They were able to back the large truck near to doors at both ends of the move to save time. It rained which slowed the loading and unloading down some. They laid packing blankets on the floors inside doors which helped keep my new floors dry and clean. I appreciated their concern about backing over my lawn to get close to my deck where they placed their ramp to unload through my back door. I could have saved myself a lot if I'd put more thought into what I needed to do before moving and had I the time to box up my own books, everything in the kitchen, the closets and everything else. But my schedule did not allow me to do so. They were thoughtful and considerate all during the move. Which made the moving experience far less stressful then other moves I've made in the past.
Description of Work: Two days of packing and boxing household, for me. They loaded a truck and drove it to the new house. Unloaded truck at destination taking time to shift furniture around in rooms where I wanted it. Marked box's were placed where I asked them to be placed them. They reassembled furniture that had to be taken apart like tables, beds, and a large difficult to take apart and put back together antique hutch, etc. They performed much extra, like reconnect my washer and dryer, hanging pictures and hanging and wiring a new light fixture for me.

Abbey Movers gave me a flat binding rate of $8000 then after loading and locking the truck demanded an additional $2000. This was done ostensibly because my driveway would not allow their tractor trailer to back in and they would need to use a shuttle. Abbey Movers was informed about the driveway nine days prior to their extorting more money from me. I have since found out that their actions violate DOT regulations. Both the DOT and my attorney recommended that I just pay them since they had all my household possessions then go after them in court. In addition, Abbey Movers in New York was extremely unprofessional. They brought their truck to my home and borrowed my husband's oil pan then asked for some oil. Later they asked to borrow his pick up truck to transport some larger items to their truck. The first night they left our home a mess, leaving an open containers of food on the counter. They argued with my husband when he told them a chair would not fit through the door and would have to go out a window. After wasting time trying to fit it through the door they finally ripped the front of it and took it out the window. Nor did Abbey movers do an inventory. My husband and I packed 80% of our belongings and were assured by Geoff that Abbey would do a top notch job packing the remainder. We had an antique dresser that was in perfect condition badly scratched, a one of a kind hand crafted head board with a chipped off corner and the leg torn off of a Korean Medicine Chest that I managed to transport from Korea with no damage. All of this was preventable with appropriate packing protection but Abbey Movers is more interested in expedience than professionalism. Geoff blamed the damage on his North Carolina crew (who by the way were the best part of the experience) and I later found out from them that the items arrived damaged. I have no reason not to believe them since all of their actions that day were exemplary and they kept Abbey Movers from further damaging my new home and household goods. Abbey Movers left before setting up our beds and have either hidden or absconded with the hardware box. This was the worst experience ever. The only positives were nice boxes, plenty of packing paper, punctuality and the North Carolina contract movers. I was already in NC with my animals while my husband suffered through Abbey Movers loading our truck. Our neighbors witnessed their bumbling unprofessionalism and on the phone I experienced first hand their passive aggressive, divisive process. They are incompetent and unethical, they deliberately defrauded us. Do not use!!!!!
Description of Work: Abbey Movers handled my move from upstate New York to North Carolina. For a fixed rate they agreed to pack, move and unload the contents of my house, shed, garage and workshop. They agreed to provide boxes and packing materials. They also agreed to provide the services on the dates I specified because their business was very slow.
