McAlister has done a great job for me. They did work on the furnace and A/C over the last 6 months when I was out of state. Beverly does a fantastic job in the office scheduling and communicating findings and costs and getting the job done quickly, especially in the winter with no heat. When we had to repair the A/C we were able to save $1,000 by pumping the refrigerant down into the condenser instead of evacuating it into a container and having the system recharged. Beverly explained the risks and potential benefits and the process worked as we had no leaks in the system. Jeff rebuilt a plate to sit in the coil housing to hold the coil - he then reran braised the lines and engaged the system. Total cost $560. On the furnace McAlister came out 3 times to check on the furnace shutting down - after the third call they determined that the secondary heat exchanger was cracked causing the unit to overheat and shut down. TJ was great - he said it was their fault for not identifying the cause sooner (one time they found ice and snow in the intake and thought that was the primary cause of the shut downs - a reasonable assumption) and discounted the work on the repair. He was also able to get the part under warranty so all I paid was labor. They also had to replace some insulation and that was back ordered so they came out twice to do the same job and didn’t charge me a visit fee on the second visit. While we waited for the heat exchanger to arrive TJ had Jeff go to the house and check to make sure the caulk they used on the unit as a stop gap measure was holding as I wasn’t home and didn’t charge me for that visit as well. Total cost $950. The staff is always available in the office, the techs are well trained, trustworthy (we had them in the house with no one home and gave them the garage code) and leave the area perfectly clean when they are done while doing great work. I gave them an A on price not because they are the cheapest - they truly do quote you a “fair” price for great work which is what you want. I will only use them for all my heating, cooling and plumbing needs.

That is the only company we deal with for heating. We have been using them for years.

Another local plumbing company recently installed a replacement hot water heater, but we noticed the first night that it was leaking. They came the next day and repaired the leak, but we noticed that the hot water level was very inconsistent throughout the house. Installer was back two more times, but couldn't, identify the problem. In frustration, we called McAllister, who recently did a great job installing a replacement furnace. The plumber from McAllister arrived right on time, was personable, and proceeded in an informed, methodical manner to identify and fix the problem (open valve on a recirculating loop). Problem fixed. Charges were reasonable. As with our furnace replacement, service from McAllister was outstanding. They are the only contractor we would consider calling in the future.

The various guys that were there were all great and very professional. We had the old cast drains inside the house removed and replaced with PVC; as well as all of the water lines replaced with pex. We had a sink that was draining into the basement (because the pipe was cracked) and a bathtub that wouldn't drain at all. We also had little to no water pressure from the lovely county replacing the water main and flushing it into the house. They went above and beyond my expectations, everything runs great and my water pressure is amazing now. They even fixed the leak I had before the water meter and hooked up my other hose connection. A few days later my 3 year old dropped something into the vent pipe outside that goes to the street. The man came within a few hours and snaked it for me. He was very nice and gave me a lot of pointers on what to do with my old house. Great Company!

The blockage was very deep...where the kitchen outflow met the main line. Chris not only cleared the blockage in a timely manner, he also explained its most probable cause, and offered suggestions as to how the situation could be avoided in the future. Once finished, he tested his work twice, once before and once after cleanup. I felt very secure that the job was done correctly once he left.

Chris was extremely polite and personable. Beverly at the office was very friendly on the phone when we were scheduling. They responded very quickly to my call and solved my problem very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised with the total cost. I expected it would be much more expensive.

Work men were professional, did a very good job.

My furnace motor was checked and furnace cleaned and inspected by McAllisters, the motor would kick out on high speed for the air conditioning cycle. I was not certain if this would affect the lower speeds for heating which it did not, but I wanted the furnace serviced before winter. They never did find anything wrong with the motor and neither did I. But after I replaced the motor, high speed was functioning fine on the air conditioner cycle. They did perform the rest of the the work in a clean and neat fashion the technician was friendly and called me several times at work to verify what he was doing. My wife was home and could not answer his questions. The biggest problem I have is they are approximately 5 miles away and still charge a $37.00 travel fee which I can understand outside of a certain distance.

