Nunez Construction and Painting

I wish you had an A+ rating because this firm deserves it. We have owned our home for over 34 years and in that time we have done some serious renovations. But nothing compares to the work that the Nunez crew did. From the very first meeting, something was different. Not only did the owner listen to our thoughts and concerns but also actively discouraged us from spending too much. Once we had determined what we wanted, he provided us with an electronic drawing the next day. We re-arranged things, asked more questions, etc. and then we received an amended version immediately. Nunez works with a supplier for kitchen cabinetry, tile, etc. which made it very simple to choose what we wanted.(Not mandatory but made the process so easy). We received the estimate for the job very quickly and were able to decide to go forward effortlessly. From the beginning we had been told that they would be available the beginning of October. And they were true to the word. We were told the job would take 2-3 weeks. And they were true to their word. They had to rip everything out.....but worked with keeping elements that we had done before that we loved....They even had to rebuild the flooring which was done in 1929 when there was no code....no problem and they made the whole area more explansive by leveling the floor so it could flow to an extention that has as part our downstairs bathroom. When we ripped down the walls we found plumbing that was ready to rust out and when we ripped out part of the ceiling from a bathroom leak from upstairs we found a sloped ceiling underneath the newer one that had rotted out. I will not go into all the details but suffice it to say there were many discoveries. At every juncture, there was never a problem. They fixed whatever arose, stuck to schedule, worked incredibly well as a team, were friendly. All our neighbors loved them! And they stuck to the schedule they had estimated. This owner and his whole team really take pride in their work. They are an affable crew that knows what they are doing. And all that extra work? What they asked in payment was beyond fair. They showed up when they said they would, kept us informed of the project along the way, responded to all of our requests courteously, professionally and supportively. What can I say...these guys are the best. We never imaginied our kitchen could be this beautiful. This Thanksgiving, as our family gathers around the table with the meal that has just been prepared in our brand new kitchen, the first ones we will thank God for are the fellows from Nunez construction. May their lives be blessed. They certainly have blessed ours. Thank you Angie's List.

Being home as my old kitchen was demolished and the new kitchen installed is quite an amazing process and believe me, I'm glad these guys know how and do clean up the mess that's created from such a project. I liked that I was kept informed. After each day I was given an update and details on what would be done next and if I had any questions or concerns. I like that they listen and follow through. Three weeks later its hard to remember my old kitchen because the new one is absolutely beautiful. I loved the quality of service Nunez Construction provided and their motto..."We're happy when you're happy!" I'm happy...thank you Nunez Construction.

Fantastic job, great experience. They did great work, kitchen and bathroom look great, and they fulfilled absolutely everything we had agreed to.

Nunez (the owner) is the best thing about the company. From the moment we met him (he responded to our message within 24 hours) - we felt comfortable. He was always involved. And better yet - told us it would be done in 1 week - and guess what - it was done in 1 week. This job was a complete gut and remodel of a second floor bathroom - including moving fixtures tub, toilet and sink. Not an easy task but we couldn't be happier! Nunez and his crews always showed up on time. Always. Plumbers, Electricians, Tile guys - they all were clear on the job to be done and were hardworking. They gutted the bathroom in one day (6x8 - full bath) - and made sure everything was taped up and sealed so the debris would be contained. Everything was well coordinated so there was no time lost either! The place was always left clean and the job was done exactly as promised. Nunez was always available for any questions - no matter what. Embarking on a remodel job is a big task but we are so pleased with the results. We will definitely use Nunez for any future remodels!

Was asked on form for suggested dates. Thought I would have to wait so put down for a month later. Was contacted immediately and Mr. Nunez came to our home and scheduled the painting for the following week. Wanted two different colors on ceiling and walls although there was no cut off point as most rooms. They did an excellent job, very professional and we would definitely use them again. Mr. Nunez was a pleasure to work with.

Sensational. After renovating a multi-family property (see my earlier review of Nunez Construction), I had the soil tested in the back yard in preparation for my garden (flowers, veges, fruits, & herbs). Turned out that residents had been dumping all sorts of nasty junk back there for at least a decade or two. Needed to clear it out and replace it. It measures 25' x 25', and I needed to go down at least 2 feet. Problem is I have no driveway- just a 4' wide alley along the side of the house. Called Efren (Nunez), he came down to take a look, figured out how we could get it done, and then we went and got it done. He got a large dumpster curbside, and had 5 of his guys digging and filling buckets, transporting (hauling) the buckets to the dumpster, and packing down the dirt. In one weekend the dumpster was full, and we were only half done. So he scheduled another, and got the job finished the following weekend. Currently waiting for a city inspector to deal with a retaining wall, but after the wall is dealt with (hopefully by Nunez), I absolutely will call them to help transfer the new topsoil from curbside to the back garden. Sounds corny, but I think of them as family now.

They were very pleasant and I would recommend them to anyone that is around this area. They cleaned up well after themselves. They did a very good job.

