Communication was easy. The work was done well, and the workers were thoughtful and experienced. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Remove existing columns in front of house Install (2) Pressure treated 2x4 posts (to make posts approx 4x4) = total of 5 posts Wrap posts with Azek - screwed and plugged Mount columns with galvanized base on existing footings Add 1x6 composite base and cap Dispose of waste
We were very happy with HPM Craftsmen. They came in with the best price, did the work in a professional manner and did a very nice job overall. The project took a little more time than we all thought, but most of the delay was due to the City of Peekskill.
Description of Work: We had a Dental Office COOP in Peekskill converted back into a one bedroom apartment.

HPM did an amazing job. This is the 5th job they have done for us. My husband and I were so pleased with the results. The quality of the craftsmanship was excellent. When they left for the day you couldn’t even tell they had been there. They put up plastics so dust wouldn’t spread throughout the house. They were punctual, polite and kept me informed of what was happening. The first job they did was 7 years ago and I would use them again and again.

The whole process of working with George APAP painting and their construction has been a complete pleasure. From the time they came on site to understand my needs, by talking through the details of what was looking to be accomplished – to the end job, was a complete dream. They had completed the job on time. They had arrived to my house on time.. The men were extremely polite. I highly recommend both George APAP painting and construction for either large or small jobs at your house. Their prices were extraordinarily competitive but the mannerisms and attitude of the work staff is commendable. One area I had a concern – they address the concern and resolves the issue completely.

They are good. I think they are a little high on price but people usually want to pay for their brand that they consult with. The quality of the service is very good. They are very professional and they have a very sophisticated business, so automated billing and e-signature. They have a really good professional infrastructure in their office and I guess it's why you pay a little more.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We appreciate it. Thank you for the continued business! We enjoy working for you.
A lot of work cited went pretty smoothly except for a few things. One of their crew, Craig, wet mopped my newly refinished hardwood floors! This is a major no-no that any experienced contractor should know. Also, my backdoor installation had several mistakes: 1) there was big chip on the door frame edge 2) 5 missing screws from the hinge plate 3) the lock plate was installed improperly so it couldn't close unless I pushed the door frame inward. If anything was wrong or missing, a person would have alerted the homeowner of the problem versus being silent so I think their crew member was lazy and hoping nothing would be noticed. Also, I was supposed to have them install the storm doors but when I asked one of his crew, Cesar, how long it would take him, to install, he told me he had only installed one and it took 5 hrs! I told Nicole, HPM's project coordinator, that I would have another carpenter do it since they've installed hundreds and indeed it took him 1.5 hrs and charged $150 per storm door. HPM's charge could have been ~$300+ per door. HPM Carpentry and George Apap Painting's prices are reasonable but I don't think all of their crew are highly skilled so their work can be a mixed bag. Owner, George seems like an honest, ethical person but he didn't like it when I asked him about his carpenters' expertise in doing some backyard carpentry work (eg., installing a 16' wood post with bat houses). As I told George, I don't think I should pay for someone's on-the-job training. I'm paying for someone's experience, skills and expertise to do something correctly in a professional and timely manner. When I contacted him again a couple of months later about re-tiling work for my bathroom, which the original carpenter messed up, and about painting my basement boiler room, he told me I should go with a local carpenter/painter instead which I did. I think it's reasonable for any homeowner to question a contractor on their expertise but it's George's company so he can pick and choose customers and vice versa. I'm okay with it but since he's a homeowner, does he not question various contractors before hiring them? Does he want a contractor who has performed a task many times vs a few? Or as a business owner, does he not ask questions before he hires a potential carpenter or painter to verify their skill level? Does he pay the same rate for an inexperienced or experienced person? Had I questioned my original bathroom contractor about their glass tile installation expertise for my bathroom renovation, I probably wouldn't have gone with him but he probably would have lied anyway. In fact, the Westchester Consumer Protection Agency hit him with multiple violations, fined him and he decided to turn in his license.
Description of Work: Installed curtain rods, painted baseboards and closet doors, prepped fireplace for granite overlay, prepped closets for new California Closet system, installed front and backdoors, installed new locks, installed stone floor saddles.

