SCHAFFER & SONS CONSTRUCTION

Work was performed on a single story home with 2 car detached garage. Needed replacement of vinyl siding and Shaffer & Sons is close by to us and we've seen his work around town so it seemed like a natural fit. While Joe was at the house to take a look we had him also take a look at the roof. He found that it probably had a few years left in it, but it didn't make sense to us to just do the siding so we got an estimate to replace the roof as well. Then we also had some windows that had moisture between the panes so we decided to get an estimate on replacing those. Since the roof was getting replaced it made sense to get the gutters done at the same time too. Funny how things add up like that. Overall the job went extremely well. The roof tearoff turned out to be a days more work than expected. When estimating Joe could tell there was more than one layer of shingle on our hip and valley style roof. There turned out to be three layers of shingles on top of a layer of wood shake shingles. His team of hard workers had to strip all that off! Even so he honored the price. None of the previous owners must have ever done a full tearoff! For the vinyl siding his team removed the existing siding then put on a thick insulation board to give a nice even working surface so that the finished look of the siding would be smooth. The insulation board should have given a little boost to the R value of the wall insulation as well. Joe replaced the exterior front light for us as well. As we were seeing things progress on the vinyl siding we could tell that the old doors on the house were just not going to look good. Joe worked up an additional quote to replace the existing doors. We just had to order them. Joe measured for us and told us what size to get. Our house was built in the 1930's so both doors were custom ordered from Home Depot. Joe picked them up for us and got them to fitted in the openings. The back door was a strange size and had to have some woodwork done to get it to fit properly, but Joe managed to get it to fit. Joe was always on site overseeing other workers and doing the work.

I liked everything. His service was excellent. His crew was excellent, they were on time, they had the job done in two days, and they were prepared. He just did an overall excellent job. The price was comparable, I don't think they were outrageous. It was excellent quality.

Custom ordered window was installed in our powder room. Joe's crew did a great job as usual. We had Schaffer and Sons replace all of our upstairs windows several years ago and had no doubts about having him do this job for us.

Realizing I could not wait any longer for a new roof, I had called the company for an estimate. The owner himself arrived at a time of my choosing and went through EVERYTHING with me. He answered all my questions at the time of giving the estimate. He also told me to call hm if I think of anymore. Getting ahead of myself for just one moment, he even got off the roof twice to settle me on a concern I had that he had explained to me eariler on. His name is Joe, and he is just "that type of guy" who would become troubled if he even thinks you have a concern. The quality of the job and the experience as a whole COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER. If you are going by Angie's List breakdown of ratings such as punctuality, he's the definition of it. On the first work day I woke to a mass of people ripping off three (yes 3) old roofs which he has a type of "chute" method of to dispose of the material directly in to a dump truck so NOTHING hits the house siding and you don't have that redicoulous blue monster metal container sitting in your driveway until the job is complete. That fact to me was very important to me in retrospect because everything that needed to be taken off was somewhere in the 9 ton range. He uses an exclusive brand of shingles that are of great quality and value. I wouldn't contact another company for this type of work if I needed it. I put his company in my personal phone book.

I was so impressed by their abilities that I have referred his business to my friends. The original estimate was the price I paid. The company even did a few extra jobs at no additional charge. Each day, they arrived on time.

Schaffer Construction was reasonably priced. They were very professional. They also came out right when they said they would and completed the job in the estimated amount of time. I would recommend Schaffer to friends and family.
