Magic Exterminating

The secretary I spoke with, Opel, didn't seem to know her job. She couldn't give me specific answers and she was on the curt side. I wouldn't go with them if they were free.

They will come out to treat for termites, but won't confirm I have them unless I give them $125 first. VERY MISLEADING ADVERTISING. DOES NOT INSPIRE TRUST NO MATTER HOW MANY GOOD FRIENDS GAVE THEM AN A.

Extermination Co Magic were fine. They were responsive.

I like that fact that they guarantee their work. They accept installments, and the other thing is that the service men are very professional. I have also used them for termite control in the past,and they got rid to the termites. Another company cheaper, but I go back tot them because I know the quality of their work.

We orginally called for a quote and gave them the low down on the type of bugs and pest that were entering the house. Magic immediately recommend their quarterly plan to help keep these bugs away. We waited till the weather got warmer in NYC to ensure we needed this service. Once the weather got nicer, we noticed more bugs and pest were coming and called Magic and immediately signed up for their services. They came, they sprayed (ok for pets!), job well done. We then notice rat dropping at the front entrance by the stairs of the house and called them back. They came by the next day and saw a hole under the steps and noticed it smelled like rat urine. They added traps and recommened we cover the hole. So far so good. Haven't seen any more rat droppings since.

Went well; the one mouse apparently on premises apparently ate bait and died.

I got the yearly plan with Magic Exterminating, so for a year I am covered. Their spray is safe for pets.

They provide a very good service. They were just very friendly and efficient.

I am very pleased with their service. Each one of the fellows that have came have been very polite and nice. Overall the service has been very good.

I called Magic Exterminating to schedule a free in-home estimate. I explained to the person over the phone that the attic that doesn't have a drop down stair case, only access through the ceiling. The representative (not a technician) showed up without a ladder and was never informed by the person who took my call that he would need one, so he could not even look at the attic. He had to call someone else at the company for an estimate, which would be over $4,000 if there was insulation in the attic. Since we don't have insulation I was told it would cost $2500 to vacuum squirrel droppings and spray disinfectant. I ended up calling another company and they gave me an estimate over the phone of only $375 for the same service. The estimate Magic Exterminating gave me is ridiculously high and I won't be using them. One of the owners of the company called me today (Sept. 27th) after seeing my review on Angie's List. He was not offering or asking me anything instead he was just reprimanding me which was unprofessional and made me feel very uncomfortable. He then called back later to apologize for what had happened with the estimate but did not apologize for the way he acted on the previous phone call. He then offered discounts if I wanted to take them up on there offer.

The technician was a nice young man who was very careful in his application of the agents. He worked around my elderly grandmother. He was a nice guy. I would use them again in the future.

My nephew called me while I was on vacation to tell me that there was a bug infestation in a second floor room near an outside terrace, with what he described as thousands of moving bugs. Since I had once had termites in the past, I was concerned about termite swarms and contacted two of the most highly rated exterminators servicing NYC-- Arrow and Magic, both of whom offered free quotes. Arrow scheduled an appointment for 8am to 10am but showed up just after 10am. Meanwhile, although I had seen the thousands of bugs the night before, in the morning, they had disappeared--without any trace, which meant, as I discovered by doing research, they could not have been swarming termites, although I was still concerned. The Arrow representative was professional in attitude and appearance. He carefully inspected the area outside the room, where the terrace had a crack in it. The Arrow rep said it was ants, as did the Magic rep later. The Arrow rep, however, recommended over $800 in treatment for the ants and said otherwise they would never go away. This seemed like a great deal of money to treat simple ants, and when I asked how long the service would take, he said an hour, but it included a short term guarantee they would not come back (he did offer, when I asked why he had not included it, the Angies list discount). He agreed, when asked, that they would not be causing any damage if not treated. Since I had not yet repaired the crack in the outside terrace, where there was moisture, it seemed to me that it was premature to do anything. The Magic rep was punctual and professional. He said it was not worth treating it all, and that when the terrace was fixed, it would take care of the problem and the ants. Instead, I thought what was the harm in going to Home Depot and buying a $2 spray can of raid and a $1 ant trap that claimed to offer bait poison that would be taken back to the nest outside. I sprayed, and the next morning, there were what felt like thousands of dead ants, and, of course, I sprayed outside into the area of the terrace crack where there was likely moisture. I can report that in the four weeks since then, I have had no ants at all. Therefore, I can commend the Magic serviceman, but wonder why the Arrow representative recommended such an expensive (and, to my way of thinking, overpriced for one hour of labor) service.

I told you above. What is this a final exam?

I would use their services again in the future.

I called 3 or 4 companies for an estimate and a Magic representative called me back right away and we set up a time for the initial consultation. They gave me the usual 4 or 5 hour window for arrival. I called the day of the appointment to see if they could give me a more specific time. I didn't think they would, but I was really hoping to not spend so long away from my office. The customer service rep asked me how long it took for me to get from my office back home (40 minutes). She then said she'd tell the sales rep to call when he was 40 minutes away. Brilliant. Sean, our sales rep who came by for the initial consultation was excellent and patient as he went through the exact services needed. A few days later, Vince our technician arrived promptly. Vince is amazing: so friendly and courteous and professional. I messed up the prep work that needed to be done and their response was: "no problem, we'll do what we can today and just reschedule the treatment for when you're ready." I highly recommend Magic.

