The owner of ABS Foundation Repair Service was very good to deal with. We had standing water after heavy rain, so the drains weren't working properly. They put in three new drains and sealed off the bilco door that leads to the basement. We wanted an extended service which was the first part of the work. I think the workers under the owner were somewhat inexperienced and he had to come and check on what had been done. That first part of the work, some of it wasn't done properly so the owner had to come and remedy some of the things that weren't quite right. So that was the second stage of work. Then there was a third step to complete what we wanted done. I would tell other Angie's List members that the Owner was very good to deal with and he guaranteed the work. It would be helpful to Members to ask how experienced the members of the work crew are. The Owner was great.

I had previously used ABS Foundation Services to install foundation anchors to prevent a bowing foundation wall and thought they did an excellent job. In this case, I had a clogged perimeter drain due to iron eating bacteria (it's a thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_bacteria). basically, the bacteria had filled the drain with silt and water was backing up onto my basement floor. When I called in, I talked with Art Stroyer at ABS about my problem. He asked me a series of questions about the problem to zero in on the root cause. I really appreciated this approach; Art didn't have an agenda, he wanted to understand the problem. After he determined that an on-site visit was in order, we scheduled for later that week. Art came to my house and investigated the plugged drain in the basement. He spent time looking over the entire problem area and helped me understand what was going on. We discussed my options and I decided to have the existing drain jackhammered out and replaced with a new system. Art presented a couple of options for the drain and helped me understand the pros and cons of each. I want to stress that Art didn't try to sell me anything; he told me what kinds of things he could provide and I made the decision as to which choice to select. He offered improvements to my existing sump pump system (including a battery backup), but I declined. As a result of this discussion, I also decided to have two basement windows removed and blocked in and two other windows replaced with glass block. ABS also regraded the soil outside my house (including under my deck) to help direct water away from the house. ABS Foundation Services managed the window installation which was provided through a 3rd party contractor. We scheduled the job for a few weeks later. It was estimated to take two days. There was a slight hiccup when the formal quote email didn't make it through the first time. I called in and they sent it again. No worries there, but I would have preferred a little less passive sales job at that point: a more motivated seller would have probably been checking in with me more often to get the sale. On the day of the job, I went in to work late so I could meet the guys and show them to the area. They arrived around 9AM and were personable and young. They unpacked their gear and got started. I left for work and returned around noon to check the progress. The 3rd party contractor had been there and left by that time. The new glass block windows (with locking vent opening) looked great. The ABS guys were in the process of removing the other two windows to be blocked up. Since there were iron security bars embedded in the cinder blocks, it turned out to be a slow process. By the end of the day, one window was removed and blocked in with new cinder block and the drain was jackhammered out. The next day passed in a very similar fashion. They showed up early and worked on the job all day. I checked in throughout the day and saw no signs of laziness. By the end of the day, the last window was blocked in, the concrete was drying and the regrading of the soil was complete. While they swept up a lot in the basement (using my broom, I didn't like that) there was still a fair bit of dirt left on the floor. Not a big deal and I wouldn't have expected them to literally mop my dirty basement floor. It is now months later and the drain is functioning perfectly. No sign of iron eating bacteria, no water backing up (the sump pump still works flawlessly) and no issues with the blocked up windows or the glass block windows. The regrading seems fine, but I may have waited too late to seed. We'll see more in the spring. Overall, I would give the entire experience an A. The process was smooth, the result was as expected and the cost was reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend ABS Foundation Services to anyone in the future.

I wasn't interested in finishing the walls of my basement mentioned in the quote -- thin, firm vinyl walls, DOW board, nor a dehumidifier at $1,800. I just needed the concrete walls free of mold and painted.

The first job was done very promptly and professionally, and seemed to correct the problem of the wall bowing inward. When the same problem developed again several years later to other parts of the same wall, and the adjacent basement wall, the warranty was accepted without question as covering the part of the wall previously treated, and similar work was performed on the other parts of the wall, again done promptly and professionally. All exterior work was done with a minimum of mess and a thorough cleanup. Later still, when the sinking basment problem developed, the recommended treatment (excavation and jacking up the 2 sides of the basement wall which had started to sink) was thoroughtly explained, and the work was again done promptly and professionally. I was impressed and satisfied with the work each time it was done, and given warranties which will be good for the life of the structure. The company has a long-standing good reputation and I trust their guarantees. There are still some issues (e.g. a new leak in a different location), and I will have them back again to look at it. Each time I have called them, a knowledgeable representative comes out first, thoroughly examines and explains the situation and his recommendation. If and when I agree, they obtain all the permits and set a date for the job. Each time, they have appeared promptly and done all the proposed work very quickly and professionally, in one day in most cases, and two days in one case, complete with cleanup.

So far the results are good, and the moisture problem seems solved. Our only issue was the ABS installers ran black rubber membrane about 6" above the foundation right on top of existing white siding. It looked awful, and would have been trouble during future siding replacement. To ABS' credit, they responded promptly and made a return trip to cut off the overlap. I still wonder why any installer would be that careless, and leave a job in that condition. So overall it was mixed results with ABS.

The ABS team arrived on time every day and they were all very courteous and helpful. They took the time to answer all of my questions and explain exactly what they were doing every step of the way. They took care not to unnecessarily damage my landscaping and did a great clean-up. On top of all that, they finished the job before the given completion date. I would highly recommend this company and I would use them again in the future should the need arise. They're the kind of people you're comfortable having in and around your home when you have a problem. They also offer a life-of-structure warranty which is outstanding.

Wonderful- prompt, responsive, tidy and on budget. We would use them again.

Overall an excellent job and successful at drying out the basement preventing seepage onto the slab.

Overall this went well. They responded promptly when I requested an estimate and were able to answer all my questions. I had a little difficulty with communications as the start date drew near. I had been told that ABS would arrange for an electrician to install necesary outlets for the sump pump and dehumidifier, but had heard nothing from them. I called and also emailed ABS in the two weeks prior to the start date and no one was getting back to me. I was getting a little nervous but a second phone call did the trick and everything was arranged in time. Three workers showed up promptly on the start date. They were curtious and considerate of my house and property. My basement is dray as a bone. The only reason I did not give all A's was, in addition to the communication issue, there was some minor lack of attention to detail. Not quite all of the floor defects got repaired, a crack in the wall that I was told would be patched was not patched, and there was quite a bit of concrete dust left for me to clean up. Still, over all a good experience and I would use them again.

I was not satisfied with ABS Foundation Services finished work. The cement work did not turn out like I expected. They also did not clean up after themselves very good. I had gotten a few estimates and theirs was reasonable. They didn't show up on time.

ABS Foundation Services were recommended by our condo association and they did a great job. We have no complaints. They came out promptly.

I didn't have any complaints with ABS Foundation. It was expensive, but not more than it should have been. They were very professional, got here on time, did great work, and the price they estimated in the beginning was what we paid. I would recommend their services.

Overall they did a good job. The basement floor is fixed to my satisfaction. The cost was a bit costly but probably worth the work that they did. I would recommended them to others.
