BR Johnson is a supplier & installer of residential & commercial doors, windows, & hardware systems. We work with window manufacturers such as Andersen, Eagle, Kasson & Keller, Norwood, Traco, Vistawall, Litex. We install doors from Therm-Tru and door & cabinet hardware from Baldwin, Emtek, Schlage, Top Knobs, Rocky Mountain, Colonial Bronze, Assa Abloy, Stanley and more. Modernfold & Skyfold room dividers & Smoke Guard containment systems are available through our specialty division.
In early July 2015, I bought a new home and one of the windows was broken. I hoped to get it fixed quickly, so I could enjoy the summer in my new home. A BR Johnson representative responded quickly and came right over to provide an estimate. He said he would be providing a written estimate, which I did not receive. I had to call him twice before the estimate came. During one of those calls, he told me that he could not order the replacement glass without a downpayment. I told him that I was willing to provide a credit card number so the window could be ordered, as I was anxious to have the work done quickly. Weeks went by, no written estimate and no charge on my credit card. I called again. The estimate finally came. When I received it, there was language in the contract which stated that I should provide a downpayment of $240 via check. So I called the representative to determine if I should send a check or if he still planned to charge my credit card. He instructed me to write the check. I did. The very next day, a charge for $225 appeared on my credit card. This occurred in early August, a full 30 days after the representative came to my home. Over the next month, I called the representative a number of times. One time he told me that the glass they ordered had broken so they had to order a new pane. Luckily, I had called him as he had not called me once to inform me of the status of my repair. Then it was early September. BR Johnson had $465 of my money for over a month and not a speck of work was done. Additionally, no one from the company ever took the initiative to call me. I had to reach out to them any time I wanted information on the status of my repair. I contacted them in writing, demanding a full refund. Someone in management called me the next business day and told me that my money would be refunded. He was pleasant and professional. He told me that my credit card would be refunded and I would receive the balance in a check. It has been two weeks since that conversation. I have not seen a dime of my money back. I will eventually need to contact an attorney, it seems, if I ever want to get my money back. What a headache. And I still have a broken window. As an aside, I took the window out and brought it to a glass repair shop. They said it would cost $48 for the glass. Live and learn.
Description of Work: BR Johnson's representative came and gave me an estimate promptly. He quoted me $470 to replace the lower portion of a double-hung window. He told me the glass cost $225 and labor would constitute the remainder of the cost. He took 2 downpayments from me (for a total of $465) and I never saw anyone from BR Johnson again.

We are very sorry for this customer's bad experience with BR Johnson. We have made contact, via phone and email, and have refunded the full deposit amount. I believe that her account of the events is fundamentally accurate and that we were the ones at fault. Her experience was not indicative of how we normally operate and treat our customers. When an order slips through the cracks like this one did, we try to do everything to make it right. Unfortunately, this event had multiple mis-steps and we hope to learn from them moving forward. We have been locally owned and in business in Upstate NY since 1928. We don't advertise a lot as we mostly depend on word of mouth. This strategy has worked for many years and incidents like this, although they occasionally happen, are rare. We can only hope that this customer allows us a second chance someday to show her how we really operate.
