Description of Work: They installed a 2 zone 3 ton split ductless AC . I was very satisfied with all aspects of their service. I even recommended them to my cousin. |These are the guys you want to do the job. Their price was very fair. I had gotten other estimates for the same system for hundreds of dollars more.

Response from Suffolk Systems Inc
This customer called our office and said that he needed a blower motor installed in his unit and requested a service call. We dispatched a service technician. The service technician went through the system and found that the unit had been completely flooded, the ductwork still had water in it and the electrical components had been shorted due to water exposure. The customer was informed that his unit was not repairable and that we would provide him with an estimate for replacement. The customer stated in his review, that he was charged $250.00. That is absolutely not true. He was charged a $98.00 service call + sales tax of $8.45. The total invoice was $106.45. He was also told that this amount would be credited towards the purchase of a new system should he decide to use our company. Since a service technician was dispatched and spent the time going through the system (at the customer's request), we charged a minimal service fee. Diagnostic and repair work is not free of charge. This customer was not charged for an estimate. He was charged for diagnostics.

Very poorly.
Description of Work: Salesman recommended $300 pressure test as a potential way to save the money of replacing entire system & was told the $300 would be applied to cost of system. This recommendation should not have been made in my case and I feel duped. My house was bought as a foreclosure. The system was from 1998, very poorly done and never worked for me. I explained this to the salesman and how filthy the returns and supplies were and that I am asthmatic/allergic. Tthe salesman did inspect the equipment. When their mechanic showed up - 2 hours late - to do the test, he pointed out how deteriorated the compressor was and how equipment in the attic didnt look too good. However, he never recommended that I not do the test. He had a "just doing what I'm told" attitude. The test failed and it was then I got the full explanation from the mechanic how the dirt gets into the coil causing leaks; no surprise to him. A shock to me! I called the salesman and the office on Friday eve after the test. No answer till Monday and it was from the salesman. Thinking my system could be saved I really hadnt checked his new system estimate. (compressor was 3500) Upon review, I discovered their price for new system was the highest price among all 5 estimates I had gotten (4 from Angies List.) Over $12 K for a 3.5 ton, 16 seer system. Since I saw such good prices for this company on A/L, I asked the salesman why and if he could do any better. He took off $200. Another insult. Other issues: When I called in June for an estimate there was a ridiculous wait of 3 weeks. Then after the pressure test, to do an install was another 2 weeks with no Saturday installs. To boot, when the salesman was at my house for the estimate, he noticed a diving board not being used and asked if he could have it for a relative. He took me totally by surprise and I said yes. He said he offered me money, I dont remember that. My fault for being exhausted and letting him have it for free. It is worth money. His fault for even asking and taking advantage of me (single woman) in this situation. And SO UNPROFESSIONAL. My opinion is that the salesman is slippery - be careful. He did me another "favor" by badmouthing the company I did choose to do the work - who are avail 7 days a week and did an excellent job, with one day's notice and at $2,000 less. Suffolk Systems may do great work; I cant say. They were too busy to accomodate me. I do think they are a small operation and one cannot tell that from A/L. Also, Zero quality control on their salesperson. Frankly, I am still baffled by how bad my experience was in comparison to others on A/L. Although I want to forget this ever happened, A/L readers should know.

