Shawn is a very friendly, honest, nice guy. When he came to give us an estimate, he listened to what we wanted done, our concerns and was very agreeable with all our requests. Each member of the crew was knowledgable and Shawn was here to oversee and participate in most of the work himself. We had a little setback because Shawn hurt his back but the work was finished within the anticipated timeline. The job came out beautiful. Our home went from broken concrete steps, walkway and even the sidewalk cracking to a home that has curb appeal and looks classy and worth coming home to. I would highly recommend Shawn. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

This is the third job that Shawn and his team provided within the last 12 months. Consultation, preparation and execution have 100% professional and reliable and the quality of the work has been consistently excellent. I couldn't be happier with the results! Shawn is one of these rare professionals who are fully committed to their task and their clients and don't walk away from a job until every detail is perfect and the client is completely satisfied. They are Pro's plain and simple. There's 3 things I look for when paying a contractor - do they respond and respond quickly, do they do the job when they say they will and are they well priced. SMJ was aces on all fronts. Dana who give s the quotes and coordinates the jobs is amazing, and lovely to work with - always responds quickly and in great spirits. And I was driving her crazy with a million texts and e-mails and she never missed a beat, always sending me anything I needed super quick. I was a bit desperate because my house is a two family so I needed my steps fixed as soon as it was warm enough to mortar. They promised they would be there on 3/12 and be finished by 3/13 - Shawn was there 7am on 3/12 with his crew ready to go. Finished ahead of time, steps came out beautiful, they cleaned up everything before they left and he even remortared some brings that were separating on my front walkway at no cost. He's a class act and a professional. Best part about it Shawn's quote was less then the other places I called. Bottom line is, you are on Angies List because you know the unknown of hiring a crappy schlep to do contracting work can not only be a pain but also cost your a sh*t load of money. I will always use SMJ from now on and will recommend them to anyone I can.

Work was completed on time, the stoop repair work is excellent it looks like new. Contractor is easy to contact and answered all questions promptly. I recommend them highly.

Shawn was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Extremely friendly and trustworthy. Due to a scheduling mistake on my part, Shawn and his crew had to work in my kitchen while another group was redoing my siding. This of course lead to a complete nightmare but Shawn laughed it off and never had an issue with it. He also came back the day after finishing the job to make a couple quick changes (one of which was due to an error on my part). Couldn't be happier with the finished product or overall experience. Will DEFINITELY use Shawn again in the future!

SJM fit the bill of the type of contractor I was looking for- expert masonary, trustworthly and professional. They are the perfect example of what an exceptional contractor is. From the start, Dana scheduled my estimate in a timely manner and addressed all my concerns. Shawn arrived on time as agreed and took the time to described what and how the repair need to be done. They are extremely friendly and pleasant to work with. I was rather unfortunately to experience an unexpected damage to my driveway but the care and attention that I received from SJM alleviated my worries. Shawn and his team arrived on time each day and worked tirelessly to ensure that the work was done right- during one of the hottest day of the summer no less. He even repaired some minor problems I had in my backyard for free. I'm pleased with the results and my neighbors don't even noticed that there used to be a large hole. I highly recommend SJM. They are Simply Just Magnificent.

First I must commend SJM for their prompt response to my message, unlike some other places I contacted. Dana is a very important and professional team of SJM. She doesn't just make appts. She follows up with the progress, Shawn came on time to look at the job I wanted done and took measurements. He then sent me an estimate based on what stone I wanted along with pictures of suggested stones. He also gave me the name of a location that I could visit to look at not just the stones he thought would go with the rest of the house but I could make my own choice. Shawn personally participated in the work. I was getting compliments from my friends and neighbors from day 1. I love it, love it, love it.

I have to write a review even though SJM didn't work for me at this time. I made an appointment with them for an estimate to replace sidewalk flags. In the meantime, the company who had done the original work a year ago, contacted me and offered to do it, and I felt it was only fair to give them the opportunity. But I have to say, both Shawn and his secretary Dana in the office couldn't have been more gracious. They responded to messages promptly and were very helpful. I would definitely try them for future work without hesitation!