[Member name removed], Your review would be easier to understand if you only reviewed one contractor at a time. We lived up to our contract with you and satisfied all of your concerns, the other contractor did not. Reviewing each contractor separately would be more appropriate. Yes, I was less than forthcoming when I suggested that you find a contractor more local. I felt that was better than telling you that the true reason that I wanted you to find another contractor, among other things, is that your email banter with my office was inappropriate. In hind sight it would have been more accurate to handle the issue head on. We always live up to our promises and are available to repair any deficiencies in our work.

After 16 years our kitchen cabinets were showing their age and wear. We desperately needed to have them refinished. George Apap met with us and discussed our options. He recommended that we have our cabinets painted. George assigned Arek, one of his Advanced Crew Leaders, to our project. Arek met with us before the project began to discuss the process and to answer any questions and concerns that we might have. Arek then gave us the schedule and an estimated completion time. In addition, He gave us his business card with his contact information to use at any time when necessary. Arek and his crew members, Scott and Voytek, were courteous and professional and showed great respect for our home. The work was successfully completed on time as estimated. We are EXTREMELY happy with the end results! And will highly recommend George Apap Inc. and Arek and his fine crew to our family, friends and neighbors. Looking forward to showing off our newly updated and absolutely beautiful kitchen, at our upcoming family affair. Extremely Satisfied! Dana R.

Brian was very professional but the estimates were a little high so I went with another quality contractor.
Description of Work: Brian gave me estimates for several home renovation projects.
I was very pleased with the level of professionalism of the George APAP team. From Brian who came to assess the work to Donovan who actually performed the fixes, including Carol who organized the schedules, the common theme was very profesional individuals, pleasant to deal with, very focused in helping you achieved the desired results and knowledgeable about what they do. My job was a small one but they treated it with the same diligence as a larger one. I would highly recommend George APAP Painting and Carpentry and will use them again with no hesitation when the need arrives. Thanks to all for a great job! Anneliese

After a fair amount of research I selected three local providers to submit bids for the complete project. APAP wasn't the cheapest but they were in the "ballpark" and considering their ability to meet my schedule I selected them for the job. Everything about the job was customized to meet our aesthetic desires for the house; Crawford ceiling, wainscoting, mudroom bench and seven separate paint color choices. The interior now has the desired country motif. From start to finish the project was completed within the agreed upon schedule. Like most project's we threw in a couple changes towards the end and APAP accommodated those changes in stride with minimal cost increase. No provider is ever a 100% perfect and there were just a few little "nits" we found with the painting. As soon as we brought these issues to APAP's attention, they responded immediately to rectify the discrepancies. I can't commend the entire team by name but Brian, Arek and Bob ran a proficient and professional team.
Description of Work: APAP installed custom wood trim (wainscoting, Faux Beams & Crawford Ceiling) in four of our rooms and hallways. Additionally, all interior rooms were painted.
From the very beginning, they were friendly, prompt, and courteous. Joe Ward was our initial contact, and he was incredibly helpful. Kevin was the on-site team manager, and he did a fantastic job of making sure I was satisfied every step of the way. They worked conscientiously and were very mindful of our needs. They were quick and polite, they cleaned up well, they didn't take extended breaks, and they completely transformed my home. Their work was excellent, and I was comfortable having them in my home. I would definitely recommend George Apap Painters.

I wanted a quote for a double-hung window replacement and a patio door replacement. Someone came on 9/6/13 to look at what i needed replaced and took measurements. Two weeks had passed and I still hadn't heard back from HPM regarding a quote so I called the office. I was told they were still waiting on estimates from the window manufacturer. By the end of the 3rd week, I sill had not heard back from HPM so I decided to go with another company (who provided me a quote the same day they came and measured).

Dear [member name removed] I am so sorry that you did not have a better experience with our company. We strive for perfection but we are not perfect. We try to do a great job at a reasonable price. In our attempt for this, we often price out windows and doors at multiple vendors and sometimes this leads to delays. We should have done a better job at communicating with you and we do want to apologize for this. We hope you had a great experience with your vendor and are enjoying your new windows.

