Job took approximately 14 months to complete. Many things had to be redone and redone again (i.e. sheetrock, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry). Management supervision was poor to at times good. Communication with workers as to job tasks was lacking resulting in work having to be redone. Had to constantly watch what was being done. It took a lot to get job completed in the manner originally expected. In the end we were left to deal with the issue of defective cabinet doors with the cabinet company. Firestone never followed up.

Work was completed in a decent time frame. However he used a unlicensed electrician which meant that the work wasn't completed properly. He caused me a lot of stress ,aggitation and extra money. I would not recommend him at all.
Description of Work: converted Cape to Colonial.

I cannot recommend him. His price was good. The job still isn't finished. There were a lot of things that he had to come back and work on again. I wasn't satisfied with things. He says he is going to come and he never gives a reason why he doesn't come. He doesn't use licensed electrical contractors. He will cut corners so I had to watch him. I might use him for a small job but nothing major. He is 16 months behind schedule. He stated his best efforts completion date would be March 2011. He is the kind of person that would be willing to walk away from the job. His work was adequate. He did have some licensed workers but he was willing to use workers that were not licensed. My big mistake was that I made a miscalculation and gave him too much money. I should have given him 1/3 down, 1/3 when the job was half done and the other 1/3 when the job was complete. I have already given him 98% of the money so he doesn't have any incentive to come back. I still have storage containers on my property that are holding my furniture. He is paying $70 a month for those containers and that is his only incentive he has to come back. The major thing he still has to do is install an auxiliary heating system. There is a 50% chance that he will come back to finish the job. The job was started on September 10th, 2010, but it is still not finished.
Description of Work: I used Firestone Construction because I had a fire on August 4, 2010 and he started the major remodeling work in September 2010. He still has work to do.

Overall the work was adequate but towards the end he just walked away from the job and left me without my certificate of occupancy. Specifically he didn't use a NYC licensed electrical contractor which left me in dire straits. Watch out for this contractor especially towards the end of your job.

Everything went very smoothly, as quickly as possible, with very few surprises. Firestone Construction, Mike Molinari and his workers are professional, courteous and pleasant. Their prices appeared within the ballpark of other contractors we considered, but offered services the others did not. They were available to address all our concerns during every phase of the kitchen remodel. We plan to use them for other jobs, and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: The contractor, Mike Molinari, visited our Brooklyn co-op apartment and took detailed measurements of the small galley kitchen, noting its idiosyncrasies, limitations, etc., before we placed our kitchen cabinet order. He gave us a written estimate the next day, and made it very clear that additional charges would be applied if structural issues needed correcting. The price was well within our budget, and comparable to two other contractors we had considered. In addition to the installation of all new cabinets, appliances, flooring, wood moldings, and backsplash, the quote included complete demolition of all the old cabinets, removal of all the old appliances, floor tiles, backsplash, etc., and hauling away all debris. The price quote included pretty much everything except painting. Once the kitchen area was empty, assessments would be made, and the price adjusted accordingly. Firestone is a general contracting company with skilled workers who are licensed and insured in several counties within the New York City area, so they were well-equipped to handle the old, crumbling kitchen walls and badly warped floor, at a very reasonable extra price (still within our overall budget). When our new cabinets were delivered, Mike and his crew arrived shortly after, took inventory, and completed demolition the first day. By the end of the second day, they had installed a level plywood floor base and new wallboard, and began installing the base cabinets. By week's end, all prepping and plastering were completed, and all cabinets and floor tiles were installed. There was lag time of a few days until our appliances were delivered, then Mike's plumber installed the new gas range, along with an over-the-range microwave oven. Once all appliances were in place, the countertop vendor made a precise template for granite countertops which took approximately two more weeks to fabricate and install. In the meantime, Mike's guys installed baseboard moldings and did some miscellaneous touch-up plastering near the ceiling. A few days after the granite countertops were installed, Mike's plumber returned to hook up the sink, drain and dishwasher. By the end of the following week, we had a new tiled backsplash and a fully-functioning kitchen. Now we can paint and decorate!

They did a lot of work for us, and we were very pleased with them. They told us when they would be coming, and they came on time. They were professional and reliable. They also took payments as they went along. The quality of work was also excellent. If there was anything I wanted changed, there was no problem, and they were easy to accommodate.
Description of Work: They did the demolition of the kitchen and installed a whole new kitchen. They installed the back door, and put recess lighting throughout the apartment. They removed a stair case as well and finished off the ceiling and fixed this area. They also did some remodeling in the bathroom.
