The day after they replaced our skylights there was a big rain storm and our house flooded. The rain started pouring in around the skylights. My husband got containers, pots/pans, and trash cans to catch the water. He was bailing out water practically half the night. If we hadn't been home, our house would have been ruined. We called them back to tell them and they kept telling us to file an insurance claim. We didn't have an insurance claim because we were able to catch the water because we were home. Because there was massive staining, they said that they would pay for the taping, but not the painting. I didn't feel like that was anything. We paid thousands of dollars for the skylights and we had to pay thousands more dollars to fix the issue. He came back and looked at the job and then said that the roof was bad too. The roof was fine when they installed the skylights and we had plenty of rainstorms with the old skylights with no problem. It wasn't until the new skylights were installed that we had any issue. We went out and purchased big trashcans to hold all the water just in case. This home is our second home so we couldn't stay here because we needed to go back to our regular home, but we were afraid that it would rain again. He thought he was doing us a favor by bringing over some containers of his own, but they didn't really help. He then shouted at me to look at my contract because they don't do anything on the interior and he kept telling us that it's our insurance's problem and he just kept insisting that it was the roof and not the skylights. He then hung up on me. It wasn't the roof. We had no leaking issues before the new skylights were installed. It was really unpleasant to deal with him and I don't really think he should still be running his business. We need the skylights fixed, the the ceiling around the skylights needs to be taped and painted. There is paint chipping around the skylight because of all the moisture. We have a lot of damage here. We have a deductible; it's not enough to make an insurance claim, but it was his poor workmanship that caused the problem and he should have been the one to fix it. Don't hire Martin's Roofing. After replacing three skylights, which they said was absolutely necessary, rains came the next day and all the skylights leaked severely. There was no question that Martin's did poor work and was entirely responsible for flooding our house. I would never, ever ever use him again.

Richard Martin was extremely responsive. He came over the same day I called. Originally I just wanted to patch any weak spots where shingles had blown off in recent storms, and he gave me an incredibly reasonable quote of something like $200, which blew me away, but I knew the roof was going on 30 years old and another tough winter was approaching, so I asked for a price (7500) and a timeline (1-2 days) to replace the roof, and he said he had availability to do the work the following week and would bring in a team that would complete the job in 1 day, so I decided to replace the roof instead. The foreman and crew came the following week as scheduled and they did the entire job in 1 day--removed the old roof, installed a felt underlay and weatherproofing and zinc strips on the edges to prevent moss, and installed the new roof with the shingle product/color of my choosing. After all the snow we had this past winter, I'm very glad I had a brand new roof! Overall I was very happy with the service and the price. My house is one level and has high ceilings with a lot of pitch and more roof than most houses of similar size, and I had gotten estimates over the years that were higher than what I paid. In addition to the manufacturer's 30-yr warranty on materials, Martin's offers an additional 10-yr warranty on workmanship. So far, so good!