Though the scope of this job pushed the envelope beyond Apap's usual line of painting and light renovation work, I hired them because of George Apap's unusual clarity, honestly, transparency, and responsiveness in estimating the job, and because of the evident intelligence, energy and flexibility of his foreman, Brian Mack. In this I was not disappointed. What started as a mold abatement project expanded as we realized that the 1960 addition to the house had no vapor barrier, and that there were substantial drainage problems with the site. As we explored solutions, George was helpful both in his proposing and evaluating ideas, but also forthright in stating the limits of his knowledge and experience. As I took on the role of amateur architect, researching how to retrofit vapor barriers into existing structures, including 19th century dry-stack foundations, how and where to use spray foam insulation, how to install wide board flooring over radiant heat, and developing specifications for all the windows, doors, and plumbing fixtures, George and Brain were both continually helpful in working out solutions, and reasonable, detailed, and clear in revising estimates for what turned into an extended and constantly evolving job. They were always easy to communicate with, and extremely profession in showing up when they said they would, getting the right workers on the job at the right time, and in keeping the job site clean, well-sealed and orderly. And when it came to Apap's core expertise, the painting and finishing at the end, everything fell into place with remarkable speed and ease, and the finishes were all of the highest standard. My one reservation was with subcontractor relationships, where Apap was not in as firm control as I would have liked, given the 20% markup they were charging, and so there were a number of minor failures in communicating directions and specifications, and problems in managing estimates and controlling costs. But given my possible over-involvement as do-it-yourself architect, and the inherent challenges of an evolving design/build project, as opposed to working from a complete and final set of plans from the start, some muddling of the lines of responsibility and accountability was perhaps inevitable. With a proper architect on the job this would likely not have been a problem. What was remarkable about Apap, however, was precisely their flexibility and adaptability in such a situation, all the while maintaining good spirits, trust and confidence. It was truly a pleasure working with them. I would not hesitate to recommend Apap, not just for the superb and efficient painting and light repairs and renovation, but also for more complicated projects in older buildings requiring creativity and intelligent problem solving. I look forward to working with them again on future projects.
Description of Work: Interior demolition and reconstruction of ground floor of 1960s addition to 1820s farm house. Installation of vapor barrier and pouring new slab in addition area as well under rest of house. Replacement of water damaged foundation. Installation of steel hidden beams with support columns and footings. New joists and floor throughout addition area, with radiant heat, and installation of wide board flooring. New partition walls, windows, interior doors. Building new bathroom including custom cut tile and raised tub platform. New electrical and plumbing throughout addition area. The company representative arrived on time, measured the windows, but could not provide a prompt estimate because they turned out to be unusually large. He kept me informed about the delays. After we signed the contract, the job started on the scheduled day. The workers took special care to protect the floors, as I warned them they were made of soft pine. They showed me the rotten wood that needed to be replaced, and documented it with photos. My emails were promptly answered, my phone calls were promptly returned - the communication was excellent. All my concerns and requests to correct some issues were addressed in a reasonable time, and in a professional manner.

When I decided to do this project I searched for local painters. I had six companies each come to my house and discuss the job. Of the six I eliminated three. After discussion with the other three painting companies I decided to hire George ApAp. One because he had very good comments on Angie's list. Two he was very thorough discussing the house needs.Three the price was in my budget range and he worked with me to get the most done within my budget. His foremans were both very competent and friendly. The only disappointment was the power washing process. The worker missed an entire section of the house and the outside of the windows were not covered. The windows were all streaked from the water spray. The painters washed the outside of my windows at the end of the project. worker

It went very well. The workers were prompt, easy to talk to and deal with and kept us informed. The supervisor was responsive to our calls and kept us updated. Additional work was necessary which was not a surprise. Also, some finishing work was done to improve the overall appearance. The workers cleaned up at the end of each day and when the project was completed. Very pleased and no complaints.
