I’m very satisfied with the work they did and there was excellent communication throughout the job. When I changed the scope of the work from small spot repairs to re paving major sections of the lot the team at Reitman scrambled to meet my needs and they were very fair with the pricing. Reliability & value was my experience with Reitman.

+ -1 moreThe service was very good, and they were very responsive. If only the patches were not coming up already, I would be 100% satisfied. All of the workers that I interacted with were very nice and pleasant. They were also responsive to anything I asked or needed.
Description of Work: I had them seal-coat my driveway, which was done very well. It made a big difference to the look of the driveway. I also had them do some hot patches, which were not cheap, but needed to be done. I was just noticing the other day that the some of the patches are already coming up. I did not have any snow plowing or anything on my driveway this winter, so this was very disappointing to see.

+ -1 moreThey dropped asphalt all over my sidewalk and left. By the time I was able to call them back the asphalt had adhered to the sidewalk. They were able to get most of it off but not all of it. They called me a silly woman and asked me why i was bothering calling them back. The sidewalk is still discolored and has pockmarks from the asphalt.

+ -1 moreThe job began in Nov. of 2008. We were not yet living in the house. They began the job on time, but not only managed to upset the neighbor by tearing up his grass and shrubs, but they also dented our garage door. On the second day of work they put up a Belgian block wall on the front steps side of the driveway where the brick planter had been. By the end of the day, we received a stop work order due to the neighbor having called the town to complain about the damage. It was clear that the wall that they put up was not sloped properly and the mortar was cracking immediately. We received our work permit on Dec. 11th, but work did not resume. We have not been able to get Reitman to return to the job to fix the wall or to commit to a time schedule for completing the driveway. They told us in late May that they would come and look at the wall and that they would also charge us extra to fix it. So far, they have not looked at the work. We have not heard from them in 2 weeks. The driveway cannot be completed if the wall is not fixed as it is clear that the wall is not held together properly and is both unsafe and unattractive. Because there is no driveway material, the grading is negative and with the heavy rains, we are concerned about water getting into the house and destroying the foundation, etc. We also learned that the RCA they deposited in our driveway is little more than garbage rather than the crushed concrete it should be. It is really disgusting to look at broken pieces of glass metal, tile, bone, etc. We have small children and they cannot play outside because I'm afraid they'll pick something up from the driveway area and get hurt. Unfortunately, we did not know this beforehand as we are new to the area, but everyone we have spoken to had told us that this company does not have a good reputation for quality work.

+ -1 morecontracted with them to replace the asphalt on my driveway. they were very unprofessional in scheduling a time to do it. finally they showed up and ripped the driveway, but would not schedule for return to put the asphalt back on. whereas this is done in a day or a few days by others it took them 6 weeks before they finally rescheduled. I asked them to be there at 1 p.m. so I could leave my job and be there to show them the trouble spots so they would give appropriate slant to prevent puddling when it rains or snows.they agreed on the time , but they showed up 3 hours earlier and since I was not home jimmied and ripped open my garage door, invaded my home, moved my belongings and did a horrible job and left. when I called them they acted as if this was routine and I should be thankful. I asked for a police report, and thankfully since I had put the charges on credit card I refused to pay. they started calling my home and leaving threatenning messages on my answering machine. I resisted all their Mafioso threats. they even sent a couple of thugs to my door to tell me to pay up. I refused to pay. around a year later we went to court, and although I essentially had to rip off their work and accept double cost to do the job again, the judge allowed them to hae the cost of their material. I wish I could say I taught them a lesson, but that would not be true. These sheisters do this everyday and get away with it. this is their M.O., and they are still very active in my neighborhood. he comes in and gives a low estimate but they do a kind of a job that in a couple of years you'd have to call them back. that is going to cost you 3 times more. I so wish I had Angie's list then, but I did not.I didn't even do my due dilligence to call the consumer affairs line and find out about the hundreds of claims against them. any one who reads these reports and history on Angie's list and still gives them the work has to be a "Moron".

+ -1 moreThis is a terrible company. Everything they did was done wrong, took months to complete. It was only completed after we called the consumer advocate for Newsday. They contacted them and threated to write an article in the local newspaper about our problems. They then came back and "completed" the job. The first time they put the hot tub slab in they didn't use cement blocks and the sides was just oozing cement that was dried. They had to redo this. The doors in the side of my garage don't open the whole way because they put the pavement at too high of a height. After they left, we had to have the hot tub slab redone again because it wasn't level and the hot tub couldn't be installed. After months of this, we paid them everything except 1000.00 because we couldn't open the doors on the side of our garage. The owner of the company left a threating message on my answering machine saying they were going to sue us for everything we had and we would be on the street because the house would be theirs unless we paid the bill. My seven year old heard this and couldn't sleep for a week because she thought we would be on the street. They then put a lien on our house for the 1000.00 dollars! We had to hire a lawyer to get the lien taken off of our house. While at court we met another older women whose husband had just died. She had never used B.Reitman but her neighbor had. The neighbor didn't complete payment because the work was so bad. She was in court because they put her address on the house lien instead of her neighbors. Although she called them several times to tell them of the mistake they never corrected it. Our patio is now leaking into our basement, our doors still don't open. It was the worst experience we have ever had with a contractor. Please protect yourself ...don't even call the is company. They should be out of business and in hell.

Description of Work: IN SEPTEMBER 2006 THIS COMPANY REMOVED MY OLD CRACKED DRIVEWAY. THEY THEN PUT DOWN A NEW BLACKTOP DRIVEWAY. IT LOOK VERY GOOD AND I WAS HAPPY. A YEAR LATER( 2007) THEY CAME TO SEAL IT. AT THAT TIME I NOTICED SOME SMALL CRACKS BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND THE COATING WOULD FILL IT IN. THIS YEAR THEY CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY DRIVEWAY SEALED AGAIN. THIS TIME I POINTED OUT TO THEM THE CRACKS WHICH WAS MUCH LARGER THAN LAST YEAR. IT WAS SEALED AGAIN BUT I NOW HAVE LARGE CRACKS. IT WAS CRACKS LIKE THIS THAT MADE ME HAVE THE DRIVEWAY REPLACED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I BELIEVE THAT WORK WAS NEVER DONE RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAD RECOMMENDED THIS COMPANY TO MY FELLOW WAR VETERANS BUT NOW I WILL NOT.

+ -1 moreThis is the worst company of any kind I have ever dealt with. When they removed the old asphalt, they crashed their machine into the newly-shingled side of the house, and then told the general contractor it was not their fault because the ground was soft. Although I had specifically contracted (and paid) for a cast-iron strip drain, they installed a cheap stamped-steel drain, and then tried to claim there was no difference. When I stopped payment on the check for the strip drain, they sent a voice mail and certified letter saying they were contacting the DA to prosecute me criminally. (Once they realized I'm a lawyer, the criminal threats vanished and they installed the correct strip drain.) Despite making six different appointments to complete the driveway, they never have done so - 8 months later, it's still dirt. Each time they have failed to show up, they did not call to apologize or explain, and when I track them down, they act as their dereliction is no big deal.
Description of Work: Removal of old asphalt driveway, approximately 80 feet long; installation of strip drain and belgian block border.

+ -1 moreI didn't choose this company for my driveway repair and sealcoat because I wasn't happy with the initial phone contact. I did not get a timely return phone call. When I did hear from someone, they gave me a reasonable estimate, but tried to pressure me with factors like scheduling, which I felt would have benefited them more than me. Also, I would have had to meet with a different person to get an estimate on the repair part of the job (their estimate was for sealcoat only). It was just easier with another company.