Response from Suffolk Systems Inc
We came to do an estimate at the customer’s home at her earliest convenience. She did not wait three weeks for anything during this estimating process. In fact, she sent repeated emails thanking us for our prompt responses to her many questions. After examining her system, which was completely inoperable, she explained to our salesman, Bob, that a different company who was there to give an estimate, told her that they were relatively sure that her air handler in the attic was salvageable. She inquired as to whether we could salvage it, since she was trying to keep the cost of the system replacement down. We explained to her that we could not tell by looking at it and the only way to know with complete certainty would be to perform a pressure test and a leak test on the unit. Due to the condition of her ductwork and her allergy/asthma issues, we recommended that she install all new ductwork. She asked if cleaning the ductwork would suffice and we told her no. A pressure test requires the technician to come over, isolate the air handler by brazing the lines with a torch, filling the unit with nitrogen to bring the pressure up, leaving the unit in a vacuum and making a return call to the home a couple of days later and see it the pressure held. This was all explained and the price given to perform this work was $300.00. We made it abundantly clear to her that we would credit the $300.00 to her install, should she decide to use us, if she wanted to do the pressure test and the pressure did not hold. We proceeded to give her a quote for replacing the outdoor condensing unit and all of the ductwork both with and without a new air handler, which was for a 4 ton system, not a 3.5 ton system, PRIOR to doing the pressure test. I must stress that she had our estimates, before we ever commenced doing the pressure test. She was in no way obligated to do any work. Although she stated that she did not read the estimates and was unaware of our pricing, she sent an email response after receiving both quotes stating that she was obviously more interested in the less expensive quote and requested that we do the pressure test. There are a lot of factors that could explain the price difference between our quotes and other companies, the simplest being the size of the system and the replacement of all of the ductwork. At the customer’s request, we performed the pressure test. Our technician does not have an “I’m doing what I am told attitude”. To date, I am not exactly sure what that is. The absolute only way to know if the air handler can hold pressure and is not leaking is to pressure test it, which is what he was authorized to do. On the Friday that we were to return to see if the air handler held pressure, I set up an appointment time of 4:30 pm for the technician to return and complete the pressure test. The technician ran into issues on a job prior to hers. I personally called her at 3:30pm and explained the same. Her concern was that we definitely come on that day. I told her that our technician would arrive to her between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. She said that would be fine and thanked me for the call so that she could run out and do a few errands. Our technician arrived at 6:40 pm. We did not show up two hours late. She was informed of, and consented to, the change in appointment time. Our technician proceeded to check the pressures and unfortunately, the pressure did not hold and he informed her that the air handler would need to be replaced. She paid the technician and apparently tried to telephone the office at 7:45 pm. We, like most companies, are not open at that time. She then contacted Bob directly first thing Monday morning. She inquired about when she could have the system installed and wanted to know if it could be done that week or on Saturday. She was told the system could be installed the following week, since we had already made installation commitments to numerous other clients for the week and that we do not install on Saturdays. This is not an indication of the size of our company. This is an indication of the quality of our company. We are available on the weekends for emergency service only. Our technicians and installers work extremely hard all week and need to have some family time on the weekends. We are in business for over 30 years and we are very family oriented, since we are family owned and operated. She then told Bob the name of the other company that she was considering and asked him if he had ever heard of them. Bob’s reply verbatim was “Yes I have heard of them, they have been around a long time and have a good reputation, just like us.” We have NEVER and would NEVER bad mouth another company. It is unprofessional and unnecessary, which is why we are so respected in our industry. We have now made it company policy to not accept any property from a customer. During the first meeting at the customer’s house, Bob noticed a diving board laying in the back yard and inquired if it was for sale since she had no pool. She explained that she filled the pool in some time ago and that she had been thinking about putting it on Craig’s List but did not want to be bothered with the process. Bob offered to buy the diving board from her, since his niece was looking for one. She told him that he could have it. Again, Bob offered her payment for it and she declined. To state that he is “slimy” and “taking advantage of a single woman”, because he inquired about the diving board, is not only way off the mark and absurd, it is outright offensive. We do not employ “slimy” people. A simple “no, it is not for sale” would have sufficed. Bob had sent an email after this encounter offering payment again and she did not respond.

Description of Work: I had a whole new air conditioning system installed in my home. Bob, the gentleman who provided the estimate was very knowledgable about the product and installation procedure and showed up exactly when he said he would. Dan, the installer, came to my home two days before the the installation date and went over every detail as to what was being done. They came to install the system on april 18, 2012 at exactly the time they said they would come. They were very professional and neat. If a change neede to be made, they consulted me first. We are very happy with the job they did and would definitely recommend them to others.

Perfect!
Description of Work: Here it was in the middle of an intense heat wave in NY...and we finally decided that we MUST get a central AC system installed in our home. We called three companies in the area...but only one...Suffolk Systems...came immediately (that day) to survey our home to get us a timely quote. Bob arrived and gave us a very detailed explanation of the overall systems and the installation process. We had researched other companies as well on AL...but we found that Suffolk Systems had an A rating across the board. The closer was when Mike (the owner) came to discuss the project. Intuition is an important thing when choosing a contractor...I I felt this guy was trust worthy. I was not wrong. Bottom line: They quoted the job...the price was fair... they only install quality American Standard systems...we hired them...set the date for the project...they arrived on time...the workers were extremely respectful of our home... Mike was here the whole time managing the project....they finished on time...cleaned up...Mike explained everything about the system. It has worked perfectly, We went on vacation for two weeks after the system was istalled...came home to a cool, comfortable home. I am delighted!

As stated above
Description of Work: I had an old Central A/C system that was not working properly last season. Because I intended to renovate my home, I wanted to repair the old system pending renovations. Other companies only wanted to replace with new. Suffolk Systems "patched things up" to keep the system running for most of the season until it completely crapped out. The renovations are now on hold and as such, will replace the system with high efficiency equipment this season. In March I got four quotes to replace the old system, including one from Suffolk Systems. Suffolk Systems proved their compentency last season and offered a considerable discount because of last season's service. Suffolk got the job, showed up on time, did the work professionally with excellent quality of workmanship, and met the quoted price despite needing to "add" unforseen items to the job. I fully recommend them.
