John was booked for the next 2 weeks but I begged so he got me in within a few days, showed up right on time. The problem wasn't immediately reproducible (hate it when that happens!) but John did a maintenance check, cleaned the filters, and we realized that the clock on the system was wrong (probably due to a power failure here). He showed me how to fix it and how the system works but refused to charge me for his time (45 min) since it was an easy problem on a system he installed and he felt like it was his fault since he should have showed me the clock! Comes prepared to clean up his mess, so not arrogant (believed me even though we couldn't reproduce the problem right then) and friendly.
Description of Work: A water filtration system that John put in 5 years ago seemed to be having a problem. Turned out it was just a timer issue but meanwhile John did a cleanup and maintenance check of the system in case; and refused to charge me even though he was here about 45 min.

Over a 2 month period, he was asked to provide information about the components I would need so I could have them ordered for him. He finally showed with the information and I ordered the items. During this time, the utility company had a $1000 rebate on this new boiler which would expire by 3/31/10. He promised many times that the work would be done in time to get the rebate. He gave me a start date and time (9am) We had 18" of snow and he wanted to use the back door (reasonable) and in our conversation 2 nights prior to the start, I told him that he could use my snow-blower to cut a path around the house to the back door - he was agreeable to that idea. I just had emergency eye surgery and had to go to a post-op Dr's appointment the morning he started. I left him a note on the front door that I would be back by 10am and left the snowblower out. I left the back door unlocked so he could gain access to the house and begin work. I arrived home at 9:50 and he was not here. A 6' path had been started in the yard with the snowblower. I waited for him to return, but did not hear a word from him nor did he show the next day. I called him and left a message - no response. I called 3 days later and left a message and no response. I called for 4 subsequent days and left messages - simply stating my name and phone number. No response until the last message (15 days after he promised to begin the work) where he called me quite obnoxious and told me that snowblowing was NOT in his contract and if I called him again I would be charged with harassment - then he hung up. This is all after he insisted on giving me a hug to seal the deal!!!!! I am now in the position of losing the $1,000 rebate, finding a new contractor and wondering if I can afford whatever new price it will cost.
Description of Work: I discussed my project with this contractor & he agreed to do the work of installing a new hydronic heating system, replacing a boiler & water heater. He quoted me a price & I agreed. Everything was verbal - he provided no written proposal. He showed to start the work & left within 1 hour & never returned with no explanation. I finally got him to return my numerous messages after 15 days & he was very rude & obnoxious, telling me he would charge me with harassment if I called him again. Then he hung up! This is all after he insisted on giving me a hug to seal the deal!!!!!
