We had a very old oil fired boiler that needed to be replaced and made the decision to convert to natural gas. After considering a number of contractors, we went with Phoenix and could not be happier. There was a lot of coordination needed, which was handled smoothly with the City and Con Edison. They are attentive, honest and the job was done well. Highly recommended.

Jon and Matt at Phoenix did a great job for me. Everyone was on time, extremely responsive and did quality work. Permitting/Inspections were done in a timely fashion and the process was thoroughly explained to me so I knew what to expect. Happened faster than I imagined. Will definitely use them again in the future.

We just moved to the area but heard great things about Phoenix. We could not have been happier with the results. The team was on time, super nice and fast, and explained everything really well. Phoenix did an excellent job from start to finish. They installed 2 Daikin condensing units outside and 7 units inside my 50-year old house. Their recommendation on how to provide the whole house with a/c using mini-splits worked out great. I can use if for heat too! The installation was fast and is beautiful--the conduit they used is barely noticeable and they took every opportunity to find places to run it where it wouldn't be seen, like the basement. Lastly, they handled the permitting process from permit to final inspection. System works great. Great team to work with at Phoenix. I thought the price was very competitive. Highly recommend them.

We got estimates from 6 companies to replace our broken Veissman combi boiler. Phonex not only gave the best price but was the most knowledagble about what needed to be done. Their work is immaculate. Even the town inspector was impressed and thanked them for making his inspection easy! Highly recommended!

Excellent. Work was completed without a hitch. All staff, from the consultant to the technicians to the electrician; were friendly and professional. Installers were very neat and cleaned up any dust or dirt. I was a bit worried about my hardwood floors getting scratched, but they had that covered! drop cloths were used. 2 technicians completed the install in just under 2 days. ( I have a flat ranch house-ducts were put in the attic.) Electrician came afterwards for less than a day. (4-5 hours?) Also very efficient and neat workers. Corteous and professional. Each time an appointment was scheduled, they were on time. And work completed as scheduled. I also liked the fact that we paid them in three increments. I dont like paying for something in full before I get it. Overall , a very good experience. I would highly recommend Pheonix Mechanical. I plan to hire them again for projects I have planned for my home.

Very happy with Phoenix. From the start, they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable on the phone. Once we decided on the work to be done, they were able to give me a quote for the install over email from pictures of the existing furnace/area. I very much appreciated not having to take time away from work to meet them to do the estimate. Furthermore, their price was very reasonable (much less than my old company), and they were able to schedule it very quickly on the one day I had off. The install itself went well. They re-routed the water line to the humidifier in a very clean way, which I appreciated. It was a long install (4+ hours I think), so I guess they must have missed a connection in the wiring, which meant it wasn't able to active the fan. I let them know after a few days that it wasn't fully working, and they came back the next morning to fix it. It's worked perfectly since. Look forward to using Phoenix again in the future.

Everything went exceptionally well. Before we even chose Phoenix, Jonathan was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He responded to all inquiries in a very timely manner. I truly felt at ease throughout the entire process. I expected his quote to be higher than the previous HVAC company we used but the cost ended up being about $2000 less. We were able to schedule the work quickly and the crew was phenomenal. You could tell that they take great pride in their work and that they get the job done right. Jonathan also gave some good news that we would receive a credit through NYSERDA because we installed energy efficient units in addition to rebates through Con Edison. Larry handled that piece and was also a pleasure to work with. Upon completion of the job, both Jonathan and Larry came back to inspect the work and check carbon monoxide levels, etc. A small issue was uncovered and Jonathan scheduled another technician to come back to make the repair at no additional cost. I now have a new HVAC company that I feel like I can trust.

This company and its employees are top notch. They were professional, punctual, clearly knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. They were able to make suggestions about the installation and size of the units that made perfect sense. When we needed the units that were already installed serviced they arrived on time, explained what kind of ongoing maintenance they needed and what of those tasks we could do. Would hire them again in a heartbeat.

