Handyman Connection - Westchester County

First I spoke to the owner a nice guy named Steve who explained the process. Two days later I received a call from Bart , the person who completed the work. Bart had to sheetrock a sharp declining basement stairway, that had a high sloped ceinling, and wall in another area. Came out great, and he's a really nice guy, and a perfectionist. I am the dyi type so there were areas i had started and still working on that he gave me tips on. I would definitely recommend Handyman Connection, the overall response time was great. Glad I wasnt leery after reading some of these reviews. They were worth the chance.

The service was overpriced and the work was mediocre. A few weeks after he hung the toilet paper holder on the wall, it fell down. Turned out he didn't hang it properly-- only used anchors on one side of the holder. Now I have holes in my walls, have to re-do the work myself, and basically wasted my money. Very disappointed. *Update: The company's response to my review is not accurate. They didn't include the "additional fee for materials". Also, I never asked anyone to "cover holes". The paper holder fell because there were only anchors used on one side of it.

From start to finish, this was a great experience. Steve walked us through all the details so there was no ambiguity in what was and wasn't included. The team that did the work were equally terrific. They knew what they were doing, made no assumptions about what we might want or not want and tried to be as clean as possible. The price was, in my opinion, extremely competitive even after adding in the supplies I had to purchase and what they provided. All in, a wonderful experience. I will be using Steve and the team again very soon for a complete kitchen renovation.

The guy who came to do the baseboard and casing did not measure carefully and apparently did not have the proper carpentry tools to do the job neatly. When he finished it was far below professional quality. This despite clear instructions to the northern Westchester franchise owner at the time of the hire, that my expectations were to have carpentry performed by a highly detailed and professional person. I fired the worker due to poor quality work and and the other man who came to finish it only completed what was incomplete, but did not redo what was done poorly. The terrace wall slats were popping off within days of being installed. They were also removed and redone by the second worker however 18 months later, they are now falling off.

A year and a half ago we hired Handyman Connection to replace the wood on a rotten deck. When the worker was finished he tried to leave without allowing me to check the work. I insisted on looking it over and found that the bottom steps were dangerously small. I almost fell down the stairs carrying our baby. He hadn't measured properly and didn't have room for regulation sized steps. The owner of Handyman Connection came out and they figured out how to fix the stairs (they didn't charge us extra for the steps because the worker admitted he'd overcharged us for materials already). Then, in the past month, we've noticed that the deck is sagging considerably. It is raised 10-12 feet off the ground and the platform part has dropped about an inch. This is really dangerous. We called Handyman Connection and they eventually sent someone out. He didn't seem to know much about the company, but he was horrified by the lack of support built into the deck. He didn't want the job, I guess, so they sent someone else out. He was nice and also agreed that the deck was really poorly built, but he said that the workers are all just independent contractors who are loosely associated with Handyman Connection. He didn't do the original work, so he would need to be fully paid for any repair work. This made sense, but Handyman Connection also seemed to have washed their hands of the original worker who built the deck. They offered to just knock 25% off the labor cost of finishing the original job properly. We were stunned. You may be lucky enough to get someone good through them, but it's a gamble.

Brian was very professional. He explained what he was going to do, how much it would cost and roughly how long it would take. There were no surprises. He then went about the work efficiently trying to be minimally disruptive to the rest of our household. After the job he cleaned up and bagged all discarded material. The repairs appear to be done quite well, and the house looks much better. Altogether I am very pleased with the results.

They are good, cheap, and reliable. Very responsive nice guys!

The person who contacted me let know all the possible outcomes and even some other options I have. Even though they did not give an exact number they did give me a good idea of how much I would need to spend.

Hired to repair and repaint my neglected deck. Deck had not been painted professionally since I purchased the property over 15 years ago. Met with Mr. White to go over the work that needed to be done and received a very fair estimate within 24 hrs. A week later Craftsman Eric Schaper was at my home and went right to work. I did not observe the actual work being done as it was done while I was at work, but in less than a week I had a beautiful deck that I will be proud to enjoy over the warm months. Although it's very possible I may have been able to have the job done for less, I doubt the results would have been as pleasing. Will definitely use Handyman Connection again in the near future.

Overall, it's pretty good. Initially, I planned on adding new hardwood floor but the guy I hired discovered that there was pretty good flooring underneath the graphic carpet and he said that it would probably be worthwhile to just refinish it that it would be more cost-effective. And so we went with that and it went pretty nicely. Communication could have been better. I think the end result was very good and the cost was very good relatively speaking because it was less than what I anticipated because we changed the nature of the job. The communication was frustrating because I needed to know a little more about what's going on. I think they did a good job.

My bathroom came out gorgeous. The tile work John did was better than I thought it would come out. I have an awkward window in the shower and he framed it out with the tile and made it look amazing. I wish I could attach pictures to show the difference. My shower niche for my shampoo bottles is perfect. The walls outside the shower had old tile halfway up and plaster walls the rest of the way. I didn't want the whole wall demo'ed because I was concerned with the amount of debris they would be removing, so instead I had him removed the tile, and sheetrock half the walls to meet the plaster walls. I was very concerned that it was going to obviously look like two different types of walls but honestly you can't even tell it was 2 different walls. Only pictures could explain it. John was very patient with me and how particular I was with things I wanted. Great work, and great price.

Rick did a very good job overall. He was a great communicator and got the job done in a timely fashion. He also completed other small tasks around the house that we did not ask him to do but which were very helpful, such as fixing our front door lock, fixing a broken garden tool and repairing a damaged wooden door. The window looks much much better than it did before and I would say rick did a good job painting and a great job sealing and replacing the glass panes. There is more paint than I would like on the edges of the glass but Rick said this was for sealing purposes so I would not fault his craftmanship for the way this was done. I have had great experiences with the people provided by Handyman connection and I would recommend Rick Panson highly as well.

Company very responsive when I called. Spoke with Steve and told him about my job, but let him know that I needed to have some other work done first. I called him when that work was done and got a return call right away from the office who let me know that Handyman Bob would be calling me within 24 hours to schedule the work. The next morning, i got a call from Bob who came to look at the job, gave me a reasonable price and did the work, right then. It took him about 1.5 hours. He replaced 5 sets of shutters on my first and second story windows. He also removed and replaced my old, broken mailbox with a new one. He was polite, courteous, on time, and efficient.

They built porch steps but built them as deck steps. I had to hire someone else to dismantle it and rebuild the steps. It was terrible. They took apart steps that ran all the way to the foundation because there was rotting. Then they used very soft splinter pine and ran it about a foot short from the foundation because he didn’t have enough lumber. I was home all day and he never let me know that he was having issues or needed more supplies. It was all wrong and crooked. Completely unprofessional and we had a very bad interaction.

It was referral service. I’ve had them twice. He’s prompt. He’s accurate and pleasant person. He does good work. He is reasonably priced. A couple of years ago, he put in an external exhaust fan. He cancelled one appointment earlier on the exhaust fan. I may use them soon.

It went smoothly. Shawn knew what he was doing and completed his work in a timely fashion.

Never heard from them...put in an email request at least a month ago and no response

This was a wonderful experience. I had old tiles down that were falling apart, and the original sub floor that was probably 30 years old in my bathroom. Within a day and a half I had a new sub floor, and my new tiles put in exactly the way I wanted them. Everyone I contacted at Handyman Connection for this job was very professional - from Richard coming and giving me the estimate to the great guys who did the labor. They left my bathroom spotless when they were done, and no dust anywhere. I have 2 more rooms to renovated and I will certainly be calling this company in the future.
