It initially went well and the first job they did a portion of the work. I then called them back at their private number for the 2nd job, since I decided to have them finish the plastering. They also sealed a 10x10 wall too. 2 workers came out and they stayed for about 2 hours. They brought the materials the first that he came out, and brought more than what was needed and they brought more than what was needed the 2nd time too. I had to pay for all of that and I thought they charged too much though. They did leave the extra materials. I have used them about 3 times, but I want to add that I called for one particular thing at point, but they never showed. I was disappointed with the 2nd job, since the first job they did so well.
Description of Work: They did some plastering in the basement.

I am going to request that Angie's List remove this review as we did not do any drywall or plaster work for this customer in 2013, and in point of fact, we have done no work for this customer in 2013. Also, we have no "private number," so if the customer called a private number, we can only assume she called one of our craftsmen directly to do additional work which we have no control over.

They were wonderful. Mr. Freed was one time and professional. He was clean and delivered the service the company promised. Scheduling was easy and he was there within a day or do. He brought all the tools necessary. He even determined that the directions were wrong from the manufacture pieces, and he was able to assumable that without any issues. He was also very polite, offered advice and additional services as well.

I have no complaints. The work performed looks great, Gary, who showed up to do the work was prompt, responsive and did a very good job.
Description of Work: Repaired water damage on a textured ceiling, which included repairing the sheetrock and re-painting the affected area. Repainted indoor stairs.
Once again I'm so happy with the work that was done at our home. Mike and Joe did a beautiful job in our foyer. They are so friendly, professional and efficient. We still have lots to do at our home and we will surely be calling on Handyman Connection again.

Richard Smith of Handyman Connection of Westchester was professional and communicated well, both by telephone and email. The project was referred to Rufino who gave me a reasonable quote for installing attic stairs in my condo. At my request Rufino purchased the stairs and additional supplies to complete the project. He arrived on time, protected the furniture in the room and cleaned up after the installation. He was efficient and professional. I would definitely contact Handyman Connection of Westchester again.

Norman Freed called immediately after I spoke with the company and described the scope of the work. He came a few minutes earlier than the appointed time. After surveying the tasks, he decided on a price, which I thought fair, and agreed to. He told me that he needed to leave to pick up his son from school before completing all the jobs, but offered to return either later that evening or the next day, at my convenience. He did return the next day, and completed each of the tasks. He worked quietly and efficiently. Although he gathered the packaging from all the boxes and threw everything in the trash, he did not volunteer to vacuum up the mess left behind (something other workers have volunteered to do). Other than that, I was satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: Several odd jobs: replaced wood panels that had been removed to do waterproofing in the basement; rehung new mirrored doors in medicine cabinets in bathrooms; rehung a full-length mirror on the back of a door and installed a shoe rack on the back of a closet door; reinstalled kitchen cabinet door that had been repaired.

We have spoken to the craftsman involved and reminded all of our other craftsman about the importance of leaving the work site in the home as clean as we found it before we started the work. He should have offered to vacuum or sweep the area and he did not and for this we apologize to the customer.

We called for service because our dryer vent was not working. Prior to the service call, we purchased the materials. The service man called from a blocked # and we could not get in touch with him. He called again on a Sunday and indicated he could come over. He did not tell us we would be charged for an 'emergency' call. So we ended up paying premium $'s to reconnect dryer vent. I explained this to the management and requested we be charged the week rate. They rejected my request and said they would refund $35.00. Angie's list had a $25.00 coupon available for repairs over $100.00. In reality all they agreed to take off was $10.00. What upset me about this situation is the take-it-or-leave it attitude. I have used their services a few times ..this particular call should not have cost me for than $50.00, tops $75.00 The technician was here no more than 10 minutes. I will not be calling them again any time soon.
Description of Work: reconnected a dryer - we provided all the material...he simply hooked up the dryer to the air vent.