The person they sent out a few days later insisted my problem was due to the condenser being dirty. I explained the history and objected, but went along with the tech and let him wash the condenser with a chemical solution. He was a bit condescending suggesting I had been negligent in maintaining the equipment and there was years of debris in the condenser coils- In fact I had his company perform the same service 10 months earlier when they were out for the same issue the previous summer. After cleaning the coils he checked the system and insisted the pressures were correct - and left for his next appointment. We shut the unit off but a few days later when we needed the AC we had the same problem. When I called to have someone come back I was told they were booked the rest of the week but they would get back to me when they set the schedule for the next week with a time. I called 8 days later and was told that they were very busy and it would be a 5 week wait. That should have been my queue to find someone else. Four weeks later they called and told me I could either accept an appointment the very next day (which I couldn't make) or I would have to wait another week (which would have made 7 weeks after the initial call). I let my frustration get the better of me and the conversation went downhill quickly from there - we ended up parting ways. Aftermath: I had another company come out a few days later that had been highly recommended. They checked all the lines with two different electronic leak detectors and found that the system was leaking from the service ports. They told me the valves had been overtightened and crushed, and that given the problems I was having, the service port caps should have been replaced with ones that included rubber seals. They also confirmed my original thoughts that while the condenser being dirty would force the compressor to work harder, it would not have created the symptoms I was experiencing- something I verified elsewhere. My Conclusion: These guys are ok as installers, and have proven to me they can handle obvious problems like a blown out controller board or a burnt out fan motor, but they failed to demonstrate that they have the skills to troubleshoot problems that are less than obvious. In the past they had been responsive, but the fact that they expected me to think it was OK to wait almost two months for a follow up service call because they were "busy" suggests they are either arrogant beyond all reason or simply don't have access to individuals with the experience, tools and expertise necessary to support more complex issues with the systems they install.
Description of Work: Phoenix had installed my system a few years ago and have been the only company to work on the unit since. I had them out on a few occasions to do warranty work. Three years ago we started having issues with refrigerant leaking - when we turned the unit on in the spring it would run for an hour with cool air and then stop blowing cold air (freezing up due to low refrigerant), but after adding a couple of pounds of refrigerant it would be fine for the season. They also injected leak detector into the system, but were never able to find a leak. This year we checked the system on the first warm day in April and found the same problem. I called immediately to have them out again to try and find the leak and to recharge AC.

The customer called during our busiest time of year to trouble shoot a refrigerant leak. Our schedule was full but since we had done an installation for him, we told him we could come out the NEXT day. We had to shift other appointments to to accommodate this, but the customer did not want an appointment for the next day. He then proceeded to verbally abuse our staff member using profanities beginning with the letter F. As much as we value our customers, which we do, we place equal value on Phoenix employees who are the primary reason for our success. We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior and one of the owner's of Phoenix spoke with the home owner explaining that we would not be able to service his home anymore. He was not happy with that and implored us to reconsider. We declined and thought we had respectfully parted ways. Some time had passed until the above fabricated review appeared on Angie's List. I encourage all Angie's List viewers to look at our previous review for a true representation of the type of service Phoenix provides.

Phoenix is my go to HVAC contractor. I use them at my investment properties as well as my home. I used them for an energy audit. They are responsive. They are good at diagnosis and fixing. Most importantly, they are reasonable people that are clearly just trying to do it right. I plan to continue to use them going forward for all projects ranging form maintenance to installations.

It went well. The only problem was regarding pricing. Since repairs were done immediately I asked for an estimate and the plumber that came over basically had no idea what it would. We met with Jon to review our needs and he provided us with an estimate. We got six or seven other estimates as well. When we narrowed it down to two companies, Jon happily agreed to come back out to answer several other specific questions we had. After signing the contract with Phoenix, an installation appointment was scheduled at our convenience within a reasonable period of time. Alex, our main installer, was here every day and was always happy to answer any questions we had. After installation was complete, we had a few issues with the app we had chosen to control the system with. Jon never lost patience with my questions, and worked with me until the issue was resolved to my satisfaction, even though the problems were really Mitsubishi issues, not installer issues. I appreciate that Jon wanted me to be completely satisfied with the whole system and I can't say enough about his customer service.

When I called to schedule the appointment I described the problem and I was given a diagnosis of either (a) a leaky pipe or (b) condensation from the humidity. Terrific. That made sense. The day of my appointment was the first cool day in August and the AC was not running. I described the issue to the repair guy. He ran water through the pipes to see if there was a leak - no leak. He said there was nothing else he could do because there was no water dripping from the pipes and he could not tell where it might be coming from. I would need to call him back when it was hot and humid. I paid $177. After he left I realized that he never tried to run the AC. I turned the temp down to 50 and got the AC running. After 30 min I felt the pipes and they were Ice cold. The problem was absolutely condensation. I felt kind of cheated so called the company to explain, as politely and friendly as possible, that I wish the repair guy and tried to test the AC itself and/or insulated the pipes since that was the diagnosis I was given. I would have happily paid to have the guy to insulate the pipes so I could rest easy. She listened and told me she would speak with the owner to get their impressions and she would call me back. I never heard back. It has been 2 months. The weather has been cool. We're not running the AC, so the drip is not occurring and the BR door frame has reduced in swelling. I am heading off to Home Depot to purchase some pipe insulation and do this myself. I will not shell out another $177 for them to come back.
Description of Work: I called them because I found water dripping from my attic HVAC pipes. This dripping water was found (unfortunately) after the leak had gone on long enough to bow the door frame of our MBR to the point where we could not close the door.

