+ -1 moreSlomins sent me an experienced tech, who took his time and sorted through the mess and restarted my system. He was a nice fellow who spent a lot of time running up and down several floors, testing, the various zones, and connections. He then spent time teaching us what to do, and that wasnt easy, as I have my older parents with me who are technology phobic and were somewhat nervous about having to use an alarm system for the first time.
Description of Work: I had just purchased a new home and found I had been left with what was essentially a jumble of spaghetti in the wiring of the old alarm system (the former alarm company had left it that way; as if they had just ripped it off the wall). I first went to Slomins larger competitor; they sent in a tech who took a look at the mess, and left, saying he would have to come back when he could devote the day; that it was too big a job, too many zones, and that he didnt have the right truck, or something like that to get the job done. Personally, I think the tech didnt want to spend the time sorting through the wiring. He promised hed have someone call and reschedule, but they never did, so I never called them. I had taken the day off to be there, and they had already wasted my time once. I then called Slomins; the representative came in, took a look at what needed doing.

+ -1 moreSlomins is not cheap but Ive found you have to pay top dollar to avoid aggravation. You get what you pay for. Ive used them for 14 years. They never ask me anything and I never ask them anything. I pay them monthly. They are expensive but reliable.
Description of Work: They inspected my oil furnace. He checked the pilot light, tank and up the chimney. He made sure there were no leaks.

+ -1 moreSlomins offers you a deal with the installation if you use them to monitor your system. We liked the special they had going at the time, so that is why we signed up with them. We have set off our alarm by accident one time since then and they called us pretty much immediately. I would say that as a result of that service encounter we had by accident with them, I would have to give them only the highest of marks.
Description of Work: Slomins put in the alarm system in our 1800 square foot house about seven months ago. Since that time, they have been monitoring the system and we pay them every three months for their service.

+ -1 moreSlomins has been good so far. I am a fairly new customer with them because I recently moved, but I have no complaints at this point in time. I have set off my alarm accidentally once already and they called immediately to make sure I was okay. They seem to be really nice and I feel better having them as opposed to not having them.

I once accidentally pressed the panic button and when I arrived at home the police and my friend, the one they reach when I dont answer, were there checking what was going on. So I know Im protected if something happens. I pay every three months.
Description of Work: They are the company that once installed the system and now they monitor it too. I have sensors all over my house. If the alarm goes off they call me and I should give them the password if Im okay. If I dont answer they call the person I chose and the same thing happens. If someone doesnt know the code they call the police.

+ -1 moreI have never had a problem with this company since they day they installed the new system, which covers my 3000 square foot home. The customer service department is always available and the actual system never failed a day since I have had it. I will not hesitate to refer anyone to use them, and will continue to do so. I don t remember what the price was that they gave me per quarter, but I don t care, my safety is worth it.
Description of Work: They monitor my entire home including a keypad and battery back up, motion detectors and wired all my windows and doors. They gave me a quarterly service contract.

+ -1 moreWe went with this company because we felt they were the least expensive and the representation locally was important. We didn t like the idea of a company across the country working in conjunction with our local Police department in case something went wrong and have been satisfied with the situation ever since. We also loved the fact that the customer service department at Slomins doesnt mind following up after we have called them. One time they faxed my husband information he requested right after he called. Another really nice advantage was that we had a ringer installed that tells us when a door is open in the house. This helps a great deal with our small children, as it keeps tabs on any wandering they might attempt.
Description of Work: This company installed the entire alarm system in our 2500 square foot home. They gave us a key pad and wired all the rooms including the windows, front and back doors, and the garage. They also installed smoke detectors throughout the entire home. There was no charge for the installation of the entire system and the fee for monitoring is 320 dollars paid in 4 installments of 80 dollars during the year.

+ -1 moreGoing with Slomins did save me money because they do the installation for free. However, I scarified having a more personalized alarm service company. I find that compared to who I used to be with, if something is wrong with my system, they are not nearly as responsive. They may show up a few days later or whatever. In general, they are OK, but I sacrificed some things to save myself money with their little special installation package.
Description of Work: Slomins recently put a whole new alarm system in my house free of charge. I am now locked into a three year contract with them where I pay like thirty bucks a month for them to monitor the system.

+ -1 moreI hate these companies that make you sign contracts with them. If I wanted to break my contract with Slomins, I had to paid $250. I did it, but I was not happy about it. I wouldnt use them again because they have you by the you know what if you sign a contract with them and because I get sick of having to pay the monthly fee.

+ -1 moreI am now looking for another oil and alarm provider to eliminate Slomins altogether from receiving any money from me going forward. P.S. - I should have know better two years ago when I received an oil delivery a day after my contract expired at a price that was over $1 more than my contract. What timing on the delivery.
Description of Work: I originally signed up for Slomins "Cool Pack 2" air conditioning service back in June. When I called for a service call late in the month, they said they never received the paperwork. I again submitted at the beginning of July and made my $500+ payment. When I called for a service call this week, I was told that it will not be under contract but they could come out and service it a full price. When I informed them I already paid at the beginning of the month, they told me that my service check wasnt scheduled until August 13th. After everything checked out okay, then my contract would go into effect. What a scam!!! P.S. - I obviously cancelated the contract. Morale of the story: if there is nothing wrong with your AC and you dont need service, then the Slomins "Cool Pack" service contract is for you.

+ -1 moreFlooded basement caused hot water heater to go off. I tried to ignite, but was unsuccessful. I feared flood water rose high enough to affect unit. A plumber from Slomins came and re-ignited heater on his first try. It took one minute. All was good; except that I had to pay $124.92 in advance while making appointment, by credit card. No exceptions. A tough policy for a consumer.

We like the prices we pay and we like the help they are always willing to give. We also feel we are charged a fair price for the services they provide to us each month. We would recommend this company to those seeking a well known company that has been around to provide them with satisfactory alarm service monitoring on a monthly basis.
Description of Work: Slomans monitors our alarm service for us on a monthly basis. We live in a house that is more than 1500 square feet I would say. They do come when called and are responsive but they don't seem to be able to handle our problem and have had to come back several times. The men are very courteous but I don't think the quality of work is the best.