Hallelujah! After a long search and a couple of false starts we finally found a masonry contractor we can trust. Shawn was terrific right from the start showing up promptly for the initial estimate. He listened to us very carefully as we described what we wanted and how we wanted it. The job was to expand and build new front entryway steps and concrete/brick walkway, a new side entryway steps and then to repave our large asphalt driveway and edge it with new Belgian block. In addition, we asked Shawn to make repairs to our enormous, original 1929 brick chimney and to match the style and feel of the chimney brick to our new stoops and cap the stoops with artistically cut limestone capping. Shawn,as opposed to the other contractors we interviewed, immediately understood the look and feel of what we were going for and didn't try to sell us on a job that would be easiest for him to complete. After we negotiated a price, he set a start date about a month out, pending any weather delays. We're very pleased to say, he began the work only one week later than planned and finished in 2 weeks as originally promised. Shawn was on the job 90% of the time and expertly did the vast majority of the bricklaying and capping. The small crew was very pleasant and respectful and the job went smoothly. Naturally, there were a couple of bumps along the way, but Shawn rectified the problems cheerfully and professionally. We were more than pleased with the results as the stoops and walkway looked even better than we had imagined. That's saying a lot, as my wife is a professional graphic artist and made detailed Photoshop renderings of the proposed work. I would be remiss if I didn't say a few words about the unsung heroine in all of this, Shawn's wife Dana, who always returned calls and emails and kept us apprised of all phases of the job. I can't stress the importance of this to us as customers. After months of dealing with contractors who never returned calls, ignored their own written estimates, cancelled starts dates for months and months on end and other incredibly unprofessional behavior, it was a pleasure to deal with Shawn, Dana and their crew. Were they the cheapest estimate? No. Were they worth it? Yes. In our opinion, paying a little more is well worth it when you can deal with Pros and avoid tons of aggravation from dealing with sloppy amateurs. Highly recommended!

Crew was there promptly everyday. They were professional and responded to any concerns I may have had. The job was completed in three days. I was very pleased with their work ethic which resulted in a job well done . I would definitely use SJMTILE again.

When Shawn came to my condo to give me an estimate for the job, I immediately knew that I was on the right track! He arrived promptly at the agreed upon time and listened to exactly what I wanted. (A day prior to our appointment, I received a confirmation e-mail of our meeting, which was very reassuring).Then, Shawn provided some suggestions (based upon his vast experience) as to what he thought would work best for met in terms of layout, pattern, size of tile, etc. Of specific concern to me was that the previous owners of the condo had used an inexperienced contractor (NOT SJM Tile & Masonry) that had botched the job. The result was that moisture & water got trapped underneath the tiles causing moss & grass to grow out the sides/top of the balcony, causing the tiles to buckle, and causing extensive damage including leaks down to the patio of the neighbor downstairs and the weakening of the structure of the balcony. The previous owners had to then hire another contractor to remove the tiles, completely re-waterproof the surface of the balcony, and repair the damage done to the neighbor below them. As I related this story to Shawn, he assured me that there would be no leakage since prior to laying any tile since he was first laying a special Ditra membrane on top of the concrete surface of the balcony. Since this membrane would be underneath the tile, there was no chance of any leakage of water/moisture making its way underneath the tile and to the concrete surface of the balcony. I repeatedly asked Shawn m-a-n-y questions about the overall process, materials to be used, etc. and he always answered them in a friendly and professional manner. Shawn's wife & business partner, Dana, runs the office-administrative/sales/marketing part of the business and was a pleasure to work with. Being a condo, there are many 'house' rules as well as specific renovation work polices for contractors. I provided Dana with a copy of the condo's polices (including the requirements for the Scope of Work, contractor's license, workman's compensation, certificate of liability) which she diligently provided me. Dana has excellent follow-through, is pleasant, detailed, and thoroughly professional. The day of the job, May 19, Shawn and his crew (Jason and Oscar) arrived on time, carefully unloaded all of their materials (including the tile which I had "The Tile Shop' deliver to their location) and got to work. Just before they commenced working, the Resident Manager (Paul) and the Board Member in charge of Maintenance (Tony) came to my unit to do a pre-inspection of the work-site as well as meet Shawn. Shawn made an additional suggestion about adding a tile saddle to the sides (bordering my neighbors' balconies to the left and right) which would be both aesthetically appealing and provide even greater sealing of the joints/allow for the proper flow of water off the balcony. Everything went super-smooth as Shawn and his team were all pros and knew their business. Shawn was there the whole time and gets down on the floor with his crew and works with them! There was no need for me to hover over them but I was interested in the process and stayed close by out of their way. When I did have a question, comment, or suggestion, they listened. Their attention to detail was great...they made sure everything was perfectly aligned, level, and symmetrical. After they laid the tile and grout, they were on their hands and knees repeatedly sponging and cleaning the tile before applying a special grout sealant. Shawn even applied a special grey colored adhesive that matched the flashed area outside of the patio storm door as an EXTRA barrier against water. They left the work-site immaculate. When the Resident Manager, Paul, came back to do the post-installation inspection, his exact words were as follows: "...These guys do GREAT work....they REALLY know what they are doing....this looks GREAT..." I could not be happier with the job that SJM - the owner Shawn and his crew (Jason & Oscar) - did. I highly(!!!) recommend them. In fact, my neighbor to the right (Charles) came out to watch them work. He was very apprehensive about having his balcony tiled (his balcony is just a painted concrete surface) given the previous owners' bad experience. However, after seeing how SJM laid the Ditra membrane, how hard they worked, how professional they were, the care they took, and what my finished balcony looked like, he said that his mind has been changed!