On both visits (the preliminary evaluation and the actual work installing the termite-proofing), the technicians arrived exactly when they said they'd be there; I cannot tell you how much I appreciated not having to wait for hours, as I so often experience with other repair people. The evaluator, Ralph, really knows his stuff, and he really knows how to explain things to a non-professional. Bravo to him! The tech who installed the termite-proofing, Kevin, arrived even earlier (by a few minutes) than the appointed time and he worked quickly and efficiently at the task at hand. Before he left, he cleaned up where he had worked, although he did not make any mess that I could see. Bravo to him, too! I am so impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the Magic Pest Control team. I definitely would recommend them and, if the need arises, I'll call them before any other company. Not incidentally, the cost was lower than I had been expecting. It was, in every way, an excellent experience.

They are very responsive. They usually resolve the problem and explain the situation to us. They are very good. They resolve the issues. They are always available. I think they are a little pricey. I do not think they are competitively priced. I think based on the number of times they actually come here it is a little bit high. On the other hand, they have been very reliable so we know they are good. I would use them in the future if I needed to.

They knew what they were doing. They were very competent. The sales representative came in and explained everything before actually doing the exterminating. The exterminator was very thorough. I will use them in the future.

They were professional, easy to deal with and, best of all, we have no more termites!

Magic staff worked with us over several months to resolve a difficult bedbug situation, and they were always courteous and responsive, but in the end after 4 treatments they appeared to lose interest when the problem continued. Our downstairs neighbor had had bedbugs months before we did, and had treated them on her own over several months. This led to the suspicion that the bugs had scattered and were in the floor cavity between the two rooms. The response of the sniffer dog seemed to confirm this. Magic took extra steps beyond the regular treatment to spray into the walls and cavity and to ensure that bugs would find it difficult to enter the room from the cavity. They also treated the downstairs neighbor in conjunction with a treatment for us when the bugs reappeared in her room. She has had no further problems. When we continued to be bitten over the summer, we received a final treatment in September. Because earlier treatments had stained our floor and removed the finish in some places, there was no charge for this final treatment. Over the fall, we continued intermittently to be bitten; we never saw a bug, and I found none of the telltale traces in the bed, but every 3 or 4 days I had a bite or two. We had visits from a few Magic managers, one time to put out experimental traps, which never caught anything. We also had a phone call from their entomologist, who said that unless we saw traces, there was nothing more that could be done. During the most recent visit from their pest manager, who came to address a rodent problem elsewhere in the building a couple of weeks ago, I told him I was still having problems. He did a quick scan over the brick wall in our room, told me that there was no evidence of bugs, and said that if we really DID still have bugs, they would be a far greater presence after 4 months without treatment, and we would be experiencing more just the occasional bite. He suggested that possibly we had carpet beetles instead. A week later I finally found a mature active bedbug in the bed during one of my routine middle-of-the-night checks. I emailed the Magic manager who had just visited and asked what we should do next, reminding him of his recent visit and of our history. After no response for 9 days, I decided it was time to start fresh with someone new, and asked another company to come and inspect the site. After 5 minutes of carefully examining the wall behind the bed, he had found and with a toothpick pulled out 9 active bedbugs. No one at Magic, over these last months, had ever looked that carefully. I really liked dealing with the people at Magic, and feel sorry to have to report this. But if people are experiencing continued problems, it may be best to move on. The rating of "C" that I have given them does not really capture the experience. There were times when I would have rated them with an A, but the last few months were definitely a D.

I have been using their services for several years, and they are very reliable. They are very thorough and helpful, and it is kind of like a routine now, so it is very comfortable. The workers that show up are good. I pay about $200 a quarter. I would rate them highly and would continue to use them in the future.

They got rid of my pests and were timely and nice. They were cost effective, came out fairly quickly and got the job done. I will use them again in the future.

I had 3 companies come to do estimates. Magic seemed the most knowledgable and willing to educate me on the termite problem discovered. When Magic rep came to do estimate he said "we wouldn't be the cheapest" - and his quote was in the middle. I went w/Magic because they fully educated me on the procedure and just seemed more experienced. I've purchased an annual contract. Their price did include 1 trap installed in cement (which means they had to drill through cement and then replug). One other estimates did not include a cement install and the other estimate was a different system with them putting poison in the wood in house, much more costly.

It is $374 to start and then $75 a month. The quality of service is very good. They kept calling and switching appointments. They originally told me that they were going to come on a Saturday and on Saturday they told me that they were too booked. I have a feeling that they had squeezed someone in. The guys that come out to do it are really knowledgeable and pleasant. The guys are very professional and on time, but there’s a lot of jumping around with scheduling the appointments. It’s hard to clear the house and my puppies before they come. I would continue to use them in the future.