The guys were on time each day. They were friendly and relatively clean. The work was done on time. There were a few issues. During demo, they cracked a window frame a little. Filled it with spackled and it looks bad. They also damaged a radiator cover and the drywall behind the bathroom in the hall that had to be repaired. There was some tile work that was not level, and some where the tiles weren't flush with the rest. They also used kitchen soap to spread the caulk around the tube but unfortunately it was yellow and made the caulk yellow. They damaged the mirror but paid for the replacement. Overall good guys but you get what you pay for.

Mr. Nunez and his workmen were very polite and professional. The project manager was great he listened to my questions and concerns and resolved them. What I liked most about the crew is that they arrived on time and the cleaned up at the end of every work day. I was very happy with the way the project came out an I would definitely use them in the future.

They did well. It was a great experience. They did not charge me any more than the $500 big deal. They were perfect. They did the job and painted the whole apartment in the right amount of time. The job was fine and the price was really good. It was cheap. Their punctuality was also good.

I had another terrific experience working with Nunez Construction. (You can see my earlier review posted on May 16, 2013). This most recent job concerned my house?s first floor, which was too compartmentalized to be practical. The idea was to create an open concept space. We did meet with various companies initially to obtain quotes and gauge how much the work should cost but at the end of the day we selected Nunez because we were familiar with his work ethic and accessibility. You see, his job does not end when the particular work is done. He was very responsive when we had an issue with plumbing following the initial renovation earlier this year. His responsiveness, coupled with a competitive quote, made him the clear choice. Work began on August 5. The original timeframe for the project was four weeks but the crew finished in two weeks, which was a wonderful bonus for us. Nunez worked with us when we wanted to add some elements (e.g., crown molding) and the end result is exactly what I envisioned. I highly recommend Nunez for your home improvement needs. He is honest, reliable and his crew is hard-working and efficient. I will surely reach out to him for any future renovations.

Didn't use the company this time -- will definitely consider in the future. Was very nice throughout the initial phase of looking at the job and sending us a proposal.

I asked Efran to meet me at my new apartment building to give me a quote on painting a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment (around 1,000 sq. ft.) in Long Island City, Queens. He called to say he was going to be a couple of minutes late, which was completely reasonable given the construction and traffic going on in my neighborhood. He surveyed the apartment and took very detailed notes. He asked lots of questions about exactly what needed to be painted, by when the job needed to be completed, and what kind of paint I wanted to use. The reason I had asked him to come give me a quote is that another company had already told me they would do it for a certain price. After he had a chance to evaluate the apartment, I asked him he if could do the same job in the same amount of job for the same price. He said no. Just like that. I told him how much the other company quoted me, and he said it was a great deal I should take right away. He said his price would be about 30% more and that he couldn't complete it in the short amount of time I had to get the job done. He was completely honest and didn't try to sell me his services knowing he couldn't get the work done in time. He even told me what to look out for with the other guy so I wouldn't be taken advantage of in the end. I have no doubt that anyone who works with Efran will be very happy with his work. His honesty and professionalism speak volumes for the kind of businessman he is. I would recommend him to my friends and I have every intention of trying to use him next time around.

I felt like the estimate of the job was a little high so I decided not to use the service. He was not straightforward.

I purchased a Big Deal coupon from them. That was good. They did an awesome job. I purchased the package from Angie’s list but there were certain things that weren’t included in the package like plumbing and electrical and other things like only certain amount of square footage of tiles or something like that. However I purchased a vanity, closet and the shower and he gave me a discount that was listed on there. I felt really good but there were few minor problems but they got if fixed. The work they do is really good because he comes right almost every day and he has his guys working. When he begins he comes with his guys and once they get started and doing it he comes back and checks in and he calls me asks how is it going and if I have any concerns? I feel the pricing was excellent. He didn’t call me but I called him after I purchased the package as I was desperate to get it done as the floor was leaking. He came right over after I called him as he wanted to begin as soon as possible. He showed up at the time that he would. They were so trustworthy from the first two days that I actually allowed them use the garage and the key and everything. I wanted to pay him the day he was done but he said he will get back. He came back and said, “What do you think about the work?” he said if there is anything wrong, or any problems or anything that I see which I have not seen before I can call him.

I wanted an estimate and he said he would do the work and then give a paper. I did not know what that meant so I just went on to look for additonal providers. I thought he would give me an estimate on the work. I feel like real contractors would give you and estimate without hesitation and give me a fair price. He spoke about price and gave me an estimate of $1600 to do one ceiling and asked if that was for both ceilings and came back and said no. He stated it would be more. I didn't like that. I felt there was hesitation on the price that he gave.

We are extremely happy with this contractor and his staff. The work was completed ahead of schedule. Staff was prompt, courteous, neat and did a great job. Mr. Nunez was very pleasant to deal with and was always very responsive to our questions.

I am more than extremely pleased with the outcome of my kitchen renovation. It has been a dream of mine for 15 years to have a functional and beautiful kitchen and now I have both. Efrain was there throughout the whole process never hesitating to tell me that all he wanted to do was make my family happy. Well we are! I can say that this has been the first time that I have done work on my house and have been completely satisfied with the work that was performed. Efrain was professional and so were his workers doing whatever I wanted. I would recommend him to family and friends because I know that he will provide the service that is asked of him.

