Northside Company

Overall, Northside did an excellent job. Work was completed in a timely and efficient manner and the company was careful to protect the house and landscaping. There was only one job related misstep and the company accepted responsibility. The problem was thoroughly corrected promptly and professionally. Workers were respectful of property, courteous and approachable. Josh, the general project supervisor, a professionals professional, was a pleasure to work with. The estimate was accurate. The contract was detailed and fair. Craftsmanship while unexceptional, was acceptable. Some minor damage to gutters and incomplete post job cleanup was noted, but quickly and completely corrected when brought to the company's attention. Altogether, a responsible, responsive and ethical company. We would recommend Northside to our friends and neighbors without reservation.

I got them from Angie's List and they were highly recommended. My experience with them was dissatisfactory. The job was done good, don't get me wrong, but the problem was they changed crews three times on me. Then it took them three years to complete it; there were a few things they did not complete. To this date I still have not gotten the final bill that I paid in full and that everything has been resolved. None of my warranties have I received. I received blank paper. The guy I was dealing with was a guy named Marshall, he was the main salesman. He left and left me hanging. When I tried to reach him several times he finally said for me to just call Northside and have them give me my final bill and the warranties. So I was left hanging and am very frustrated. I haven't dealt with it yet. The final crew that got here was headed up by a guy named Gary and they did a wonderful job on the siding. He and his partner were very enthusiastic, worked very hard and did a great job. The gentleman who installed my windows did a beautiful job and did a great job as well. I am satisfied with the work; I am dissatisfied with the other attentions that should have been paid. It took three years to complete a one year job. They kept having to come back and come back. The workers in the first two crews I was not too thrilled with. It was just a bad experience in that aspect. The personal aspect of it was lacking. This remodel was for my daughter's house and she has special needs so the warranties are important. I wanted to put a new porch on too and I wanted to continue, but I elected not to because of that. The workers were excellent.

We contacted Northside after having had them do our roof in late '14 (complete tear-off) because they were great to work with and did an excellent job. We'd worked with Sal when doing the roof but his partner, Marshall handled siding work. Marshall provided us a very thorough quote and after some back and forth on the price we reached an agreement. The work began not long after that. One disappointing thing was that after Marshall collected the balance of the money we never saw or heard from him again and that was before the job was completed - no inspection of the work the siders did or anything. He did, however, contact us by phone after the job was completely done to tell us he'd moved to another company. Not the classiest move. The work done was good. The house looks great and we're very happy with the final product, however the guys left a fair amount of garbage in their wake. Tons of cigarette butts, pieces of siding (small and med. sized), old siding, nails, etc. Marshall had bragged on his siders and their work was nice but they were not very neat about it. By contrast the roofers practically combed our grass to ensure not a nail or piece of roofing was left behind. Overall I would recommend Northside and Sal, if we need further work on our house they'll be the ones I call first.

They arrived early and were working within minutes of arriving. They protected both our doors and windows, and my gardens. In spite of some record heat they worked very hard at the main roof tear off with layers of shingles. We have tongue and grove on the main house, and plywood sheathing on the addition. Both of them look fantastic!. They also took a look at our sky lights and added a little calking for no charge. The job cost just what they had bid on the job with no extras (even though they warned us if the decking needed to be replaced, it would cost extra.) The crew was courteous, and very patient about answering our questions. They cleaned up after themselves, and even swept the sidewalk! They also honored the coupon for Angies list, and saved us $250.00! We will definitely be using them for other projects that we have planned for the future.

Very knowledgeable about roofing products and their quality and lifetime. New roof installed quickly and professionally. Clean up done to our satisfaction. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. Great job!

I was dissatisfied with their work. I had an underlying problem that they did not address and they gave me the impression they had. I ended up with warranty work through the builder. There were problems getting that addressed. I got them involved and I don't believe he was listening. I wouldn't go back to them. There was a problem with a leak from the roof line that had to do with flashing. They sided over wood that had to be replaced. I was assured by the worker that all the wood was dry underneath the siding and it wasn't. I ended up getting the money they charged me back from the builder. There was a communication breakdown with the builder and there was a communication breakdown with Northside. Thankfully, the builder kicked in, based on me moving forward with them again. They weren't paying attention.

Employee was unprofessional and rushed. Spent half an hour on the job and did not remove most of the ice and snow. Also company did not provide a bill for the work despite many requests

Sal was super responsive, quick to answer calls and clear in his evaluations and estimates. Work was begun on schedule and completed ahead of expected timeline. Careful work and immaculate clean up, respectful and quick work on our old historic house.

