PODS Moving & Storage

Description of Work: They delivered on time. My kids loved watching the guy maneuver the pod onto and off our property. The pod was clean and all of our belongings remained safe and secure on our property for the five months we had the pod.

Description of Work: Schedule, drop off, and pick up went smoothly. Price was the best option for the length of time and ease of use. Used to store 1/2 of first floor during renovation and construction. Worked out best to keep longer to finish painting, and molding work.

Description of Work: We rented a 16' container to pack and store our possessions. At the time of our move, we lived in NYC and told PODS immediately upon contact that the container would have to be parked on the street in front of our house. We asked about the city's restrictions on doing this and whether or not we would need a permit. We were told there were no restrictions and not to worry about having the container on the street. The day before scheduled delivery, we were told we would indeed require a permit and obtaining one would take additional time. Of course, we had scheduled the packing for shortly before our move and additional time would have thrown off our overall schedule. Instead we were told our only other option would be to hire a representative who would stay with the container for 7 hours and we would have to pack it within that time. This option came at a considerable cost, not to mention having to pay movers we also had to hire to help us pack in such a short window of time. This option, which we accepted under duress, completely negated the entire concept of PODS' business concept, which is that the consiumer may pack belongings over time. Despite this costly and hurried inconvenience, we proceeded with the move and had them take our possessions for storage. |Also, at the outset, we informed PODS that we were moving out of state. When the time came for them to deliver our container, we made an appointment and all seemed well. Then, again at the eleventh hour, we received a call telling us that the container was too heavy to be driven on interstate roads and we'd have to come to the warehouse to unpack some of it there before it could be moved. Our only other option would be to have them shift the contents of the large container into 2 smaller containers for shipment, again at considerable cost to us. What we eventually did was to hire a moving company to go to their warehouse to collect out possessions and deliver them to us at our new home. When the movers arrived, they photographed the container before touching it, so we could see the condition of our items. Dozens of boxes (made of hard plastic) were cracked and broken and the contents likewise. |To say this entire experience was a nightmare would be an understatement. It saved us no money whatsoever and, in fact, cost us considerably more than had we simply hired a mover to make the entire transaction for us. | |Moreover, though representatives were largely professional in their demeanor, we found that the consumer talks to entirely too many people and a sufficient number of them provide different and often incorrect information. |No, we would never use PODS again.
