My husband ended up ordering the inducer motor online and replacing it himself, with instructions from a video he found online. It took him an hour and cost us a little over $200.
Description of Work: Our furnace stopped working on the night of 11/26. I called Ben Peer as they are the company I bought the furnace from in 2005, and I have them come out every year and tune it up. They sent someone out the next day. The person they sent out said it was the inducer motor and that it would cost $629 to replace it if we paid cash or check, $655 if we paid credit card. We chose not to have them do the service because the cost seemed out of the ballpark ($500 being more normal from what we researched on here and elsewhere on the internet).

I had, had my furnace cleaned lately, and implied that he had a special price available for that purpose, I agreed to have them do the job. He asked if I had any problems with the unit, and I told him it had been making lowed-er then normal noise lately. The repair man arrived on time as scheduled, and proceeded to check the unit. I was unaware that it had stopped working, as it is an auxiliary, unit for a extra large room. The repair man said he COULD NOT work on it, as it was not running. I would have expected them to send some one who could do repairs if necessary. He told me it would cost over $800.00 to repair the unit, and when I said I could not do it at the time, he proceeded to charge me for cleaning the furnace. He did absolutely nothing on the unit, but I was charged the full amount for the cleaning. I told him I would have expected a minimum charge for his time, but not the full amount for cleaning, when nothing was done but give me an estimate. I never got a return call from the company about my objection or to ask if I would like the repair done. I will never ever call this company again.
Description of Work: NO service was performed, only an estimate was given.
