Everything went very smoothly, as quickly as possible, with very few surprises. Firestone Construction, Mike Molinari and his workers are professional, courteous and pleasant. Their prices appeared within the ballpark of other contractors we considered, but offered services the others did not. They were available to address all our concerns during every phase of the kitchen remodel. We plan to use them for other jobs, and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: The contractor, Mike Molinari, visited our Brooklyn co-op apartment and took detailed measurements of the small galley kitchen, noting its idiosyncrasies, limitations, etc., before we placed our kitchen cabinet order. He gave us a written estimate the next day, and made it very clear that additional charges would be applied if structural issues needed correcting. The price was well within our budget, and comparable to two other contractors we had considered. In addition to the installation of all new cabinets, appliances, flooring, wood moldings, and backsplash, the quote included complete demolition of all the old cabinets, removal of all the old appliances, floor tiles, backsplash, etc., and hauling away all debris. The price quote included pretty much everything except painting. Once the kitchen area was empty, assessments would be made, and the price adjusted accordingly. Firestone is a general contracting company with skilled workers who are licensed and insured in several counties within the New York City area, so they were well-equipped to handle the old, crumbling kitchen walls and badly warped floor, at a very reasonable extra price (still within our overall budget). When our new cabinets were delivered, Mike and his crew arrived shortly after, took inventory, and completed demolition the first day. By the end of the second day, they had installed a level plywood floor base and new wallboard, and began installing the base cabinets. By week's end, all prepping and plastering were completed, and all cabinets and floor tiles were installed. There was lag time of a few days until our appliances were delivered, then Mike's plumber installed the new gas range, along with an over-the-range microwave oven. Once all appliances were in place, the countertop vendor made a precise template for granite countertops which took approximately two more weeks to fabricate and install. In the meantime, Mike's guys installed baseboard moldings and did some miscellaneous touch-up plastering near the ceiling. A few days after the granite countertops were installed, Mike's plumber returned to hook up the sink, drain and dishwasher. By the end of the following week, we had a new tiled backsplash and a fully-functioning kitchen. Now we can paint and decorate!