Efran came for an estimate on June 27th and told me that although they were booked with some bigger projects through November they would be able to fit me in two weeks time. I really appreciated that I was given an estimate for the job on the spot instead of being told I would be called later. Some other providers have done that and it is always frustrating when they never get back to you so having him tell me the price on the spot was a welcome breath of fresh air. I was late getting back to him to start the job the second week of July (as they'd been booked already) but he was more than willing to fit me into a slot starting the 25th of July. The workers arrived promptly on the 25th and proceeded to tear down the ceiling. When dealing with that sort of job there is a tremendous amount of dirt and dust and they did a nice job of containing it to the work area and trying their best to prevent it from going into other rooms. The first day was all about clearing out the ceiling and getting the sheet-rock and plaster up. They did a nice job of cleaning up as well. The second day they arrived around 11am to give the ceiling plaster time to dry. They also did work on the interior doors. There were 10 doors that needed to be put in and because the door frames were not quite standard size they had to cut EVERY SINGLE DOOR to make them fit. They also provided handles for all the doors which was great and something I forgot to ask about during the initial estimate. They did a lot of work on the ceiling, including installing an attic ladder. The third day they finished up all the doors and the ceiling. They painted the ceiling, they painted the doors white and even painting the hallway with the paint I had left over from when I painted it a few years back. They did all of it in a professional manner and did their best not to get paint all over the finished floors. The last day I was really impressed with how well they did their work. For instance, when installed the bi-fold closet doors there was a considerable amount of space above the door that should've been covered by the crown molding. They actually took the molding off, cut down the height of the molding on the side and then reinstalled the top part of the molding. It was more unexpected work for them but they did it graciously and Efran didn't charge any extra for it. Another instance was I had a bi-fold door for the Baby's room and I asked if they could make it into French Doors and they did without any hesitation (and with no complaint!). It is the extra effort like that which really made this a great experience. They finished their work and I couldn't be happier. They did a fantastic job with the clean-up, too. There was dust everywhere! (not their fault - it's what happens with jobs like this) and they stayed a good hour just to clean up! I was extremely happy with their service and I would definitely consider using them for future jobs!

I called the contractor and described what I wanted done; that week the contractor visited the site while I was at work. I received an estimate of around $1500. On the day the work was done, the crew did more cement work than the estimate had included. This resulted in the company having to call the cement truck back for a 2nd concrete delivery. The contractor absorbed the cost himself. The work was excellent, the crew was efficient, and the work site was completely cleaned up before they left.

I joined Angie's list because all the contractors I called never even came for an estimate, After joining Angies List I call Nunez Construction and Efren the owner answered my call immediately and we scheduled an appt for an estimate. He showed up for the estimate and we proceeded to have the work done by him and his workers. They came as scheduled and did the work as expected. They were very neat, organized and honest. They did not try to sell you extra work for additional monies, they did what you wanted and they did a beautiful job. He is everything you would want in a contractor, reasonably priced, on-time, quality worker and goes the extra mile for you. I would not hesitate to call him in the future for any repair work.

after estimate was provided verbally, i asked him to email me the estimate breaking it down into the different jobs i had asked for, so i could see if they were competitive. When he heard that, he said he would send it, but he had no openings until september. This was after he called me 3 times to give me the estimate. why didnt he mention this before the estimate? when he found out i was bidding out the individual jobs he completely changed his tune. i never would have called him, or taken time out from work to get an estimate from someone, who couldn't do the work until September. I had asked for an estimate on kitchen renovation, painting and refinishing floors. I told him the kitchen was the last thing i would do, but i wanted the floors and painting asap. He was a waste of time.

The painting coupons on Angie's list were priced at $500. each/per day which included the labor of two painters. I purchased three painting coupons from Angie's list for a total of $1500. I expected that to be sufficient to paint my entire one bedroom apartment of 800 square feet. The paint and supplies were not included, which I purchased separately from Home Depot. The painting company also charged me an extra $100. for a copy of their insurance certificate, which was required by my building management. On the first day of the job, I was surprised to see an additional third painter, that I did not request. That extra painter worked only two days out of the three. Since I didn't order a third painter, I thought the extra painter was just there to help the job get done faster. I was not told in advance that I would be billed extra. At the completion of the job, I was surprised to receive a bill for an additional $500 for the extra painter. That extra charge took me over my budget. The painters arrived exactly on time each day and the company owner gave them instructions and then left. The painters understood and spoke English. They worked at a normal pace. It was a simple job because all the rooms were painted the same color. The first day the painters didn't bring enough drop cloths and they ended up getting paint on my sofa in several spots. Lucky for me, it was water based latex paint and I was able to clean the sofa myself. The painters cleaned up the apartment when they finished. The final result was a satisfactory and clean paint job.

We were vey pleased with the way everything turned out from the beginning to end of the project. Both rooms came out great. Owner and workers were professional. Workers were punctual and they cleaned up each day during the project. They also kept us posted each day on the status of the work. I would definitely utilize this company for future projects and I also recommend them.
