COLLINGWOOD CONSTRUCTION

The review already posted mentioned having to replace rotted sheathing. It struck a chord with me. They did the same thing to me. Called me at work to let me know this. The only decision I could make at the time was to have them replace it since I wasn't there to actually see the rotted boards. Now I'm not sure if they were or not. It seems if it happened to someone else in the exact situation makes me think maybe this was a money grab.

We had a wind storm in April that blew many shingles off the back of the house, this was a part insurance claim. Contract was written and signed on 5/4 for $4200.00 and an ASAP repair (3-5 weeks) because of the extensive damage. Recieved a post card in mail mid-june stating they were going to be working in the area and were offering 10 percent off. We called and it didn't apply to previous contracts and they still weren't available to do our roof. Called again begining of july and still not available. We got a call friday july 8,in the p.m. that they would start monday morn and needed a start up check. Good thing we have online banking because we needed to transfer from savings to checking. Monday morning, our nephew gave the owners son the check and work began. Later that morning my husband receives a call from owners son and says all the sheeting on the back of the house is rotted and seperated, needs to be replaced. My husbands at work 20 miles away, I'm at work, he gives the OK and then calls the insurance company to let them know there's more damage then thought. My husband calls the company back to let them know to put the rotted sheets aside because the insurance company needs to look at them. We get home and there's only about 4 sheets aside, out of 15, and the rest are in the dumpster. My husband starts pulling sheets of the OSB board out of the dumpster only to discover it was all good. The insurance company would only pay for 5 sheets. We also had the sheets looked at by 2 other contrators who verified that there was nothing wrong with them. My husband called the company and said we weren't paying for the work that wasn't needed, an extra $1564.00. When we got our bill it went from 15 sheets to 17 sheets and the price was $92 a sheet instead of the contract price of $88. After a couple of days the owner called us and we agreed to pay half of the originally stated 15 sheets at contract price which was $660.00 They did the work but also did unnecessary work and expected us to pay.