This customer’s description of these events is simply untrue. The craftsman involved called the customer’s tenant to schedule an appointment to replace the dryer vent and the tenant requested that the craftsman come to his house to do the work on a Sunday. Upon his arrival he wrote up a Labor Estimate describing the work to be done with the cost and the estimate and cost was approved by the tenant by his signature on the Labor Estimate. The tenant was under no obligation to agree to the price, if he thought the price was too high he could have simply rejected the estimate. The tenant did not present the craftsman a coupon, so there was no coupon deducted. Time on the job is not the only factor determining cost. The craftsman’s car, gas, tools and the fact that he is covered by liability and worker compensation insurance all figure into the cost. We believe our charges are reasonable given the costs involved and make no apologies for the amount charged to this customer. When the job was done, the tenant was given an Invoice describing the work done and the price as was agreed to on the Labor Estimate. The tenant signed the Invoice on the approval line, above which it states “I have inspected the work and have found it satisfactory.” Any Angie’s list member wanting to see either of the above documents can contact us and we will be glad to e-mail them copies. As we would not agree to charge her what she thought was reasonable, we have a “take it or leave it attitude??” We have sent the customer a $35 refund which we felt was more than reasonable given the circumstances. She seems to think she knows what we should charge and what is reasonable. Maybe we should tell her what we think is a reasonable rent to charge he tenant and post a negative review on some landlord site if she does not agree and refund he tenant for her “overcharging.”

He was supposed to show up at 9 and didn't show up till 11. He also called us from a blocked number when he said he would be late. He said he would go to Home Depot to purchase the stuff to weatherstrip our windows and doors and said he'd be back to do one window to show us the quality of his work. He never came back. He also mentioned that he was a polygamist with three wives in Jamaica which was weird. During that conversation, he told me something to the effect of "women were selfish" when I asked him about that. He was very rude to me.

I tried to reach out to this customer last week to try and rectify this situation. I have not heard back. The fact that the craftsman Mordey was late was not his fault. We are dealing with new software that schedules appointments and there has been a learning curve. He did call me Saturday 8:30 am looking for information and I did not return his call until 9:25 am. The appointment admittedly did not go well. There were 34 windows and 4 doors that needed to be insulated. The craftsman felt he needed to re & re the frames to properly insulate. [member name removed] came back to him and said they had $1000.00 and that was all they wanted to spend. At this point we should have respectfully declined as we would not be comfortable band aiding such a project. Mordey did not call back from the Home Depot...again something we have discussed and I explained regardless as a courtesy we need to call the customer back . The comments about wives and women being selfish were inappropriate. Again something that has been brought to Mordey's attention. When invited into someones home the environment/conversation must be kept on a professional working platform. Mordey is a new craftsman with my company. There is an extensive vetting process that is done when we hire. Mordey was thoroughly checked and references/background came back positive. I will certainly work more closely with Mordey on any future quotes (actually attend appointment) and re-evaluate if we can continue our working partnership. Apologies to [member name removed] as we did not intend to offend her in any way.

So we did not waste our mutual time, I gave Steve White my condo boards requirements for all contractors in writing upfront with all the condo documents and he agreed he could meet all their requirements. Then after 20+ email/messages, a few phone calls, an onsite estimate and 2 proposals later, his insurance agent tells him not to sign the condo's indemnification form. Unfortunately he did not review this with his agent upfront and now I need to start over from scratch. While I am sure they will write some repsonse with an excuse of some kind, it is very simple: they should have checked with the agent upfront -- that is why I provided a 4 point list with all dosumentation. It is also all documented in writing so there can be no revisionist history. On a positive note, they do have good communication and follow-up and I liked the person they sent to give a proposal -- and if not working in a condo they may be a good fit for you.

The customer states the facts correctly and we will offer no excuses, we screwed up. We have done many jobs in CO-OPs and Condos over the years. While usually these entities require board and management companies be named as additionally liability insured, proof of workers compensation, proof of disability insurance, and proof of licensure, there are some that also have additional indemnification documents they want signed. As these indemnification documents have never presented a problem over the 15 years we have been in business and the hundreds of CO-OP/Condo jobs we have done, I incorrectly assumed that the one in question would not either. Unfortunately, this entity's was overly broad in the opinion of my insurance company and would have exposed my company to risks beyond its insurance coverage. The insurance company did offer to do something with "subrogation," a term I do not understand, but the customer felt that would not be acceptable to his Board. Bottom line- I assumed something I should not have and I apologize for my error.

