In the end of December, the side of my home was hit by a snow plow. This caused some damage to the exterior siding, the window above the point of impact, and the wood trim inside the house around the window (essentially, the window was pushed inwards and cracked the wood trim around it). The work was supposed to include installation of a new window, installation of new siding around the window, and replacement/installation of the interior wood trim. The trim was to be fabricated in the contractor's shop and was supposed to be a replication of the original detailed molding (authentic late 1800s trim). My payment before work began covered all of the supplies and half of the labor cost, totaling $1150 of $1650. On the first day, the contractor worked for 3 hours, installing the window and securing the area around the window that had been pushed out of alignment. On the second day, in 5 hours he replaced the siding below the window outside and finished with the window installation, and said that he would not be replacing the interior woodwork because it wasn't necessary. After he had packed everything up in his truck, I inquired about the estimate he had provided and the discrepancy between the work done/supplies used versus what he had put in the estimate. Basically, I wanted to know how much less the bill should be since he didn't buy the wood for the interior trim, didn't fabricate the trim in his shop, or install it. He claimed that he should still get the same amount that he quoted, despite the fact that he didn't do a good deal of the work we had agreed upon. He also claimed that he should get $960 for labor (8 hours over 2 days)! After trying unsuccessfully to reason with him, I asked to get a copy of all the receipts and said I would be in touch. Two days later (and no receipts received) I got a threatening call from the contractor. He said that he wanted the remaining payment immediately or he would take me to court. I again explained that he had not done all the work in the estimate, nor had he purchased all the supplies he was supposed to. Eventually, after more threats and insults from the contractor (including him saying that he had my bank account information from the check I wrote), he said he would come finish the work. I said that I did not want him in my home again after his behavior, and that the amount I already paid more than covered the supplies purchased thus far and his labor. I told him that if he felt the need to take me to court, he could do so. He cursed at me again and hung up. Two weeks later (still with no receipts) I got another threatening phone call. The contractor threatened to put a lien on my home if I didn't pay the rest of the estimate. I do not know what in the world this guy is thinking at this point. Quite simply, he did not do all the work promised, nor did he buy all the supplies he was supposed to. He never presented me with receipts. He tried to charge me upwards of $125 an hour for work that wasn't completed. I have taken pictures of the trim that was not replaced in the event that he does take me to court. This has been one of the most unpleasant and stressful situations that I have had to deal with. Do NOT hire this company under any circumstances.
Description of Work: Replaced window, exterior siding beneath window, insulation around window. Did NOT complete all work as agreed upon in estimate.