They were prompt, professional, honest, and very reasonably priced.

After trying to clear kitchen sink clog it became apparent that the problem was more extensive. Half the cellar is finished so it took a little while to locate cellar cleanout. Used snake from there all the way to the main and finally succeeded in clearing the whole length of piping. Tech was very persistent and determined to complete the job in a timely manner. Pete was conscientious and informative. Great customer service from initial phone call to completion of service call.

Fixed the problem by repacking/tightening the water valve. The serviceman kindly told me how I could fix the problem the next time, if it should re-occur, by myself.

Very thorough check of everything, provided additional specialty filters for heating system, and made suggestions for possible follow-up on gas bill (such as exploring replacement of gas meter).

The work went very well, though our flower beds were dug up until spring. They excavated, cutout the bad pipe and put in a clean connection. They put some dirt on top to the new connect, and put a large board over the hole to keep our dog out of trouble. Then they came back in late April to re-fill the hole. Everything is working fine now.

We have used them before and were very satisfied with the quality of work and professionalism. They took care of the problems and were very helpful with their knowledge.

I've been using them for 5 years and I keep on going back to them because they're professional and they know what they were supposed to do. They don't charge us because it's part of the warranty.

The tech was very fast and knew immediately what was wrong. Very impressed by this company--will use again!!!!

When the appointment was made we requested replacement of boiler valves at our laundry hook up as the old ones were hard to turn and did not shut the water off without using a wrench. When the plumber arrived he had lever ball valves which did not fit in the space. Rather that running to a supply store and buying the valves needed for the job (I checked, they were available at a number of places within a 3 mile radius.) The plumer said that they would need to order the part and return. They then presented us with a bill for travel ($39) and for 15 minutes work time at a rate of $87/hour. We had described what was needed, it was a generally available part, and 6 days later it still is not fixed. This is not an emergency situation but it does require another time arrangement and greater expense that we should have had (in my opinion).

Installers were on time and finished when they said they would.

Great to work with. They will be here this week for another project.

During the first install, one of the men said he could only install the toilet with NO Baseboard on the wall because he was not able to remove the fitting that was placed on the pipe when the toilet was removed. When I insisted and said it was not possible to live without a baseboard, the other man helped him do it and all was OK after... until the next day when that toilet overflowed all over a hardwood floor. The toilet overflowed because a rag was left in the line. In fairness to the plumber, I had placed the rag in the line, but I certainly did not shove it down so it was not visible... so why wasn't it removed? Don't know.... but when the toilet was used, it overflowed all over the hardwood floor, and into the finished basement below, ruining the ceiling. They did come over promptly, however, to fix it. At that time, I discovered that the day before, the plumber who said he could not remove the fitting and install the toilet properly and did not remove the rag, had used cardboard, like from a cereal box, to shim and level the toilet, rather than standard plastic shims one would expect. A few days later, I used that bathroom and noticed that the fittings that normally go over pipes where they enter the wall were not installed. That means that there were holes in the walls where the pipes entered, with no fitting to give a finished look, so it looked very sloppy. I called and they said they would return and fix that problem. I then noticed that was the case in the 2nd bath as well. They did come and install fittings for a finished look. The 2nd bath was not used often because there are only 2 people living here. Approximately 2 weeks after the installation, my husband used the toilet in the second bath and told me it rocked... meaning it moved when someone sat on it. I called the company and was told that we "must have done something to it". I explained that my children do not live with us and that bathroom is not used, therefore, no one "did something to it", and I asked to speak with the owner. He made arrangements to have that toilet fixed and explained that it is difficult to get good help. I later found out that one of them men at my house was an owner. Six months later, I noticed that the toilet in the first bathroom leaked.... a very small, slow leak. The reason I noticed it is because the hardwood flooring was turning black and warping, and the ceiling tiles in the basement that had been replaced from the flood were stained indicating a small, slow leak. Needless to say, I did not call them to fix the leak and would never ever ever use or recommend this company.

They were not efficient, they were expensive. They were a little dishonest.
