My refrigerator wasn't holding the right temperature. I had Alex from American Service, and he did a great job identifying and correcting the issue. He has been my service technician for a couple of years now and he has always done a great job correcting any problems I had with my appliances. Once again, I was extremely happy with the service I received!!

Be careful with American Service out on Long Island folks. A $630 estimate for a fridge repair has turned into a $750 charge for a $100-$200 part. They will refuse to provide you with an itemized bill and customer service was, in my experience impressively rude. Technicians were nice enough but $500 plus service call, we totally got ripped off.

Terrible. Repairing a Broan range hood Lights were not working blower worked fine. they said it was a switch without checking anything. I was told the repair would be $600. I called Broan and the switch assembly was only $130 but decided to go ahead anyway since I had been charged the service call amount. They came to repair and it was not the switch and in the process fried the relay board so that now neither the lights nor the blower fan worked. I was told the relay board was no longer made. So I am left with nothing. No offer to credit me for their service call. I am left worse off than before they came.i was told that I now had to replace the entire range hood. The replacement with the same CFM rating is over $2600 + installation. I will never use them for anything!

Charlie at American Service was recommended so I made an appointment and he came the next day. Replaced two thermostats which wasn't cheap but since Sub-Zero doesn't appear to sell parts to customers, I didn't have much choice. While the replacement helped the situation it didn't solve it, so Charlie paid us a second service visit and found the other part of the problem, fixed it and didn't charge a cent for the service or the part ( a door switch). In all instances I found my interactions with Charlie and the phone reps at American Service to be polite and professional and we will call them again when we need another appliance repair (may it be many years from now!).
Description of Work: Our Sub-Zero refrigerator was reporting an 06 error code, which I guess indicates an erratic temperature reading.

Excellent Service!! I have saved their number to my cell contact list! My French Door Viking refrigerator needed a replacement part for the piece that seals the space between the two doors and that part was no longer under warranty. My very strong sons have pulled the left side first too many times, and damaged the piece. I called Viking to ask for the names of the factory trained dealers in my area. I called all three before I scheduled a repair visit. All three were quickly responsive to my calls, and all three charged the same price for a service call. I selected American Service Company because they were closest to my home. I also needed to have the handle of my GE monogram wall oven tightened. Their telephone representatives were well trained, responsive to my questions, and quite professional. I spoke with Joan, Amy and their call service in the evening prior to my visit to confirm I would be available. Charlie arrived diagnosed the issue, said the part needed to be ordered. He would return to install as soon as it arrived. He also tightened the handle on the wall oven for no charge, as a courtesy for a new customer. Two days later the piece had arrived, and Charlie returned to quickly install it. For each service call, the service agents provided a window when the service would occur. Charlie called 15 minutes before he arrived. He was a very personable, well trained service professional. The telephone agents mentioned to visit their website at www.americanservice1.com to get a $20 coupon- every little bit helps! |I highly recommend this service company. |

I called American Service and explained that my oven was indicating that it was preheated to the correct temperature when it was not. They sent out the requested repairman who told me it would cost approximately $1000 to replace two parts but when fixed my Viking oven would work fine for years to come. I agreed to this outrageous price believing I had no choice. This was a few months ago now. After the repairman left I contacted Viking and another repair company both of whom said the repair should have cost about half as much. When I next used the oven the original problem persisted. Viking told me that when the preset light went off the temp should be correct. This was not the case. I called American Service and complained about the cost and the service and requested a price reduction. About a week later I received a letter stating they would not alter their price and listing their expenses. A second appointment did not resolve my complaint and was told that the oven worked as it should. Viking said it did not. So yes, they come quickly and are punctual and pleasant, but what exactly did my $992+ pay for?

Ms. [Member’s name removed] main complaint is that the repair seemed rather expensive and the unit wasn’t fixed. That is misleading. The oven was repaired properly on 12/30/14. After the initial diagnosis and evaluation, an estimate was given and signed by the customer. After the repair by a senior factory authorized Viking technician, the oven is now heating and the problem was resolved with the customer present. We are factory authorized on Viking appliances, which means there is constant updating of techniques. We are up to date on the latest service bulletins and technical bulletins and have priority access to Viking technical department. The customer contacted us the week following the repair, not to complain about the oven but about the pricing. We explained the technician actually diagnosed 2 different repairs. The first repair on 12/30/14 was for a failed control module and the second repair was for a failed bake igniter. If I break it down, the control module repair was $539 and the main bake igniter was $290. There is also a trip charge of $85. When you include tax on everything, the pricing does come to over $900. We had already applied a $50 promotion. Our pricing always includes parts and labor so our customer know exactly how much the repair will be before making a decision. The customer always has the option of just paying for the trip charge and delaying making a decision. It wasn’t until days after the repair was completed that she actually called the credit card company and challenged the charges. That issue was resolved in our favor since we had a signed invoice where she accepted the cost of the repairs. The next call from the customer was that the oven was heating but shutting down. We have a guarantee on our work and a senior Viking tech returned, ran several operating tests with a digital electronic temp sensor with client present. He found the temperatures read correctly throughout. Even Ms. [ Member name removed] commented to our tech the ‘You’re right. I can’t argue temperature is correct’. He explained that the update spark module that was repaired will cycle more often due to an updated DSI module that was installed. These updated module are designed to work more efficiently by cycling the oven more often. We assume the oven is still working correctly because the client has not called us again. American Service has been factory authorized Viking Servicer on Long Island for 28 years. Our factory trained technician know the Viking products extensively as well as many other major brand. Since 1946 American Service stand by all the work that is performed.

