+ -1 moreOur washing machine's drum was making a lot of noise and it seemed loose. I called Steve and he told me over the phone that the diagnostics is $50.00 (which seems to be the going rate). He came the next morning, informed me that it was the rear bearing (?) and that it's not worth fixing. He also gave me a couple of pieces of advice about getting another washer. I'm very happy with him and would definitely recommend him.

+ -1 moreSteve was very professional. He offered to come out late in the afternoon on the same day I called him. We arranged for an early appointment the next day. Steve informed me upfront that there would be a $50 service charge that would be applied to the final cost of the repair. Next day, he arrived early, which was nice. I also appreciated that he called when he was on his way so that I had an approximate time for his arrival. When Steve arrived, he checked the oven and explained that the ignitor needed to be replaced which he quickly did. Overall, I was quite pleased with Steve's work and I can highly recommend him for your appliance repair needs.

Called back promptly, arrived within an hour of calling, was clean, friendly, professional, diagnosed the repair, made the repair quickly, guarantees his work for one year - who could ask for anything more? If I wasn't selling my home, I would say I would definitely call Steve back again should I need him. And provided nothing else goes wrong with my appliances in the next two months - I won't have to call him back, but if something does break or fail - I'll be calling Steve again for sure!
Description of Work: My Kenmore oven stopped igniting the gas on the "keep warm" setting as well as the regular oven heat last night. The stove top and broiler were igniting fine, but smelled gas when the oven wouldn't ignite so turned it off. Called Steve's number this morning, and an operator service took my information and Steve called me back within about 5 minutes. I described what was going on with my oven and he explained that to initially come out, there is a $50 Service Fee that will be applied to any work I have done. Steve said he could be there in less than an hour. Sure enough, Steve showed up in less than an hour and seemed friendly and professional. He took a look at my oven and explained that he suspected it was one of the most expensive parts on the oven, a "gas valve regulator/igniter". I think he said they usually run about $350 bucks (might have been higher, can't remember) but he could install one for a total payment of $300 and that he had the part on his truck. I'm already under contract with selling my home, and was stuck between a rock and hard spot. I have to deliver the home with working appliances as they are in the purchase contract. If I wasn't selling, I may have considered spending the extra money to replace the stove/oven with something a bit nicer... but there is no point now in doing that. I had to suck up the $300 bucks and make the repair. Steve warned me up front, that this was only his best estimate of what could be wrong. He also told me that if the part didn't fix the problem, he wasn't going to charge me $300 bucks and move on with going to the next thing to try and figure out what was wrong - thereby adding to my bill. I appreciated his honesty, but also figured he didn't get to have so many positive ratings on Angie's List without knowing what he is doing - so told him to go ahead and replace the gas valve regulator/igniter. He had it replaced in just a few short minutes and after a few tests to resume the flow of gas in the line... the oven appears to ignite stronger, and quicker than it ever did before. Everything appears repaired and in working order again. Steve told me to keep the old part, just in case there was a problem and it turned out that it wasn't the valve after all - he could come back and reinstall the old part and then try to repair whatever else it might be. I seriously doubt that that will happen as it appears that it is fixed for good, but I appreciated his suggestion nonetheless. He said to try it again over the next few days and give him a call on his cell just to let him know everything is working fine, if not he'll come back out. He reminded me that his work is guaranteed for one year, and I told him that I would pass that along to the new buyers of our home, and he was fine with that. I will be calling Steve back in a day or two to give him an update as he requested.

+ -1 moreSteve was exceptional. He came to fix my fridge and instead saved my house. He advised me to get an electrician asap because of poor wiring. He even called me the next day to see how things turned out with the electrician. He went out of his way to provide exceptional service.
Description of Work: Steve was wonderful. He was on time and was very professional. He came repair the GE refrigerator and it turned out that he diagnosed a major fire hazard. The wiring behind the fridge was a mess. He advised me to have this addressed right away by a licensed electrician, which I did. Unfortunately the fridge had to be trashed but because of Steve, my house was saved!

+ -1 moreSteve checked out an old air conditioner and advised me not to repair it. (Thank you!) He removed it for me and then repaired a second unit which needed freon. It was cemented into a sleeve in the wall of my house and he had to really maneuver to get to a point when he could fix it. He had to make a second trip back to my house to install a part that he ordered. Thankfully, the a/c is blowing icy cold air now and I am thrilled. He was reliable, showed up when he was supposed to and did an excellent job for me.
Description of Work: Steve checked out 2 very old air conditioners for me. He advised me to fix one and to throw out the other.

+ -1 moreFor all the work he did, he could have charged me more, but he was pretty fair. But the most important thing in dealing with Steve is that he is there when he says he will be and gets the job done rather quickly. I would not hesitate to call him again.
Description of Work: My ancient Kenmore Series 70 washing machine had stopped working, and rather than buying an inferior new-fangled model, I decided to get it fixed. Having used Steve previously to repair the matching dryer I called him to fix the washer. Steve was able to come over soon, and assessed the problems of which there were several. After ordering the parts, he was able to resurrect the machine into working shape. He also did some work on the dryer to make it safer, including installing a more durable exhaust hose and a gas shut-off valve, which in hindsight, living without all these years was a pretty dangerous situation.

