About us

Romber Works is a small business focused on service and quality. Back in the mid 80's Ross Brown began to work on estates with beautiful antiques and incredible wood detail that is missing today. He began to copy the designs and the building techniques in many custom projects. Over time this turned into a growing business with many loyal customers. Ross listens to the home owners ideas, offer suggestions, present CAD and hand drafted drawings & finally create the perfect solution to your needs. Operating with two employees unless the scope of work requires additional support, Ross works with a few different contractors that have completed many jobs with his company. Romber Works can also work with your contractor, architect or engineer.

Overall, I would rate Ross Brown as one of the best contractors who has worked for me. Without any reservations, I would recommend that you use his services.
Description of Work: Ross Brown and his team was given the task of constructing a deck at the back of the house and placing a hot tub on one side of the deck so that it would be possible to enter the hot tub from the deck. This job was further complicated by the fact that a window that faced the deck had to be converted to a door so that it would be possible to enter the deck from the house. Also, because of the layout of the deck and hot tub, the space for the back up generator had to also be planned for in conjunction with this job. Ross and his team did an excellent job of scoping out the job with me and identifying potential problems and issues well in in advance. The deck was constructed on time and the entry to the hot tub was well done. Also, the area around the hot tub was nicely embellished with blue stone. Ross is a hard-working, honest and dependable contractor. Having been exposed to many unethical contractors in the past, it is truly a pleasure to work with Ross and his team. With time my confidence in Ross and his team has grown and we would wholeheartedly use his services for any other jobs that we have planned in the house.

I loved the work. It went through pretty smoothly as smooth as remodeling goes. He even got us a AWESOME price on the granite. He didn't nickel and dime us and actually came in under budget. It was a few days late but that was the granite company's fault ,the cabinets were installed on time.
Description of Work: I had my cabinets refaced and a granite countertop put in and granite counter on the island.

Thank you for your great review. I always offer suggestions but the home owner usually has a good idea of what they want and how much they can spend. I just try to work with their ideas and budget. At the same time make sure all options are known. They had thought that granite was out of reach but with fair cabinetry priceing and a break on the granite it worked at. Both we're very nice to work with and I hope they enjoy their updated kitchen for a long time. Thanks again, Ross Brown

We wanted to enlarge our kitchen in a 1920's stone house. Ross arrived the same day I called him and looked over my designs. He took some measurements and e-mailed me an estimate with 3-D kitchen designs within 2 days. They were great! He included everything that I wanted and even had some extras I had not thought of. His prices were much less than what I had gotten from any "big box" home improvements stores. And he was including more cabinets that I had originally thought possible due to our budget. He scheduled the work in a timely manner and showed up promptly. He and his helper were neat, clean and very professional. His truck and trailer are well maintained and look great at a job site. He did a wonderful job and was able to accomodate my requests for some extra work while the job progressed. I changed my mind about having an island counter in soapstone because we ran over budget, but Ross made me a island counter out of granite tiles that I provided and then edged it in wood. It looks fabulous and only cost me $700 including all materials. The soapstone was going to be $3,000. Anywhere he saw an issue he fixed it better than I expected. Just like it was in his own house. The work went quickly and was right on time. He didn't run out every few hours for a coffee break - he put in long hours and the swiftness of the job reflected that. My finished cabinets are beautiful and just what I wanted. He even re-did a door and changed a design on the fly after I asked for an undercounter microwave area. When it came time for the floors he worked around our scheduled camping trip so that he could have the wood floors refinished before we came home. He worked all weekend so that when we came home we could have dry floors. And it looked great. On the last day he spent all day just finishing all the little things. He walked me through and made sure all the doors were adjusted and that i was happy with everything. And he fixed any little thing I asked him to with no complaint. He even took the time to install an edge on my living room fireplace tile. I've been waiting 12 years for my husband to do that!! It took him 10 min., but it was totally cool that he would do "honey-do" work that my husband should be getting around to :) I would totally recommend Romber Works for any carpentry/cabinet/remodel needs.
Description of Work: Complete set of kitchen cabinets, new wall, installation of granite tiles for kitchen island counter and wood floor refinishing.

Thank you for your comments. We really enjoyed this project. The owner knew exactly what she wanted and had spent years thinking about it and looking through magazines. We just confirmed some of her ideas and suggested some that she may not have been aware of. One her ideas I really liked and I think I'll suggest it to future customers. This is an example of what we like to do. We are not limited to standard cabinets. We build everything by hand and the customers appreciate being able to have just about any idea implemented and done right. Thanks again, Ross Brown

We initially contacted Ross about repairing damage from a small fire in our newly-purchased country house. He was very responsive and timely in getting the work done. The quality of work was amazing - he matched our floor so perfectly that you could not tell anything had happened, and the trim and sheet rock work were excellent as well. Ross's knowledge extends to general contracting issues and he has helped us identify a number of other (rather serious) issues with the house that we fully expect to use him to repair, including a rip out and install of a new tub and shower surround. He is sensitive to budget constraints and creative in the solutions he suggests, without compromising quality.
Description of Work: Repair fire damage to our hardwood floor, sheet rock, and arts and crafts trim in our newly-purchased country house. We subsequently used him to install a post and light fixture at our driveway.

Having picked Ross after interviewing three other contractors that were also recommended to us, my wife and I are happy to say that we are very happy and pleased with the quality, diligence, attention to detail, professionalism, and ethical manner in which Ross performs and conducts himself. We wholeheartedly recommend him without reservations and would definitely use his services for follow up work as and when it arises. All the jobs committed to by Ross were performed on time, and the amounts charged were in line with his original estimates. Ross is a dependable, honest, hardworking and conscientious contractor - pick him and you will not be disappointed !
Description of Work: Having bought a home in Rhinebeck recently, my wife and I needed to make several structural changes and alterations before we could move into the house. More specifically, the main jobs that were required of Ross and his team were to: 1) Install two inter-connecting doors in a two-family home 2) Finish floors, paint and hook up a washer/dryer on a portion of the house by a specific deadline 3) Build steps and a handicap access ramp in the entrance of the house 4) Do a complete re-modeling of the counter tops and kitchen cabinetry 5) Paint and finish all the floors of the house 6) Cut an arch on the wall separating two small bedrooms (to open up the space) 7) Take care of several smaller jobs such as adding shelves, lighting fixtures, plumbing etc.

This is the company to go to if you need some quality woodworking performed. They showed up to measure the job and then left with one of the doors in order to find the matching paint color. They promised to return in a couple of days with the finished doors. True to their word they did return within a couple of days to install the doors and the ramp. The doors were beautiful and the color was a perfect match to the rest of the building. However, one of the support beams on the right-hand door had a slight warp to it that only became noticeable once the door was installed. Without hesitation, and amidst many apologies, they said that they would replace the door within a couple of days. Once again, Romber Works made good upon a promise and returned within 2 days with a new door that fit perfectly and looks great. They even went out of their way to find replacement keys for the original lock. This company does business the "old" way: high-quality work, being on time, standing by their work and putting the customer first. Highly recommended! We are going to use them to re-do our entire kitchen with custom made cabinetry. They will not disappoint.
Description of Work: Replaced the 2 wooden swing-out doors on our storage shed. The original doors had to be removed due to the height of the rollover bar of a new garden tractor that we had just purchased. Romber Works had to enlarge the opening by cutting a new header and then made completely new doors that perfectly matched the rest of the structure. They also pulled up the old entrance ramp which had not been constructed properly and replaced it with a new one that is much sturdier.
