Brian's team was very professional and put my mother at ease. I feel very comfortable recommending Affordable Solutions. When the job was done Brian and I shook hands, a trait I find lost on other individuals.
Description of Work: Updated kitchen, tore down ceiling and inspected for water damage. Reinsulated and installed new Sheetrock, ceiling fan and lights, painted the walls and ceiling. Removed water damaged ceiling from upstairs bedroom, corrected outdated insulation so that there is now proper air flow. Sheet rocked ceiling painted and trimmed room and installed new lighting.

+ -1 moreGenerally, it went well. His employee, Sean, did virtually all of the work was a terrific craftsman and extraordinarily hard worker. Pretty much non-stop? His ideas and suggestions were spot-on, and were very well done. The major problem was that the additional services were never the subject of an additional price quote - so, I kept careful records about the hours, and materials used for this portion of the project - and was quite surprised when I received the total - much higher than I expected. After going over my "self estimated" cost versus Brian's final tally, we came to an agreement on the reduced cost, and payment was made .

He took the time to explain what each job would entail (he gave us estimates on more items than we ended up doing), and provided the estimate in a timely manner. We didn't have the work done right away, and Brian did check in with us to make sure that we had received the quote, check to see if we had any questions, and follow up on any scheduling. No hard sell, just good customer service. There was one little problem with the basement patching, where his crew did part of the foundation in one color, and part in a different color. However, when we notified Brian, he promptly followed up and corrected it, and we were very satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: Patched and painted outside basement walls; fixed faucet leaks; patched hole in drywall.

My husband passed away in January so I am dealing with a lot of stuff on my own now and lot of people don’t like dealing with a woman. He did not give me a quote.

Description of Work: Brian arrived as expected and was eager to get to work. His job was to install a weathervane on our gazebo. He contacted the person who made the weathervane and both assembled and installed it in a short amount of time. This was important since we have no experience with weathervanes. It also insured that the assembly and installation were done properly. Additionally Brian was asked to install a window box, but declined due to the inappropriateness of the location. He was correct in this recommendation and it was appreciated. Finally, this organization was the only one who did not demand that you pay for 4 hours of work. We had planned for 4 hours, but did not need that amount of time. I would highly recommend this company and if you are lucky enough to get Brian, "you're in good shape."

+ -1 moreBrian and 2 workers did a great job from start to finish. They were happy to do a few additional things that we thought of along the way (the sump pump "box", install a mud sink, and built a washer/dryer platform) and even a couple of things we didn't think of initially (the trim in the laundry room and the water heater closet. As he was seeing the work unfold, Brian recommended that to make the laundry room look completely finished, we could add trim around the top and bottom. He also recommended building a doorway that separates the Heater from the rest of the laundry room and essentially hides it from the rest of the room. We agreed with both suggestions and asked them also to add some lights that we had purchased to the family room. Also, we didn't realize we were supposed to buy glue for the wallboards which apparently was pretty expensive. Add ons cost: a little over $2900 Brian and his guys couldn't have been nicer and I really love that Brian didn't just take our ideas, he and Jeremy actually offered their suggestions which helped our vision become everything that we wanted. Our previously unused downstairs has now become the family hang out. Brian also went over and above with a couple of things that came up unexpectedly and helped return some stuff Lowes in his truck, helped hook up new dryer, stuff like that. I wish I could post the before and after pix on this site - - both rooms came out absolutely beautiful and we are extremely happy that we chose Affordable Solutions by Brian to help us transform these spaces. It was evident that Brian stands by the work that they do and takes pride in the finished product. Although Jeremy did alot of the work himself (he was fantastic), Brian was on site at least once per day to check in on the work and actually helped power through some of it himself. The last couple of days Jason also came over from another job and helped ensure the work was done before our new furniture was delivered. Thanks for everything guys - we love it!
Description of Work: Our family room in the basement needed a remodel (floor, paneling) and we decided to do our laundry room as well which was adjacent. In the Family Room, we removed the 1/2 walls of paneling, all of the remaining old green and white tile, painted the walls and purchased the 12 boards of wainscoting, the laminate wood floors, a new solid pine door and the baseboards ourselves prior to Brian and his guys starting the work. We had just had a sump pump installed and after discussing it, Jeremy added a box around it with an access door and covered it in the wainscoting. Wasn't sure what to expect but the "box" is perfectly tucked into a corner of the family room and now looks like the perfect spot for a pretty lamp. Love it! In addition, Jeremy who was the main one at our house that first week, did a great job installing the sub floor that Brian provided, the laminate that we purchased, the insulation that Brian provided and put up the wainscoting that we purchased around the perimeter of the family room. Also installed the pine door (we purchased) and the trim (we purchased most but Brian provided the rest when we didn't buy enough). It looked like a whole different room. Cost $3582 + what we paid for door, hardware, wainscoting, baseboards, paint, and laminate flooring (approx $2000). The laundry room vision from us was to somehow make the 1/2 concrete walls (hideous green color) and dark brown paneling in the room look better. Wasn't sure if we could cover it or just paint it. It was a real eye sore, down to the electrical box that was sticking out from the wall. Brian's idea was to cover the walls in FRP or wall board that we could just wipe down and wouldn't have to paint. This would cover the concrete 1/2 walls and go all the way to the ceiling as well as cover the electrical box area for which they would install a door. He also had window frames built out and installed a laundry box, which we didn't have. We talked also about doing the floors in the laminate but we decided against it for now due to the additional cost. It wasn't in the original estimate although we had said we either didn't want a mud sink or we wanted a new one - weren't sure which at the time. We ended up buying a really nice mudsink with cabinet from lowes for $200 and they installed and plumbed it as part of the add-ons below.

