It was awful and he has still not rectified the problems which stem from last year's installation. The fire pit began to fall apart as soon as it was installed, bricks cracked, cement cracked. He came back a couple of times, installed new bricks and cement and the issues kept re-occuring. I suggested to him that there may be too much water in the cement or they may not be fire bricks, but he insisted that everything was top quality. This spring the fire pit and parts of the patio were completely falling apart. The bricks from the edge of the nation were no longer scoured. Cement had fallen out all around the outside of the fire pit and more than half the bricks on the top of the fire pit were broken or cracked. The cement between these bricks was also cracked and dislodged from the bricks. The bricks inside the fire pit had also lost the cement between them. The out itself was filled with cement mixed with dirt. The polymeric sand which was installed between the patio pavers, which I was told would last a couple of years by Mr. McCluskey, had virtually disappeared. Some of the patio stones had sunk below dirt level so mud was constantly flowing onto the patio when it rained. I contacted Mr. McCluskey in April about the problems. He said he would stop by and look at it. He never did, about 2-3 weeks later I reminded him. He didn't have time yet. In early May I told him I would be having a Memorial Day party and would like the problems corrected by then. I received no reply. After 2 months had passed, I called and got Mr. McCluskey on the phone. He stated the fire pit had been fixed several times and the issue was my problem because I had wanted the fire pit above the patio instead of flat with the patio, as he had told me he usually did. At no point, however, did he tell me he was incapable of installing a fire pit above the level of the patio. Hd said he had used above grade materials but would come over to look at it or send his employees. He could not give me any time frame or commit to calling before they came. The next morning his employee showed up with no advance notice. I showed him the problems -- broken bricks, missing cement, a crack in the foundation, lack of any polymeric sand. He said Mr. McCluskey had only given him 3 new bricks to fix the problem. I asked him why this kept occurring and he said maybe Mr.McCluskey had not given him the correct bricks. I got Mr. McCluskey on the phone and his employee explained that the repairs needed were more extensive and could not be fixed by 3 bricks. I assume Mr. McCluskey told him to repair with the existing broken bricks because that is what he did. I also asked the employee not to cement it that day because it was supposed to rain, but he said, no, it was supposed to rain the next day and went ahead cementing broken bricks around the fire pit. It literally poured that afternoon. He literally slopped cement on the inside of the pit and left the remaining cement in the fire pit. He then left without telling me. I sent and email to Mr. McCluskey explaining what had happened and have received no reply to date, several weeks later.