.Shawn is the owner who does the work with two employees who together exemplify the true meaning of teamwork. Their competence in all aspects of the tiling process was outstanding. Whenever Shawn encountered a "problem" such as a step down into the sunken living room he was able to implement a great solution. Bottom line is SJM Tile & Masonry came in within budget both in terms of cost and time. He was a pleasure to work with and we knew he had done a fabulous job when he whipped out his camera to take photos to show his wife. We highly recommend SJM Tile & Carpeting!

In a day and age where many contractors just drop their guys off and leave to do another job, it is a rare find when the owner of the company is on the job himself. Also, I was most grateful Shawn gave me design ideas that kept the project under budget. I was very very happy with the price and the the way my backyard has been transformed. So grateful that he also guided me through the whole renovation with design ideas that kept the project under budget and still looks beautiful! Also, Shawn installed some eco-friendly solar-powered paver lights which also complement my new patio and illuminates and showcases the area. It has lifted my spirits since I have not been able to entertain outside for some time and now I am able to have an outdoor space that my guests will never want to leave! The owner of the company was on the job site every day making sure the workers kept the site clean and did the bulk of the technical installation himself. I was very very happy with the price and the overall look of the finished product. I think it is the most beautiful walkway on the block and still looks like it was just installed. Very happy with this company. A+++ I would recommend them to anyone who wants a mason contractor who is personable, honest and reliable. Another bonus, he doesn't just drop off his workers and leave them on the job without oversight. I will be using them again and again.

I was so grateful he even gave me design ideas that kept the project under budget and looks beautiful! He has a great eye for design. He even installed eco-friendly solar-powered pavers to complement the new patio - adding solar lights really illuminates and showcases the area, making evening entertaining even more enjoyable. Having this work done and someone as friendly and knowledgeable as Shawn truly lifted my spirits because I have not been able to entertain outside for some time now, and it's really nice to be able to create an outdoor space that my guests will never want to leave!

We love our new walkways, stoops, retaining walls and driveway. The crew were extremely professional and hard working. We couldn't be happier. A job well done!

SJM Tile was courteous, on-time, on-budget, clean, and professional in every way. The pricing for this job was a bit more than we were expecting, but we definitely feel that we got our money's worth. The final product was truly outstanding! We look forward to using this company again in the future and recommending them to others.

We were completely satisfied with our experience. SJM was one of several contractors who provided estimates, and at first we felt SJM's pricing was high. However, after asking each contractor additional questions about their approach and methods, we felt SJM was the only one who was going to provide the quality we expected. Faith, the office manager, was very patient with our many questions and always responded within 24 hours. Shawn and an assistant showed up on time and began working immediately. The work was completed within a day and a half. We were concerned about the water-proofing and Shawn applied two coats of RedGard membrane as promised. As for the tiling, the grout lines were level and equally sized. The cut-outs for the shower plumbing were sized precisely, and the glass tile accent strip and two shelf units turned out exactly as planned. We would not hesitate to work with Shawn again should we have tiling needs.