After being shocked by the price I called LG customer service and was given the names of 2 authorized repair centers. I found out that Pennies what not an authorized center even though they list LG on their web site. The Water valve cost $25 and the repair took less than half an hour to complete. My total cost from the honest repair service was $110! LESS THAN 1/3 THE PRICE PENNIES AMERICAN SERVICE WANTED TO CHARGE ME! The job was done perfectly. Lesson Learned! If your gut tells you you are getting ripped off you probably are. There are people who will take advantage if you do not pay attention. I know I will never get my $93 back but it was a valuable lesson . I also should have read the Angies List review prior to calling. There were some warnings. I just did not realize I would not be dealing with the former B and B Appliance repair.
Description of Work: Our LG washing machine started leaking from the bottom. The technician opened the machine and quickly determined that the leak was coming from the water valve on top. He closed up the machine and told us they would need to order the part. They charged $93 for a 20 minute service call. To return and replace the valve would cost us $349 plus tax!!!! (less the $93 which would be applied to the cost.)This seemed outrageous, the machine cost $800 new at Best Buy 4 years ago. I suspected this was a rip off company and decided to seek alternatives. We had been a customer of B and B service for 20 years and Pennies American Service took over their customer list a few years ago. B and B was always honest and Fairly priced. The new firm is the exact opposite. I would recommend you STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

My dryer was in need of repair due to not heating up. The repairman, Charlie, called fifteen minutes before he came. He was prompt, friendly, and explained the situation in clear details. The dryer was in need of thermostats which he was able to replace in less than 15 minutes. He also cleaned out the repair area of all the lint that had built up over the years and checked the belt and other parts. , He also answered a question about another appliance in need of repair and did not make me feel like it was out of line to ask. Overall, a satisfying and professional experience. Note: I gave the "price" category a "B" because I have nothing to compare it to. American Service-Pennies was my only call due to their reputation and past experience. I did not hesitate to have the repair done if this is what it would take to get the dryer back to a much newer condition.

I called American Service Company on August 8th because my dryer was not heating. I could not believe how quickly I received an appointment. I was promptly scheduled for August 9th between the hours of 12:00noon and 3:00pm. On the day of service, I received a courtesy call Frank T was on the way. Frank arrived at 1:00pm and diagnosed the problem a bad igniter. He was very professional, and was in and out of my home in about an one hour. I paid $250.48 which included the $85.00 diagnostic fee. This fee is cheaper than the manufacture $99.95. I also used a twenty-dollar coupon from website. Frank also left additional coupons for me on the dryer. I will be using this company again, and was very pleased with their service.

The technician came to look at my washing machine that was not draining water properly. He diagnosed the problem as bad drain pump and charged me $81.00 for the diagnosis. He then said to get a new drain pump will cost me $ 289.00. At that point I said I will get back to him. I got my co-worker who is also part time technician to look at my washer. My coworker said that there is nothing wrong with the pump and that the drain pipe attached to pump is clogged. He cleaned it and my washer worked as designed. Obviously upset with american express; I called them up and informed that their technician has totally misdiagnosed the trouble and asked for refund of diagnose fee. They flatly refused and said what he diagnosed was closed related to the actual trouble. This shows that they are not only unethical and unprofessional but also unqualified. This kind of attitude and nonchalance is simply unacceptable.

Professional response to phone call and setting appointment for gas dryer repair. Went very well - from scheduling the appointment to successful repair.
Description of Work: Pennies Appliance was able to diagnose and repair our dishwasher -- they were our last try before just throwing out a 2 year old dishwasher and starting over. The repairmen sent out as part of the extended warranty were unprofessional, rude and could not manage to figure out that the hose/valve that conducted the water to the dishwasher was clogged. Pennies did that quickly and replaced the part -- the dishwasher works better than ever.

Love that you could reach them so easily on a Sunday! And they were very professional on the phone and in person. They were always updating me as to when the tech. would be able to make it to the house as well as when the part came in to set up the next appt. When Frank told me late Wednesday that I would receive a check in the mail for the difference I received it by Saturday. They were trustworthy, reliable and professional.
Description of Work: I called on a Sunday. Joan called back after getting the answering service. She missed me. I called back the answering service. They reached her and she called back shortly after that. Told her my washer wasn't spinning. She made an appointment for Monday. The tech came, Frank, and he said we would have to order a new transmission, and quoted a price. He said he should be back by Wednesday. Wednesday came and when he went to install he told me it really didn't pay to do it because the rest of the machine was in bad shape (he went into detail as well as pointing it out with me --I will spare you). So even though they ordered the part and he came a second visit I was only charged for one visit. I originally paid $150.00 as a down payment and they sent a check for the difference by the end of the week!

My small (approximately nine cubic feet) basement freezer was developing a lot of ice inside, which I thought was due to the seal not being 100% closed. Given that the freezer costs about $300 new (it's about five years old), I didn't know if it was worth it to spend the money to fix it rather than to get it repaired. I called American Service (also known as Pennies) who told me that they could send someone to look at it the next day and that the estimate would be $65, which would be deducted from the cost of the repair. Fine. The man showed up bright and early the next day, and was polite and professional. HOWEVER, he informed me that while and estimate costs $65, the minimum charge for a REPAIR was $125. I definitely thought I should have been informed of that over the phone, especially when I told them that this was a small freezer. Anyway, he was there, and seemed to know what he was doing, so I chose to have the repair done rather than deal with the hassle of buying a new one.
