We made the cross-country trip in our mini motor home, arriving at our new house in Loveland CO on June 5. It was fortunate that we had the motor home in Colorado, as otherwise we would have had no place to sleep, and it had enough kitchen utensils to cook at our new home. A nearby State Park provided a place for overnight camping except on weekends when it was always sold out with advance sales, and we would have to go much further afield. This was 26 nights we left our home for another place to sleep. As far as damages: an ironing board missing. An expensive wooden sideboard damaged, some of it not repairable. Some glassware broken. Absolutely nothing packed by us was damaged, only stuff packed by D&B. The unloading crew was very good, taking care not to damage doorways, floors, or other things, and placing everything just where we wanted it. We were never advised that the load had not left Vestal until we called D&B asking for a delivery date. This was the first of many transcontinental phone calls. We eventually contacted NAVL and on a later call were offered per diem for the waiting, which reached $1000.
Description of Work: Late May our automobile was picked up by transporter used by D&B. Some final packing done by D&B May 29 2013 at our former house in Vestal, NY. Van (single-chassis) arrives and loaded by D&B May 30. Unknown to us at the time, load was taken directly to D&B Vestal warehouse. Our automobile was delivered to us in Colorado on June 6. We did not see our furniture again until July 1 2013 NOTE: your (Angie's List) form below DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO CHECK BOTH BEGINNING AND ENDING LOCATIONS.

They first stopped to pick up a large china cabinet that we had purchased from an individual. They arrived within 10 minutes of the scheduled time. Was a rather tight fit getting the piece out but they managed it somehow. They then proceeded to the apartment, where 3 people moved the furniture and other items and loaded onto the truck. A 4th person packed up all the glass tops, of which there were alot. They completed this task within the estimated time they had provided. The new house was only a few miles away, we then met them there after they took a half hour break for lunch. Items were moved efficiently into the new house. At both the old apartment and the new house they let me borrow some of their tools to tighten up screws and bolts that were loose on various pieces of furniture, which was very helpful. They also helped me turn over the large pieces to have easier access to tighten up the fittings. They expressed concerns about being able to fit the queen sized box spring and a large dresser up the stairs, which had 90 degree turn and a low overhang, but somehow they managed to get them up and around. Right at the end when they were unpacking the glass tops, they moved a large wall mirrow and unfortunately it was placed too upright and shortly after fell over and shattered. Thankfully it was completely packed in cardboard so all the pieces were contained. While we haven't received payment for this yet, (we were slow on submitting the claim), it doesn't appear as if they are not going to pay for the damage. The total time for the project was within their estimate, so the move was within the estimated cost.
Description of Work: Moved furniture and various boxes and bins that were already packed to new house.

The three movers came with their truck and all moving equipment at 7:30 am. When it was time to move the desk from the loft to the ground floor to move it out, Mr Dimon and some other movers appeared. The job was done cleanly and effectively. The movers clearly knew what they were doing throughout. By about 9 am the truck was loaded and it was time to move to the house. By eleven they were done. They left all the boxes where I requested. My newly finished floors were not scratched by awkward furniture. These guys are professionals. I had been quoted about $1045 for this job by D&S, and it cost me $606. The movers were on their way to start celebrating Thanksgiving a bit after 11 am. I was charged for their time working and of travelling to and from Elmira, where they are stationed. I calculate I was paying $40/hr/mover. Knowing that a full blown corporate move of my belongings can costs between five and ten thousand dollars, I think this was pretty good use of their time on my dime. So consider hiring them locally. Top notch.
Description of Work: The letterhead of the bill I received indicates that I hired Dimon & Sons, located at D&B's address in Elmira. I understand they are the same company. Dimon & Bacorn is the principal moving company in the Southern Tiers area of NYS (from at least Binghamton to Corning). Their clients include the biggest corporation in the area for a simple local move. One would expect them to be pricey I did not find it so. In addition, they moved me the same week I called, did not damage anything and did it in lightning speed. I lived in a 1500 sq ft apartment and was moving to a comparably sized house ten miles apart. All rooms were furnished and I have six large sized bookcases full of books. I have a desk that does not go through standard-sized doors as well. So my move filled a reasonably sized truck. .The three movers that came did not have to do any packing or boxing as I had done all of this. I think this is a key factor in why it did not cost me more.
