The emails back and forth were very polite and helpful but the person face to face just never happened. They said they would show up and just never came.
Description of Work: They came out and said they would come out the next day. I stayed home from work and told them to give me a call if they wouldn't show up. They never even called.

Description of Work: We had a spot at the foot of the basement stairs that was like a mini lake, and there were other damp spots throughout the basement that was causing mustiness and mildewing of boxes, etc that were stored there. We got estimates from 3 different contractors who all had very different ways of approaching the problem as well as huge differences in prices. We weren't happy with any of the three, but after a little research, we figured out what made sense to us. One contractor refused to change his approach, and one made some minor changes but the plan still was unacceptable. However, Tom and Jon Kelley listened to our comments, then made a second trip from Binghamton to discuss the project. They were completely flexible and came up with a new proposal that fit our needs exactly. The plan was to trench around the outside walls, installing a drain line that ran to a sump pump in one corner of the basement. There was a second drain line and pump in the back part of the basement dedicated to draining the mini lake we had in that area. They scheduled a 4 day job, but got their part done in 3, and then the electrician came in for half a day to make the final connections. The fellows who did the work were both fairly young, very polite and respectful, and cleaned up thoroughly each day after work. I couldn't believe how clean the basement was after they spent a day jack-hammering out portions of the concrete floor. The place was cleaner than when they arrived. It has been a month now, and there is no longer a lake in the basement. There are still a few damp looking spots in the middle of the floor where water is apparently seeping up through the old concrete, but the basement no longer smells musty. I was hesitant to put sump pumps in the basement because of the noise, but these models are super quiet. I heard one run for the first time just yesterday. The only downside is that we felt the job was a little pricey. However, we got what we wanted and are very pleased with the results, so would recommend this company to others.

The whole process was painless and even exciting at times. The entire crew was both professional and friendly. Tom and Jon were very open to our concerns and suggestions and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that we were satisfied. The project took six full days, which were performed consecutively. It was an amazing transformation in a relatively short period of time. If I have any crawlspace, basement or foundation work to be done in the future, I will certainly be giving Southern Tier Basement Systems a call.
Description of Work: Complete crawlspace renovation - clean-out, insulation, and encapsulation. This was a large undertaking at my house because the crawlspace was a huge mess. We have a very peculiar foundation that is 1/2 trailer framework and 1/2 conventional floor joists. The underside of the trailer portion still had large tattered swaths of the original insulation blanket, which had become a palatial nesting area for many rodents. Also, the original trailer axles and tongue were still in the crawlspace. Tom and his crew removed all this debris, dismantling and extracting all the unneeded rusting steel components through the crawlspace windows. Once all the cleaning out was complete, the crew got to work insulating, sealing, installing a sump drain pipe, replacing cracked blocks and many other tasks in preparation for the encapsulation. Finally they performed the encapsulation itself, which, in concert with the previous work, turned the crawlspace from a moldy, mildew, rodent infested pit of despair into a tidy, cleanly, accessible space that no longer invokes dread at the thought of venturing down there.

Contractor didn't show up. I phoned his cell phone several times (to see if he had forgotten or been delayed). I also texted him. Then I called his office and left a voice message. I called the next day to see if we could reschedule. Left a voice message. I've tried calling several times since then and have not heard back. I hope he is OK. It just seems someone should have responded to a missed appointment in a week's time. I have moved on and found another company.
Description of Work: I called to see if they provide services in my area and was told yes. This was regarding a foundation and/or drainage problem which was causing water to leak into a residential basement. Contractor set the time and date to meet at the property to inspect and offer solution to the problem.

The entire job took 3.5 days to complete. I feel like their attention to detail was excellent, demonstrated by their willingness to not always do something the easiest or fastest way. For example, the sump pump drain pipe was set up to go through the crawlspace and out of the back of the house instead of just a short distance out of the side of the house. Along the same lines, they were meticulous about keeping the area neat and clean which impressed me quite a lot. They also fixed issues that popped up along the way such as lowering my laundry tub and adding a P-trap to it. I'm excited about the new flooring which I hope will keep the basement warmer in the winter months and also greatly reduce the damp feeling associated with the old concrete floor as well. They were polite and professional and I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Installed sump pump, crawl space encapsulation, replaced 4 basement windows, and installed Thermaldry basement flooring. Also installed a proper dryer exhaust pipe vented to the outside and blocked off a window in the crawlspace.

expected. Cannot believe how blessed we were to find them and we found them because of Angie's List. Thank You!
Description of Work: Cannot say enough. They were responsive, kind, respectful, and extremely hard working guys. We had a huge crack in foundation of our home and they have taken care of that for years to come. Their work is guaranteed for 5-6 years and we would call them again in a heart beat if ever needed. Besides all the diligent work, they were total professionals in how they took care of venting the dust and dirt and then cleaning up afterwards to a degree a we never

The company provided excellent service. The technicians arrived on time and completed the work in about 2 hours. The work looks professional and they provide a 5 yr warranty on the work. Not sure about price as I only got their estimate. Would recommend them and would use them again.

First of all, the contractor's name is Tom. Jon is his son. The job went well, we think. At least so far. Since the installation of the sump pump, we've had yet another heavy rain. The pump turned on and pumped effectively for about four hours. The basement stayed dry. There are several things that impressed us about Tom. First, we called him on Friday morning right after a torrential storm and a flooded basement. He made arrangements to come to our home that Friday evening after work. He was working 1.5 hours away. He surveyed the job and then agreed to do the sump pump installation on Sunday! If he hadn't been so responsive we would have had another flood, because the next heavy rain came Monday night. Tom and his son showed up Sunday morning, as promised and worked for about seven hours. Installing a sump pump is a messy job, but we would have been almost unaware of their presence had we not also been working in the basement cleaning up from last week's storm. They carried out all the debris (stone, concrete, etc.) through a basement window and carried in their tools, supplies and the pump the same way. They showed great consideration for our house and property and made what would have been a terribly disruptive job almost painless. We'll be calling Tom for the annual maintenance check on the sump pump, as he recommends, and wouldn't hesistate to hire him and Jon for another job.
Description of Work: Tom installed a triple sump pump in our recently flooded basement.