Larry visited our place and gave us a honest estimate for replacing our old furnace from the 80's. for a Carrier unit. We requested same quote to other two vendors, but Larry's one was the best. We took into consideration the price (of course) and also that he was grounded answering our questions, and direct in his communication. They were working at home a couple of days, one to replace the furnace and another to fix some plumbing issues, and all seems to be working well. No issues, professional people. Highly recommended

Just scheduling an appointment to meet with Phoenix for an estimate was a red flag. Jon, the owner, apparently, is rarely in the office and did not provide a cell phone contract. Accordingly, we had to negotiate our respective schedules via email exchanges. After Jon rescheduled our appointment once, he showed up with an associate for one hour survey of my house and property prior to offering an estimate/proposal to convert to geo-thermal. But they spent a big chunk of our meeting trying to sell a ductless system instead, an option I told them was not on the table. Just to move the meeting forward, I eventually agreed to review a proposal for ductless along with the proposal for geothermal. At the end of our meeting, he promised a written proposal and estimate via email within a week. That deadline came and went with a vague excuse that he needs more time to get prices. After missing another self-imposed deadline, I inquired via email if he had sent the proposal. That was two months ago. He still has not given me the courtesy of a reply. (Angie’s review process requires entering a number in the “amount paid” field before submitting the review. It would not accept N/A (not applicable). So the $500 amount I entered does not represent any amount I paid to them. It represents a rough estimate of how much of my valuable time they wasted.) Based on their Angie’s list reviews, I would have considered them for my central A/C maintenance and other work even if I don’t proceed with the geothermal. The owner’s lack of professionalism and courtesy eliminated them from consideration.

While we do our best to assist home owners in directing them as to an appropriate and practical solution for their home heating and cooling needs, sometimes our recommendations are not in line with home owner expectations. We came out to this home with the home owner expressing a desire for a geothermal heating and cooling system. We felt that that this home was not a good application for geothermal and recommended an alternate solution, air source heat pumps. To be absolutely clear, we came out on a FREE estimate and did not charge the home owner anything for the visit. Phoenix Mechanical

This review is overdue and should not go unnoticed. This family run company was a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend them. Price point may be in the higher spectrum but they give you the quality, care and attention it commends. All permits were done properly and closed out accordingly. While the review shows date of service as Dec 2015, we really spent the whole year with these guys, most of it being Summer 2015. We engaged Larry back in Feb 2015 for a Home Energy Audit which lead us to inquiring about separating our heating systems. The house was 1 zone heated, using baseboard heating, and it was controlled by the 1st floor unit. Being an owner occupied house, where we live on the 2nd floor and our tenant lives on the 1st floor, this was becoming a nightmare in terms of Con Ed bill splits and climate comfort of both units, plus the boiler was 40 plus years old, and the hot water tank was at least 15 years old, while they both worked well, we wanted to be pro-active rather than be re-active should either fail at a moments notice. We sprung for the High Efficiency units as indicated in the above section and separated everything! Each unit is now on their own gas line, thus each has their own Con Ed Bill and each unit can control their own heat now, it's a wonderful thing. We also treated ourselves (2nd floor) to Air Conditioning because it financially made sense to add it now rather than try to add it at a later time, separately. Larry was extremely patient with us as we tweaked the contract, going back and forth on models to consider and how to finance a portion of the project using NYSERDA. Larry also arranged for Con Ed to provide us with a new gas line to the house to service the 2nd floor Furnace that was going into the attic. This process took a few months to happen as their are several steps involved on the Con Ed side of things. Contracts were signed end of April and work began in May/June, and just in time for the 1st heat wave in July we had AC connected and operating! The crew was here for many weeks, working in a hot attic, moving items around but they were great. The furnace was in place, AC was working but we had to wait for the gas line in order to connect the heating system to have the job fully completed. We even had to request that the condenser for the AC unit be temporarily removed so we could arrange for our paver guys to create a pad for it. Trying to tee every vendor up is a logistical challenge, but Phoenix worked with us and for that we are extremely thankful. By the end of the Summer (August) we had the new gas line installed from the street to the house and the crew was ready to return to connect the new equipment. Gas lines were run up through the floors to the attic, it was done via a closet, and was done so in a very professional manner (i.e no mess, did not affect space in closet etc). All hot water plumbing lines for 2nd unit were done with PEX. They even left all the copper for us (per our request) so we can get some $ for scrap metal. Once the job was completed we had to follow up several times to ensure permits were closed out, while this took a while it was eventually resolved. The reason was completely valid as their had been a medical related situation with their electrician, so they were able to arrange for a different electrician to handle closing out the permit. Once the electrical permit was close out then we were able to close out the rest of the permits. (November) Since having the new systems in place, we experienced only 1 issue with the Triangular tube once the heating season began (Dec 2015). It kept running and overriding some sort of program, which resulted in my tenants experiencing over 90 degrees in their unit, they had to leave the windows open just to breathe. Phoenix came out the very next day and took care of the error. Since then we have not experienced any further issues and I hope it stays that way for years to come. If you are considering who you should use for your HVAC needs, we recommend going with this family based company. We felt we could trust them and even though they didn't have a ton of reviews when we 1st found them, they had enough of a A rating for us to give them a try. We are happy we did. Thank you Larry and Jonathan!

First, Phoenix promptly called us back the next morning after we left an inquiry with their answering service (the other vendor we called from Angie's never replied!). Second, they were clear about their cost structure. Third, they had a crew to our home before noon that morning. Both technicians acted professionally, taking the time to advise us on what was needed, not selling us things we didn't need, and suggesting DIY maintenance we could perform to keep our furnace in good shape going forward.
