On or about 6/10/15, I took my car to Ed's Auto Sales and Garage to get a diagnosis and estimates for fixing 3 problems with my 2004 Cadillac. I left my car at Ed's. On or about 6/12/15 I stopped by Ed's to learn the results. Bradley Smith, the head mechanic, told me that he had diagnosed the transmission problem, said a new TCC solenoid/valve would fix the problem and it would cost $56.23 for the part, $975.00 labor to install the part, and $43.00 for transmission fluid for a total of $1074.23. With $85.93 sales tax it came to $1160.16. He also told me that my car needed a new $125 brake line (parts and labor) and a new $359.94 front wheel bearing (($58.95 diagnostic, $150.99 part, and $150 labor). I told him to schedule my car for repairs and fix all 3. I left the car. On 6/16/15 I paid the $1683.90 bill and picked up my car. I took it for a test drive and also checked underneath for leaks. The new front wheel bearing and brake line were fine. Those cost $484.94 + $38.80 sales tax for a total of $523.74 for repairs that were actually performed. After several miles of driving, the "check engine" light came back on, indicating to me that the transmission problem had not been fixed. I further confirmed that the torque converter was still not locking up by the fact when I pressed down lightly the gas pedal at 60 mph, the engine rpm's would quickly increase by 250-350 rpm's, as indicated by the car's tachometer. I took the car back to Ed's Garage. Bradley Smith said he would look at it when he had a chance. I again left the car. On 6/17/15 at approximately 3:45 PM I stopped by Ed's Garage. Bradley Smith told me he couldn't fix the transmission problem. I told him that I wanted my money back for the portion that I had paid Ed's garage to fix the transmission. Bradley Smith refused, stating that he would be out of business if he started doing that because he had spent a lot of time trying to fix the transmission. I replied that it's his responsibility to be aware of his capabilities and if fixing this transmission is beyond his level of expertise, then he should have said so, rather than agreeing to fix it and then charging me even though he couldn't fix it. I further stated that I only wanted the money back that I paid for repairing the transmission, which he failed to fix and now states he can't fix. He still refused. I replied that if he charges for and then refuses to refund money for repairs he didn't and/or can't perform, then he SHOULD be out of business. He still refused. Of the total $1683.90 Ed's Auto charged me for repairs, $1160.16 was charged for fixing the transmission, which was not done. Ed's Garage may be good for fixing other things, but not Cadillac transmissions.
Description of Work: Ed's Garage tried and failed to fix the automatic transmission on my 2004 Cadillac, but still charged me for fixing the transmission and refused to give me a refund for repairs that were not made. Ed's also replaced a front wheel bearing and a section of brake line, but with no problems.