+ -1 moreMy refrigerator, over the past few weeks, was not as cold as it should be.... ice cream was soft, etc; then, the refrigerator would get cold again and work well. I know Steve to be honest and reliable (see previous review). I called him Monday, during the day, to schedule an appointment for Wednesday. (April 10) When I came home from work, Monday evening, the refrigerator had stopped working and the contents were warm. I called Steve, at about 6 PM and left a message. He returned the call, about an hour later, and said he would come right over. It took him about two minutes to diagnose the problem- the thermostat needed to be replaced. He ordered the part the next morning, and installed it that same evening. As always, he is reliable, punctual, honest, and " knows his stuff." His work is guaranteed for a year. By the way, after he installed the thermostat, he returned later to make sure all was well. (8PM)

Description of Work: Steve was responsive via phone when I called to inquire about my dishwasher, which stopped working. There was a build up from my detergent, he told me to switch to the pod since they are premeasured. I would use him again for any appliance issues I have in the future. Since there wasn't any fixing involved he just charged me $50 for the visit, he didn't try to make up a problem when there wasn't any.

+ -1 moreThe ice dispenser in my 4 year old Whirlpool refrigerator stopped working when power returned after Sandy. Everything else worked fine. I called Steve's Appliance at about 5:00 pm on Thursday & left a message that I needed a refrigerator ice dispenser repaired. I said it was not an emergency. Steve returned my call the next day and said he would be away this weekend & would call me when he came back. I got a call the following Monday and Steve said he could check out my refridgerator Wednesday at 10:00 AM. He arrived promptly at 10 and examined my fridge. He said it needed a new electronic board which would cost around $300. He advised me not to fix it and just to get the cubes with my hands. He thought that $300 was a lot for ice cubes but he would get the exact amount over the weekend and call me on Monday to see what I decided. He charged me $35 like he said on the phone and offered a $5.00 discount for cash. I was pleased with his evaluation of my problem and awaited his call. It never came. Over the years of dealing with repair people, I don't make allowances before I hire them. I've found that excuses before hiring leads to problems afterwords. I liked Steve up to not calling me. I will be checking out another repair service soon.

+ -1 morevery satisfied with the speed Steve came on Saturday, I figured he wouldn't come till Monday as I called him late. The refrigerator wasn't turning back on. He did a temporary fix on Saturday and said he would order the part and would come back on Monday, which he did. So far, I am satisfied with the repair, and the speed of his showing up on Saturday!
Description of Work: called steve on Saturday, 3/9/13 about 5:15 pm. Told him my problem and he told me he would be coming over. He fixed the problem temporarily. He said he would order a new part and come on Tuesday, but he called on Monday and said he would come and finish the repair, which he did.

+ -1 moreWhen I called Steve he was about to leave for a two week vacation. Nevertheless, he agreed to squeeze me into his schedule and came over very promptly after I called him. He also arrived when he said he would. He gave some advice on how to isolate where exactly the freeze in the water line was taking place, which was v. useful. He was not able to fix the problem on this visit and suggested that a fix would cost several hundred dollars and might not be worth it. Steve charge $50 for the visit. I ultimately got a GE technician to come out who diagnosed the need for a heater in the dispensor; the technician charged $99 for the visit and gave me a discount on the heater...all in all it came to around $250 for the fix.
Description of Work: Steve provided a consultation on a problem I was having with my GE fridge water dispensor. It was not working. I had already surmised this was because the line was frozen because I could unfreeze it by defrosting the fridge. However, the problem would recur a few hours after the power was switched back on.

+ -1 moreSteve came promptly at the time he told me. He disconnected the dryer from the vent. He cleaned behind both my washer and dryer. He called me an hour after he left to see how the dryer was working. He then recommended I call him in another hour to give him an update. The man is not in the business 19 years for nothing! He was 100% right in his assessment- the dryer worked beautifully when it was not connected to the ductwork. I called him the next day (Sunday!) as he requested, and we arranged for him to come back on Monday to see what he could do with the ductwork, and reconnect the dryer. He arrived promptly again, and took apart the inside ductwork that was attached to the dryer, and cleaned it. Then he swept the floor again! He reattached the dryer, of course better than before, and then went outside to where the vent is, and ran a roto-rooter through the ductwork from outside. Now I know that if the dryer still does not dry properly, that it is not the dryer; I will need to have the ductwork in the walls cleaned out again. I am never disappointed in any way when I call Steve. I can only hope that he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon!
Description of Work: My Maytag Neptune gas dryer once again was not drying efficiently. Steve had replaced the gas coils in September, so when I called him, his feeling was that it might have to do with the venting/ductwork. The ductwork had been cleaned within the last year, so I was doubtful. He advised a trial period with the dryer disconnected from the ductwork.
