THE CARPENTER GIOVANNI CAME TO THE HOUSE AND TOOK MEASUREMENTS AND GAVE SOME SUGGESTIONS AFTER WE TOLD HIM WHAT TYPE OF LOOK WE WANTED. HIS SUGGESTIONS WERE SPOT ON. WE WENT TO HIS SHOP IN FRANKLIN SQUARE TO PICK OUT THE FINISH WE WANTED AND GAVE HIM A DEPOSIT. WHEN THE FINAL PRODUCT ARRIVED WE WERE SO PLEASED WITH THE WORKMANSHIP AND PRECISION OF HIS PRODUCT. INSTALLATION WAS PERFECT. WE ARE NOW PLANNING ON USING HIM FOR OUR BATHROOM RENOVATION
Description of Work: MADE AND INSTALLED WOOD CABINETS TO SPECIFICATIONS IN OUR NEWLY RENOVATED SUN ROOM.

Not so good...design of the kitchen was wrong which caused the front door, which opened from outside in, not to open all the way and hitting both the refrigerator and anyone standing in front of it or next to it whenever the door was opened...not enough space given between the door and the refrigerator. To add insult to injury, not even a year later, the finish on the cabinets started to peel off....which meant every door was taken down to be refinished again...The reason given was that Metz used a "different" finisher to do my cabinets...lucky us....The bases were not removed, and now we are starting to see that some bases are also starting to peel...never seen anything like it..It took my old cabinets about 25 years to even see a paint peel off around the knobs and the top part of my doors... Metz then refused to do the work of opening up the wall and installing a sliding door to fix the problem of the front door hitting us when we were by the refrigerator and also hitting my brand new stainless steel refrigerator. Metz asked for an additional $3,000 do the work of opening up the space, install the sliding door and finish the wall, even though we were paying for all the material, the new sliding door (taking a hit on the cost of the door and window he had originally installed) and whatever else material he needed and also offered to give $200 to his assistant for the day...We decided that if we were going to pay, we would pay someone other than Metz to fix Metz' mistake. Bottom line, the kitchen job ended up costing us approximatley another $10,000 to buy a new sliding door, the cost of a brand new door and window we threw away, pay to have the wall opened up, the sliding door installed and all the finishing work, inside and outside. Unfortunately, I think we are also stuck with poorly made cabinets, whose finish peels off like layers of an onion....VERY disappointed as to how Metz handled the problem caused by the faulty kitchen design We hired Metz because we thought being a custom cabinet maker we would get better made cabinets that ready-made ones; the factory is in the neighborhood and we thought he would give better service than some corporation..we were wrong, wrong, wrong....By the way, Metz offered only a one year guarantee on the new finish when every cabinet maker I contacted said they offer a life time guarantee on their finish. I'm very saddened and upset to write this review, it has taken me almost six months to decide to do it, but I must do it so that anyone thinking of hiring Metz thinks about it twice. If you read this Giovanni, remember all you had to do was to do the right thing and stand by your work, you made the mistake, you should have done whatever it took to fix it and leave your customer satisfied...You would never have lived with that situation in your home, why did you think we should live with it in ours? We put our trust in you and you failed us. I just hope you do the right thing and stand by the finish of your cabinets as per the community standard for guarantees on brand new cabinets!
