Description of Work: The burner of an older model Caloric oven was not lighting. I called Steve and he gave me an idea of what it could be. He is a no nonsense fellow, but my husband and I came to appreciate his straightforward manner!! He told me up front on the phone that all payment is cash and quoted a price just to look at the oven and diagnose the problem and even gave an idea that the igniter may need to be replaced. We called him and asked him to come over - he came promptly and looked at the oven. It was necessary for him to come back as he had to get the part. He returned in just a few days, but called us first to confirm. He had to move the refrigerator out of its niche and in a very tight spot in order to be able to pull the oven out of the wall and work on it. He did everything that needed to be done and that ancient oven is operational yet again! Steve's THE MAN!!! If you want it done right - call Steve!!! He is a straight shooter, doesn't sugar coat but doesn't take you for a ride either!!! We would definitely use him again!! Thank you Steve!!

 + -1 moreMy wife called Steve on Tues., 3/6, to make an appointment for Fri., 3/9, for the morning as early as possible. He promised to call that morning when he was on his way and that he'd be in our apartment by 10 a.m. On Fri., 3/9, Steve phoned just before 9 a.m. to confirm the address and to ask about street parking which can be tricky in our neighborhood. He arrived shortly after 9 a.m. with his tool bag and got right down to work. He remembered the request to come as early as possible. He was courteous and professional and explained what he was looking for as he went along. He answered questions clearly without any condescension. He was finished with the repairs in under an hour, gave a detailed receipt, and left our apartment before 10 a.m. We definitely would use his services again and would recommend him to others!
Description of Work: On Fri., 3/9/07, Steve unclogged a non-lighting stove burner jet and fixed a non-draining dishwasher. On the burner he showed exactly how to find the tiny pinholes that were clogged from a food spill and explained how to further clean it, thereby saving us from having to buy a new part. Before he ran the dishwasher, he warned that if something was wrong with it, it would be best to buy a new one since it was so old, approx. 15-20 years, and if we did get a new one, to make sure to get one with a 5-year warranty. The machine itself seemed to be fine. Then before going under the sink, Steve noted that the plastic tubing for the ice maker in the fridge looked very flimsy. He checked the tubing leading out of the dishwasher and determined the machine was draining properly and that the problem was a stuck check valve which prevented water from draining out to the sewer line. Although Steve acknowledged he was not a plumber, he knew what to look for and got the check valve to open.

 + -1 moreThe part. As of now (Friday morning), they have still not repaired my oven. But BEWARE! Because I hired STEVEN'S APPLIANCE and the receipt I was given says STEVEN'S APPLIANCE, but the work is actually contracted out to ALL ALLIANCE APPLIANCE which has a C rating, not an A, as Steven's does (or did, before I wrote this). This is misleading, frustrating, and infuriating. Our stove is about 20 years old, though we've only been here 6 years. We're going to have to replace it eventually. If the guy had indicated any difficulty up front, we would probably have just purchased a new stove! I am not at all happy, and I am angry that I wasn't told straightaway that the work was not actually being done through Steven's. (We also had the guy look at our dryer when he was here--I wanted him to open the front so we could remove stray lint, as had been done about a year after we got it, but he refused.) I should've realized then I wasn't dealing w/the company so gloriously reviewed here.
Description of Work: I called these guys based on the number of positive reports on Angie's List, to repair our oven, which had suddenly stopped working. They came as scheduled, and ultimately found there was a problem in the oven's pilot construction. (Some tube needed replacing.) The repairman told us he would have the part by Monday, Tuesday, the latest. (It was the Saturday of Presidents' Day weekend.) On both Monday and Tuesday, the guy called to tell me he hoped to have the part by the next day. I contacted him again Wednesday (to arrange a time to be home), and he said he still did not have the part. Wednesday night I received a message from someone calling from a different number, telling me they had ordered the part but would refund all my money if there were any problems. As I had only paid $25 of the $125 total, I found this a little confusing. Next morning, this same guy called, saying, "We found your part!" I was surprised, as the first guy had said nothing about having trouble finding.

 + -1 moreSteve is absolutely fabulous. When I called him, he was prompt, courteous, and communicative. When he came to look at my appliances, he was more interested in helping me make the right decisions about repairing vs. replacing, than he was about making a larger profit. Ultimately I replaced two appliances rather than pay for repairs. The washing machine that he did repair works marvelously. He may not have made as much money as if he'd repaired all of the appliances, but he's got a client for life.
Description of Work: Repaired washing machine, diagnosed oven and microwave repairs, recommended replacements, and purchase of extended warranties.

He also told me that if he couldn't do the work what the service visit would cost. He then told me what time I could expect him to arrive. He kept me abreast of his progress towards me. He arrived when he said he would and was able to get my oven working on Thanksgiving eve. I was very grateful and pleased.

By 8:30, the refrigerator was working. He informed me what the repair was going to cost before he did it. I would hire him again in an instant.
