To start with, one of the partners seems to do the on site assessments and measuring, etc. The other partner is in the office and does most of the phone communication, One is pleasant, bubbly and nice, and the other must get out of the wrong side of bed every day! One bad day I can handle but every day? So attitude is also important when things don't always go right. Mis communications such as telling me that the workers will be there and then no show or no workers will be at your place tomorrow and then me coming out of the shower to hear a worker in my house. This was an honest mistake not someone trying to come in on bad pretense but it put me and the worker in bad situation. Needless to say I took the key from them and then had to either be home when the workers came or drop the key off to their office. My experience with Home Base was several years ago and maybe they have improved with accuracy and customer service but I will never take the opportunity to find out.
Description of Work: 1. renovate bathroom - this should have gone well but the new counter top would not fit over the existing double sink plumbing. Mis measured, not thought out ahead by contractor. Little things like the shower head being installed way too high up - even big guys comment on this, or not showing up on days scheduled. But they did make good on the counter top and replaced it with actually higher quality that would fit. Lost the use of this room for far longer than should have been. 2. installation of main entrance door. this was another mismeasure and a costly one. First the replacement door came wrong size, they had already torn out the existing one. Waited for the manufacturer to replace (they went out of business somewhere along the way of this saga), the sills never sat correctly, the wind blew in and finally we went to another contractor and started all over again. I think that Home Base tried and just couldn't fix this because the solution was wrong to begin with. This is why it pays to go with high quality contractors and a mentality that doesn't always focus on the "cheapest pricing" or rely on spot labor. Measure twice, cut once!

Rep. measured doors, assured me there was no issue with fit, or danger to cathedral window above the door. Composition was to provide better insulation, etc. Workers arrived, ripped out old frame. Attempted to install doors, they were the wrong size. This composition is not measured to fit by the company, but comes in standard size. They removed the new items that were just installed, put back in the ripped out and damaged old frame and attached old doors. Reordered doors - when they arrive, they do not fit properly - either the frame or doors are warped. After many months, order new door, still same problem. Spend the entire winter with rags stuffed in doors that do not seal properly. Home Base no longer responds to my phone calls. Their workmen have stated that they have done the best they can. I can see daylight, feel the extremely cold air, and the rags remain to close off the outdoor atmosphere. I used this company once before for a bathroom remodel. They installed the wrong sink-counter top/plumbing configuration for the existing cabinets. Had to rip out counter top and reinstall another type - not what I wanted. This took months to complete, but they did pay for the mistakes and I thought they would be good customer support and quality work for the doors. I was wrong. I would never recommend them to anyone. I have subsequently discover that almost everything they install is crooked or not measured properly.