I called Northside and Sal Barbieri (owner) responded promptly. Sal came and gave me a printed estimate on all the jobs requested ON THE SPOT - very impressive. He patiently answered all the trivial questions my wife and I asked. I had talked to 2 other contractors afterwards but came back to Northside for 3 reasons. First was the simplicity in negotiation. The prices were similar but there were some notable differences. Unlike the other 2, I negotiated directly with owner (buck stops with him) and got the answer on the spot. I didn't have to hear a long explanation behind pricing followed by "have to talked to the owner and come back to you" speech from the sales guys. I understand the sales guys have to make commission but that doesn't justify they had to charge more. Second was the price. There were some subtle differences in features but I found Northside estimate being the best for the value. I tried to get other 2 contractors to beat Northside's estimate but all I got was a lot of sob stories. Third was the warranty on the workmanship. Northside had 10 year warranty which I found out the first day on the written estimate. Other 2 guys didn't and told me "if the job is done right, you shouldn't have to worry about things breaking after few years". That is a pretty good excuse but I believe that if the contractor is confident with the workmanship, it should be no problem to stand behind the work for 10 years. Roofing didn't go as scheduled due to finicky weather we had in the beginning of October. Luckily we hit a stretch of few days when summer weather came back. To my surprise, roofing crew came and was done with the job in ONE day. The crew was very pleasant and polite. The clean-up around the house looked very good. There was a little mess left over in the garage but it was no big deal. The crew covered over the box vents over the added room next to the garage instead of replacing them. It was caused by a miscommunication. Northside fixed that the very next day. Overall experience on the roofing was excellent. Wrapping soffit and fascia didn't go as smoothly. We had a few rainy days and the crew consisted of just one guy. It took about a week but it was good to see the improvement afterwards. One bulb of the floodlights on the backside of the house broke after he fixed his original re-installation. I took it as an acceptable loss. Gutters were installed by a speedy 2-man crew some days later. They came and got it done in a few hours. My wife and I were very pleased with the experience. There was a few hitches due to miscommunication and weather but I suppose this is normal. I thought everything went very smoothly. This was our first time hiring a major contractor and I do believe hiring Northside was the reason why it went so smoothly. I would highly recommend them for roofing.

Exceeded expectations, we would highly recommend this company! When we made the decision that it was time to replace the siding on our home, we knew that the most important part of the process would be choosing a dependable contractor. We referred to Angie's List from the start because of the unbiased reviews it provides. As soon as we began to read the reviews for Northside we had a strong feeling that this would be the company for us, and when we sat down to discuss our project with Marshall, our hunch was confirmed. Marshall's experience and creative vision gave us the ability to transform our house into everything we hoped it would be. We had an idea of what we wanted our house to look like upon completion, but we were unsure of how the different siding types and colors would work on our house that was built in 1983 in a "faux Tudor" style. Using Marshall as our guide, we were able to move forward throughout the process with confidence that the choices we were making would work well and give us the exact look we were going for. Marshall was there for us every step of the way, and promptly returned texts and phone calls when we had questions. After the decision process was complete and the work started, our experience with Northside only grew more positive. From the very first day when Lorne and his crew began their work, they were prompt, respectful, and they seemed happy to be working on our house. But most importantly they were capable! The skill they exhibited from start to finish shows through in the final product and we could not be happier. The team worked well together, they were efficient and careful, paying great attention to the little details that matter most. It is apparent that they take great pride in their work and wanted our house to look as good as we wanted it to. Marshall remained present during the work phase as well, stopping by several times to make sure we were happy with the progress. Even now, 2 months later as I am driving up to our house I still think "wow, I can't believe this is our house.", and on Halloween night when our neighbors came to our door, it was great to hear the kids say "trick-or-treat" and their parents say "house looks great, by the way!" ...now that is the best review one can get!!!

The roof is leaking. They say it is not their fault. However, we pointed out during the estimate phase what the problem was and now it is even worse. They say it will cost us to make the necessary repairs. The construction crew (sub-contractors) complained the whole time they were here that they was not treated fairly by the owner.

It went great. Sal Barbari came over, checked out the roof and gave us an estimate. We approved the estimate and he was able to schedule the work for a week later. His crew came over and started work around 8:00AM and had it all done by 6:30PM. (We have a small home 1040sq ft). They cleaned up after themselves and you would never know they were here. It was a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend you give them a chance to work with you.

roofing insulation and gutters went well, siding went ok have one issue with the roof, a few issues with the siding and can not seem to get the proper action from this company to resolve these issues.

I was very dissappointed with this company. I arranged to have someone come to my home and give me an estimate to tear off and re-shingle the roof over my great room. The rep showed up, looked at the job and said it was too small and he wouldn't do it. If you don't have a $15,000 to $20,000 job don't bother calling them. They will just waste your time.

After seeing Northside Roofing's high ratings here, I called and left a message with Sal. He called back fairly quickly and we set up a time to meet a few days later. He never showed up for the meeting and never returned my subsequent call.

Very professional. Sal was very courteous and helpful in his estimate and the price was very reasonable considering the state of the roof and what was needed to put it right. The crew were punctual, professional, polite and did a great job, pointing out any problems or concerns they ran into. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up and the roof now looks great. I was very happy with the results and would definitely recommend them.

