Description of Work: Getting the Furnace installed was trouble free from sales call (on time and no pressure) to the installation. Instructions/Tested heat and a/c before leaving. Friendly and informative. Figured out how to place my a/c per my request without moaning about extra work. So pleased I updated my water tank and ask for an air filter, that works great(my grandchildren stayed at my home without any allergy symptoms ending the visit early. Received an unexpected thank you from the staff also.

We needed a new furnace so after a couple of estimates we chose emerald heating and cooling. On November 2, 2012 was the scheduled install. What a great experience. The gentlemen installing was professional respectful and kind. Even though he was at our home for over 6 hours he was not intrusive. He communicated with us about what he was doing and even when he was going to lunch. Everything we needed done was done to include adding a new floor vent. Very considerate young man and I can't say enough about the excellent customer service we were given. If I was to rate the service and experience from 1-10 with 10 being the best I would say 15+. I don't typically give high ratings because if I hire someone for a job my expectation is professionalism, respect and consideration. When someone goes above and beyond that they should be acknowledged. I would recommend this company to anyone. They even sent us a thank you package for doing business with them when I should be the one sending the thank you. The little extras mean a lot in a world of competitors.

They were very courteous and went out of their way to accomodate my schedule (they called a technician to see if he could rearrange his schedule to work outside of normal business hours). They showed up on time and fnished the job within an hour. Both Marty (who I spoke to on the phone) and the technician that came out to my home were very nice and they did an excellent job for a very fair price.

Last year the tech found an electrical problem with my air conditioner that would have caused a lot of damage had I turned on the AC before he arrived. This year he cleaned and serviced the AC and it has worked well, despite the fact that the unit is 22 years old.
Description of Work: The technician performed maintenance on my air conditioner and also sold me a one year HVAC contract on furnace and air conditioning service. The company has been here before and they have always been punctual and professional. I would highly recommend this company for residential heating and air conditioning service.

I believe my principal contact with Emerald was the company's owner - "Marty". He was very knowledgeable about the capabilities of the systems he offered. He recommended Heil (recently acquired by Carrier) and I had done a little research on manufacturers and was comfortable with Heil (top of the line seems to be American Standard, but you do have to pay a premium to get one). He's very customer oriented and it's clear he wants customers to be comfortable and satisfied with their choices. We tentatively thought we would replace the old 3.0 ton unit with one of same size. But after he calculated cooling requirement based on square footage, number of windows, amount of insulation, etc., he indicated that 3.0 was on the low end of what was suggested. He didn't push for an upgrade, but I decided to go 3.5 ton because the additional cost was minimal. So he decided to include a higher-capacity evoporator coil at no charnge. We scheduled the work and the installer (Mark) showed up right on time. He got all the work done in one day. He thought he might be done by around 4P, but ran into a few complications that slowed down the work. But he didn't rush the work to try to finish and didn't actually wrap up until after 6P. The work was meticulous and seems to be of high quality (e.g., lines all neatly bundled and zip-tied, wall penetrations nicely sealed, no air leaks in ductwork, etc.). There was a small place were the painted finish had worn off of the top of the unit during shipment. He brought it to my attention and agreed to have it replaced by Heil and come back and change out the top without charge. The following days, we noticed that the lights would dim a bit when the A/C unit kicked on and called Marty about this (same thing happens when I engage my circular saw or when our old dehumidifier kicks in, but had not noticed it with the old A/C unit). He indicated this was pretty common for these new units (he has the same unit at his house and says that it does the same). I asked if anything could be done to address this. He said that, while the unit has a built-in capacitor, there is an option for installing a "booster" capacitor. He did so several days later (again, at no charge) and, while the lights still flicker a bit if the house is already under some electrical load, the effect is noticably reduced. Overall, I am very pleased with Emerald's work and would have no hesitation in having them do further work in the future.
Description of Work: Three years ago, I took advantage of the federal energy conservation tax credit to replace an old furnace with a new 95% efficiency furnace. I knew the air conditioning system was old as well, but it was functioning fine and I thought I'd wait to see if further credits might be offered in the future. Unfortunately, this summer we noticed we were getting some water leaking out of one corner of the duct work above the furnace and running onto the top of the furnace. We called Emerald to identify the cause. They deduced that the problem was either a blockage or a leak in the evaporator coil drip pan. I asked about the possibility of replacing just the pan. Given the age of the system (at least 20 years), they said that was not likely. They also indicated that the compressor/condenser was drawing more amps than it should and that a new unit would be at least 20% more efficient due to recent federal regulations mandating efficiency increases on manufacturers, and could be as much as 40% more efficient. They recommended replacement of the entire system. Due to the size of the investment, I did a little research and identified another HVAC service company and asked them for an evaluation. They agreed that the water was likely a leak from the drip pan and tested the condenser/compressor and found that it was operating a bit below specified levels, suggesting that there might be a slight loss of refrigerant. Although the loss of refrigerant and the amp draw could be debatable, I felt that replacement of the entire system was the right course of action. The quotes for replacement from the two firms were surprisingly close, so I decided to award the work to Emerald since they had done a nice job of installing the furnace and I thought it made sense to have the combined HVAC system done by the same firm.

