Description of Work: We are in the process of purchasing the home that we rent. We called FHI to get a bid on the desired construction to open the living to the kitchen, remodel the bath and add a bathroom and bedroom upstairs. Mike came out, we told him the items we wanted to have done in the home and that based on the quote we would decide how many items on our list would be was feasible. He stated he would reply with a quote by the end of the week (4 days) so far it has been over three weeks and we have not heard back... I placed two calls and the receptionist said that they don't typically give quotes that they only respond with a contract???? Who does that? Have contractors decided that the client doesn't need to understand the work and the price associated with it? This company only wants quick hits, they don't want to partner with their clients... The receptionist was beyond rude and condescending. We have signed with another company who clearly wanted our work and respected our request to select our projects. We selected them all.

+ 4 moreThe men arrived early Friday morning to break up and remove old driveway and patio. We had requested that the new cement be poured on a Saturday since we live on a street with a public school. Between car traffic and foot traffic we thought Saturday would be the best day. The men arrived ready to go, but the weather did not cooperate. It rained steadily so the job couldn't be done. Instead it was done on the following Monday. We reserved parking out front with our cars so that the trucks would have a place to park when they arrived. The job proceeded just fine. The workers were very good and very attentive to their job. When they finished they tied up a baracade of yellow caution tape to protect the wet cement. We are very pleased with the quality of the work and most impressed with the professionalism of the company and the work ethic of the men. We would definitely use this provider again and have recommended them to several neighbors who are needing some work done.
Description of Work: Removed old blacktop driveway and put down concrete. We edged the driveway with Belgian block bricks. Removed old front patio and put down new concrete patio.

+ 9 moreI used them 7 or 8 years ago to install windows in my house and they did such a great job that I decided to redo my entire house after Sandy. They started on time and finished within the 2 week time frame they said they would on the last job.
Description of Work: I used Family Home Improvement to redo my roof, reside my house, pour a new driveway, sidewalk and backyard patio with pavers. They last did electrical work, carpentry, sheetrock and plastering which they finished two days ago. It was redoing a dining room and den.

+ 7 moreFirst had estimate and review of work they had done in the past. Went to one other contractor which was about $2,000 more (and that was with me buying things myself). Decided to go with Family Home Improvement. Everything started right on schedule. Project manager assigned to handle each phase of the job. Demolition, plumbing, electrical, then carpentry and finally tile and installation of vanity, shower, etc. Bathroom turned out beautiful. I purchased a couple of things myself (vanity, mirror, towel bar, toilet tissue holder, storage cabinet for mounting on wall. They took care of installing everything. I'm very pleased with the way the job went.

Description of Work: In the beginning of 2012, we met with several contractors for a backyard project. Our project involved a 12 X 20 ground-level deck to be build around a spa tub. The President, Howard Pogrob, met with us to discuss the details and our budget. Howard was more interested in talking about his company than our project and didn't even give us the courtesy of providing an estimate. He also said Angie's List was bulls&@#. We are almost at completion with our project working with John Byrnes, owner of Distinctive Decks 631-525-3032. I haven't submitted a review for them yet because we are not completely finished. I can tell you that John went out of his way to meet our budget and is a very hard worker. I am going to use John's future services for interior crown molding in my master bedroom and, eventually, a new wood floor in the master bedroom.

They had quite a few people coming in and out that didn't know how to do things. The sliding door took quite a while as well. They damaged a few tiles in my kitchen. They sent someone in to do it but they didn't do a good job. It is peeling up now.
Description of Work: They fixed walls in basement. It was Sheetrock. They installed a door in our dining room.

+ 4 moreI didn't like the stock that they had in vanities and they refused to install a vanity that I found on the internet. I guess it was too expensive because they didn't want to be liable. They are good people, but they were very particular when it came to the vanity. The rest of the work they did was fine though.
Description of Work: They redid my 200 square foot bathroom. Everything was new including the tile flooring and vanity. They also did new lighting and plumbing as well.