Marshall was incredible, we chose Northside because of him. He was knowledgeable and extremely responsive with any questions we had during the quote process - this was significantly different from other companies we talked to. Their price was line with several others, so no real difference there. The work itself took a VERY long time, almost a full month. The siding and trim came out great, however it was very slow progress given the hours kept. The state of the our lawn and flower beds was a complete wreck for the month, "clean-up" at the end of the day was spotty at best. The front porch came out okay, I would put it in the good enough category but I was a bit disappointed in the end result. The initial building of the steps was done incorrectly with non uniform step sizes, mismatching color for the rises etc - after speaking with the crew, although they were EXCEPTIONALLY angry they did a good job fixing everything such that it was okay. There are still some unsightly gaps that were required to make the steps uniform sized but I can slap a potted plant in key locations to deal with it - and at some point we may re-board it to correct the issues. I also didn't enjoy having to shut my windows and doors though for a full day so my kids would not hear the non-stop swearing that ensued after the porch discussion. The other recommendation I would have is to have every detail spelled out in the contract you sign - even if it seems like you are going overboard, get it in writing - # of shutters, any special wrapping/trim, color of gable vents, any railings, color of mount plates, color of decking, etc because it could be months between the discussions you have about what is included and when the work begins - so better for everyone if it is documented. Overall, my review is mixed - I love the end result, the house came out great. I think if I had to do it again though I might have a deck building company do the front porch prior to having the siding done and would just have Northside do the siding/gutters which is their core competency.

Northside did a great job. The salesman Marshal was friendly and knowledgeable. He worked with us and explained what was needed in detail. The crew that came out and did the work, I believe the foreman was Heath, did a great job. It looks fantastic. They worked hard, even had to stay late when they ran into some unexpected problems caused by the leak in order complete the work in one day. They found where our leak was coming from and replaced all the flashing around both chimneys. The overall cost was less than anyone else that I had estimates from. I am very please with how it turned out and I would gladly have Northside do more work for me in the future.

It was excellent in every way, they were neat, clean, friendly.

Tear off and installed new architectural shingles. Sal was very professional, courteous, and honest individual to work with. The price is reasonable among quotes and no extra charge for skylight. Applied Angie's list coupon with no issues. The crew was punctual, stayed on the job, worked very hard and cleaned up every day. I'm glad called Sal and changed the color at the last second. The new roof is beautiful. I would use them again in the future, and would recommend them to neighbors and friends.

I called about a specific roof leak problem; Sal was very responsive and stopped by the day after I called. He did an inspection of the roof and recommended a significant repair (tear off and replace shingles and flashing) for the problem area (6' x 6') for $850. He also said that a new roof would be around $7K and said I could do the small section for $850 or the whole roof for $7K and thought the roof condition would be presenting additional problems sooner than later. Doing due diligence I got another estimate that recommended sealing only for the problem area and offered an opinion that the roof still had 5-10 years life left. This is my perspective only but I felt like Sal was most interested in selling a complete new roof. That aside, he was friendly and professional.

The roof installation went well. The roof installers were mostly quite professional. Their clean up was acceptable. We cleaned up a significant amount of debris around the yard after they completed the job and there was some damage to our landscaping and to our slate sidewalk. Sal said they used a magnet to remove all of the nails from our yard, however we continue to find hundreds of nails in our yard. The roof looks good. Beginning 2-10-15 and lasting several days we had multiple roof leaks that caused major damage to the ceilings, walls and floors of our new kitchen, den, master bedroom and front entryway. We called Northside at 8 AM that morning and were told that someone would be out to our house to remedy the problem at 12:30 PM. No one arrived and no one returned our numerous telephone calls and email messages on 2-10-15. Sal responded by email the morning of 2-11-15, a day later, and said he would send someone out. No one from Northside Roofing ever came to our house to help mitigate the problem despite numerous follow-up calls. We filed an insurance claim and have had multiple contractors to the house to repair all of the damage. The repairs will not be complete until the end of the summer. On 4-16-15, Sal came with a GAF representative to inspect the internal damage and the roof. After inspecting the roof, he indicated that the water damage was due to ice damming where the horizontal parts of the roof abutted the vertical parts of the house (dormers, etc.) and that the roof and water/ice shielding had been installed properly and that there was nothing he could do to solve the problem. (When talking with Sal about the project before Northside provided us with their bid, we asked him to do everything possible with the GAF ice and water and shield to prevent leaks, including running the shield from the verticals to the roof in key places.) Further, he indicated that the problem could recur in future winters. This was a very disappointing answer. We had a very good impression of Northside from Angie's List ratings and during the estimate process and the installation and Sal has always been very professional, but after less than 18 months, our new roof leaked in multiple places throughout the house causing significant damage. The previous roof never did that. And our neighbor's roofs (similar style houses built by the same builder) did not leak this winter. Given this, we are not convinced that our roof was installed properly. This has cost us tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of our time to repair the damage. We are contemplating next steps.

Great! Very happy with the work!

I had several estimates and I found their estimate to be average. They did a great job and treated everybody good. They made sure that there wasn't going to be any problem. They were in and out and cleaned up in a day.