June 11, 2012...I just knew it was going to be a bad day. It was the first day of my husband's new job after having been furloughedin January from his job of 28 years. As many know, the changes are quite stressful. An hour after he left the house, the CO detector in the basement (which had never gone off) started blaring. I hobbled down the stairs (I'm disabled) only to find a large puddleof water on the floor. CO detector indicates "get to fresh air!" I unplugged CO and pushed some water over to the sump andhobbled upstairs, turned off a/c (oh ya-did I mention it was around 90 degrees!) and opened all the windows. HVAC is my husband'smieu-not mine. The responsibility boundaries are very clear in our house and we do not cross them. But even if I wanted to stresshim out on his first day of work, I did not have a phone number yet and he did not take his cell. Goody. I was sure that had he been home, he would have managed some secret resolution that takes 2 seconds and is known only to heating and cooling businessesand husbands that know how to charm old, big ticket appliances. He knew how to keep that furnace/a/c purring but has nevertold me his secrets. What to do?! Well, ironically, we had just taken advantage of a reduced membership in Angie's List. Let'ssee what Angie has to say! will she save the day? After perusing the appropriate companies with the most stars, I settled on EmeraldHeating and Cooling. I told them my predicament and they said a tech would call me back but it may be a while because they are all out of the office. It wasn't anymore than 25 minutes when Darrell called back to get permission to come over. Darrell showed up 20minutes later. Darrell is wonderful. He said they don't fool around with CO problems. Darrell is my hero. Of course, it took Darrell2 seconds to clear the a/c drain line ( as I indictated would happen previously). This is when my husband comes home and gives me the hairy eyeball. Darrell saved me from a certain domestic. Did I tell you that Darrell is wonderful? Darrell then evaluated our HVACsetup and did testing for the CO. He explained everything he did and more. Darrell is very knowledgable and generous with thatknowledge. Darrell changed out an outmoded thermal damper in the exhaust on the hot water tank as well and then explained andordered up a fresh air make-up kit for our apparently 'too tight' basement. Hopefully it will be the wonderful Darrell who comes backto install it. Both my husband and I were extremely impressed by both Darrell and Emerald. These days it is very difficult to find areputable company with knowledgable and caring employees. We highly recommend both. note: I selected n/a on the price line because I just don't know the cost of HVAC repair. You can see the $99.18 as total. The service call was $79.00, we received $4.00off due to Angie, and the exhaust replacement was $17.00;the rest is tax. If pressed, I would say $79 is a fairly reasonable servicecall fee.
Description of Work: Darrell cleared a blocked drain on a/c Changed outdated hot water tank exhaust CO checks Ordered a Fresh Air make-up kit for basement to be installed after parts arrive & before winter Evaluated conditions of heating/cooling systems and the basement setup and discussed this with us

This past weekend while I was on vacation, my basement flooded and I was left with a foot of water in my basement. My furnace, water heater and dryer stopped working, so I called Emerald to come check it out. Joe came over within an hour of the call and fixed everything! I did not need a new furnace, he was able to relight the pilot light quickly. He showed me where my furnace was beginning to rust, but did not push me into buying a new furnace. He inspected my water heater and also told me it was not damaged. Unfortunately, my drier died, but there was nothing he could do. Super punctual, clean, efficient and knowledgeable. They NEVER try to get you to buy one of their products unless YOU inquire about one. Even then, there is no pressure. There is no pressure from this company to make an extra buck off of the customer. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Marty and his crew have done LOTS of work for me from installing a new furnace, to relighting my pilot light, fixing the circuit board on the furnace, and rerouting duct work. On this day, I called Emerald to inspect my furnace, hot water tank, and my dryer because my basement flooded.

Marty the owner first came out to give me a written estimate. He did not try to oversell me and thoroughly explained everything. Although they were not the cheapest estimate I received, I decided to go with them because of their professionalism and customer service. I had also had them to my condo in January to replace a hot water tank. They were willing to come after I got out of work at 5pm which really helped with my busy schedule. On the day they replaced my furnace and ac, the technician was early and was done by the time he stated. When they removed the old ac unit they discovered bees in the ground but Marty took care of the problem and continued to work. I was very appreciative of their extra effort. I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: I hired Emerald Heating and Cooling in June 2011 to replace my furnace and central air conditioner. I also hired them in January 2011 to replace my hot water tank.

The entire experience with their heating/air conditioning service was a very positive one. Professional, courteous and punctual.
Description of Work: The serviceman showed up on time in a well marked and maintained van. He was familiar with my heating and cooling equipment and performed professional service to them. He repaired something on my air conditioner and got it running just fine. The man honored a coupon I had downloaded from their site. They even sent me another coupon through the mail for future services. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