+ 1 moreHe's reliable, and shows up when he says he's going to, which in my experience is unusual with contract workers land he does what he says he's going to do for the price he says he's going to do it for. In general, the bathroom looked good and I left a house key with him and went on vacation and he was totally trustworthy, which is a big deal Construction work was good, paint job was so so. On the down side, he made a couple mistakes - putting faucets in backwards so they were nearly impossible to turn on and off and he put my grab bar back in the shower way too low. On the plus side, he did come back and fix both of those problems (though the grab bar meant we had to come up with stuff to put in where he'd put it, since there were now holes in the surround). I would use him again, because he was trustworthy, reliable, did the job when he said he would and made a great effort to fix his mistakes, but if I needed detail work for things I use regularly (like faucets or grab bars), I'd probably want to be there when he does them so I can be sure they're right.
Description of Work: bathroom remodeling - remove and replace bathtub surround, new sink, new closet door, take out damaged wood around tub and replace with drywall and trim. I also had him do the painting.

+ -1 moreWhen our bathroom toilet leaked into our dining room ceiling, we needed someone to come over quickly for insurance reasons to look into any structural damage for insurance purposes. We were heading out on vacation in the next week, and Brian came over immediately to help us out where most contractors would not have gotten to us for over a month. He provided great and honest recommendations for what he could and would be able to do with our 100 year old house, really taking into consideration that we might want to keep the integrity of the old house as a whole. In the end, after multiple looks and estimates from many companies, we opted to have Brian and his crew work with us and re-do our dining room ceiling. We went on our vacation and once we came back, he got to our ceiling within about a month - if we had not been traveling, he would have been able to do the work almost immediately. Still, a month wait was nothing compared to what we were quoted by everyone else who had estimated for us. While Brian wasn't terribly less expensive than most companies, he provided a much more thorough estimate, and walked us both through exactly what he would be doing from start to finish. He was the only person who even suggested to us how he would go about any mold removal/prevention, given that we had a water leak in an older home. Many other companies didn't have any idea what to tell me with regard to that. Although Brian himself didn't not perform the remodeling for us, his crew did a great job, and I felt comfortable with everyone who came into our house. Given that we have a small child, the crew respected our need for some silence during naps, and did a great job keeping dust, etc. out of the rest of the house. They were timely, and when the ceiling was completed and they were unhappy with a small portion of their work, they took care of it before we had to even ask about it. In my contact with Brian afterwards, I found payment to go very smoothly, as well. We would definitely recommend Brian to others, and in our future updates to our older house, we will most likely contact him without even going to anyone else for estimates.

Description of Work: Brian's work performed on this day was to enter our attic crawl space, remove a non-functioning exhaust fan in our main bathroom, installed a new junction box in the attic and extended wire due to location of wiring in new unit. He also purchased and brought the new fan with him for the installation. We totally trusted what he would purchase for us on our behalf. Due to the water stains that we had on the ceiling directly surrounding the fan vent, he used Kilz cover up paint before completely re-painting our bathroom ceiling with new white paint.

+ -1 moreAffordable Solutions by Brian did an okay job. I wouldn't bring him back again. The cementing that he did is already crumbling around the walls. There may be other areas that he does well in, I just wouldn't recommend him for cement. He likes to talk a lot.
Description of Work: We used Affordable Solutions by Brian for concrete. He had to go around and put a layer of concrete around the bottom of the house, below the siding, and smooth it out.