Michael came in, looked at the work which I had broken into 7 pieces, and within a few days came back with 7 reasonable estimates. I decided to do them all and over 3 weeks he and his guys got all the work done. I bought all the materials. They were all friendly, cooperative and helpful with advice on my material purchases. They didn't nickle and dime you if you asked for something a little extra and did the entire project for the estimated amount. Inside, they replaced a difficult to remove dishwasher in a way that another contractor said couldn't be done; removed and replaced the toilet, vanity and fixtures from a small main-floor bathroom and installed peel-and-stick floor tiles; and painted the bathroom, hallway, stair railings and trim, and the living room. Outside, they painted the garage trim, the concrete porch and railings (including etching the porch with muriatic acid before painting), the front door and trim, and power-washed and stained the double-deck in the back - two coats. I'm happy with the work and would use them again.

This job was done on 4/10/12. Our invoice, signed by the customer, states that we repaired six steps, installed a carpet runner on 2 sets of stairs and repaired and 4’ x 4’ x 8’ post. There is nothing on our invoice about fixing a railing on a wall. We cannot add a copy of the invoice documenting these facts to our response as Angie’s List will post it as it has the customer’s name on it. If anyone wants to explore this further can call us and we will e-mail them a copy of the invoice. Never the less, when the customer called in May of 2013, past the period of our one year guarantee, we agreed to send a craftsman to look at the problem. At that time she also wanted a door bell replaced. We assigned the work order to one of our dependable craftsman and he called her twice to set an appointment to do the door bell and look at the railing (at no charge) and she never called back. Should she desire to call us again, we will once again attempt to send someone to look at the railing in question.

We have searched our records for this person's name and do not find her as a customer for the year 2013. There was a small glitch in that the original handyman, had some last minute issues and a replacement had to be provided. I was given superb attention and with minimum delay, Ruffino came to my home and immediately got to work. He knew what to do and within an hour and a half my attic stairs now worked as they did when they were new. It was difficult detaching and reattaching the springs but he handled it like a pro and further bolstered the hardware with a few additional screws. We are very satisfied with the work provided and would highly recommend Handyman Connection to anyone in need of services. This was the third time we used them and all three times went like clockwork. 5 stars all the way!

From the beginning, Handyman Connection was very professional and was pleasant to deal with. They were prompt in getting back to us with a date for an estimate and an install date. They're estimate was very reasonable. When the day arrived to install the doors, Mike and Bill arrived on time and began working. Because of the way our house was built, they ran into so many issues, but they handled it with such professionalism. What should have taken them a couple of hours, ended up taking them about nine. I felt so terrible for them, but they went about the job as if it were no big deal and saw the job through to end and done to perfection. We're so happy with the work they did!!! We would hire them again and again and plan to in the future for other projects we have planned.

He picked up supplies and called when he had an earlier appointment available because he knew I was eager to get it fixed. He was professional, polite, and trustworthy. The woman who answers the phone and sets up the appointments was very pleasant, and professional also. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Rebuilt a section of my porch railing, and painted to match
This is the second time I have used the Handyman Connection in almost as many months and the second time I have been very pleased by their service. Professional, prompt, and priced fairly. Mr. James was a pleasure to deal with and it is obvious he takes pride in his work. He also calls to follow-up, which is appreciated. Steve, the owner, was again a pleasure to deal with. My air conditioning duct started sweating, and it caused water damage on the ceiling below it. I found out the hard way that A/C repair companies DON'T like playing with sheetrock. So I needed a large portion of my ceiling NEATLY removed, and after the duct work was complete, I needed it replaced. Steve also suggested the idea of having his guy install a swinging door, which could be painted to match the ceiling, into the ceiling so the ducts could be easily accessed in the future. The Handyman, Mr. James, executed this plan perfectly. Originally, I thought I might repaint the area myself, but Mr. James offered to do it at such a reasonable fee, I could not refuse. The Handyman Connection is a well run operation, and I highly recommend calling them before getting fleeced by a contractor for what are often considered "small jobs."
