constantly to get a response as to status. That response was always "the phones are hooked into the machine right now", "my guy isn't here", or "I've been swamped". I got the feeling I wasn't a cash cow for them and anything they could make more money on took priority. Several times I was told the people working on my job had left to work on some other job instead of focusing on mine and finishing it. Greed seams to be king. After everything was said and done, I asked Steve why it took so long and even after all that why the information they pulled wasn't what I filled into the paperwork they had me do when I first came in. The same information I had asked for on 2 other separate occasions (Kevin told me twice when I hunted them down that they were almost done pulling x,y, and z and I corrected him that it was the wrong conversation/number twice). Steve kept giving me excuses saying they were making progress or they can't pull everything. The truth is, I personally did a more thorough recovery on the phones when I got it back from them using free widely used software. The only thing they did do that I couldn't was pull one conversation in detail and it wasn't the right one. I know for a fact Steve (the owner) routinely lied to me. They did screw up. They did look for the wrong information and waste 3 weeks. And they did screw me over knowing how important this job was for my 7 month old and his life/safety. They did this by neglecting my job, lying, and by being greedy. I cannot say enough bad about these guys. I'm 31 and have been in the computer sector since I wrote my first line of code at 14. The audacity that these guys thought I wouldn't figure out what was up!
Description of Work: They were supposed to do data recovery/forensics but they completely failed to do anything. They misrepresented themselves and the service entirely.

Description of Work: They performed a free scan of my crashed hard drive and said they would get back to me within a week to see if any of my data was recoverable. I removed the hard drive from my laptop and drove it to them so I could hand it over personally. Although there were several serious snow storms and emergencies, it still took them 2 months to look at my data. I called them numerous times and they reshuffled their priorities to look at the data. Just a hard drive from a crashed laptop, nothing complex. But it took them way too long in my opinion, although it was a free service. You get what you pay for.

I took the hard disk drive from my laptop and drove to their location to drop it off. Everyone was friendly and seemed willing to help. They stated after the initial evaluation, there is generally a 5 day turn-around. Per website = "The average service time on a standard data recovery service, can take up to 5 business days." I assumed that the initial evaluation would be very quick since they are not trying to recover anything yet. Unfortunately, there were a few major snow/ice storms where local businesses closed (and rightfully so - why risk the lives of employees?) and so did theirs. Even my job was closed as well during these inclement weather occurrences. So I anticipated a few more days to evaluate my disk drive, even a week more. Unfortunately, it took them 5 weeks to look it over and send it back. I had to call numerous times to get updates. No where near close to the turn around I was expecting. Unfortunately, the disk drive was shot and basically no information was retrievable. I'm glad I took it to professionals to look it over (regardless of the result). They were knowledgeable and friendly. It's just the 5 week turn around time that I was not happy with. Again, it was a free service, so you get what you pay for. If I had to do it over, I might still try them again: but consider if I made a small down payment, would it speed up the initial evaluation?

This is a local firm. One time I called them because I had trouble starting the computer. That was such an easy fix; they did not charge me for it. This time they were very fast. They did a great job fixing everything for me. They were very good and very professional. They will also set up your system if you need to. They are very good people.
Description of Work: My laptop was totally infected with viruses. Networks By Design had to take the laptop, pull out the drive and clean it up to make it right.
