Dan was very punctual and responsive but his work didn’t make it through one winter. He did the work for us in August and the concrete is cracking and separating the from the brick.
Description of Work: Our front steps were falling apart.

When breaking up the old concrete driveway instead of removing the old concrete and rocks the helper put some of the old rocks and some old concrete under my back porch! When I asked to have it removed I was told it would be fine. This stuff is now trickling out onto my patio. Both the mason and his helper repeatedly rinsed out their buckets and dumped the concrete on my lawn. When I asked them not to do this again, they dumped it on my neighbor's lawn instead. There was a gouge in the fresh concrete near my side door which I was told would be fixed before they left, which wasn't done. And when I was not at home, a finish was put on the concrete. This finish had a strong odor, but this would dissipate after a while. The next afternoon I could still smell the finish strongly in my yard and I then discovered that the last of the finish in the bucket had been dumped in my flower garden! All of the contaminated soil had to be dug up and discarded which I did. The communication process was non-existent. They got there when they got there, and they left promptly at 3pm. I had asked for a quick call or text to let me know if they would be be working or not, but this was never done. I felt that the problems I had with the job were either ignored or that some excuse was made. I did not feel that my concerns would be taken seriously and they weren't, but all of the checks paid for the work were very prompted cashed. Several of my neighbors asked if I would recommend this company and I had to tell them that I could not.
Description of Work: Initial contact was for re-pointing foundation of my house which overall was OK, but looked kind of sloppy in places where the helper did the work. The second part was to re-do my concrete driveway. This was where probems occured.

Dan and his crew did a decent job of the original order, but never answered repeated phone calls to come back and finish up an area that his crew did not do. He never responded to phone calls until September 2011, over a year later. He has never given us a receipt even though we asked him several times. We had to even remind him of the work he did for us. He showed no concern for the shoddy work, and seemed to have inclination to repair them. I have tried to call him a few times and left messages but he has not taken upon himself to call us even though he claims on his voice mail that he will call back immediately.
Description of Work: Our front porch has blue masonry stone. Dan Mccarthy came and gave an estimate in July 2010. He never gave us a written estimate, however he charged what he originally quoted. I am not sure if Dan did the job, but I know his men did work on the porch and steps. The work seemed to be done correctly and we were very pleased. UNTIL, I noticed one side of the upper section of the porch was loose and had never been cemented. It took FOREVER to get Dan to respond to my calls. FINALLY in September of 2011 he and his teenage son stopped by. Within 15 minutes he and his son were done with the repair but never had us check it out nor did he tell us he was done. Within the week the cement came undone because he cemented only the corner, not underneath the stones. I called him several times, again. According to his voice mail he will "get right back in touch with you" and he is very proud of his BBB A+ rating. Well, that will change because not only am I giving this review here, I am also getting in touch with BBB to let them know of his poor business habits. He has never returned my calls since he last visited to 'repair' the porch. He is a person who values the bigger jobs and seems to not have the time to fix small jobs. I would not recommend him to anyone who is in need of repairs. He also has never given us a receipt of the job done even though I have asked him several times. I even had to remind him of what he purchased, supposedly, to do the initial repairs.

Dan had great suggestions and ideas at the estimate. He knew the needs of houses in our area. His crew arrived and did the work, and cleaned up in a few hours. The foundation looks great.
Description of Work: We had our foundation bricks repaired and patched on 3 sides of the house.
