I have described above why I would not use their service.
Description of Work: Tender Lawn Care & Sprinkler, Inc. of Deer Park, NY, installed an underground sprinkler system (“lawn irrigation”) at my home. According to the owner of TenderLawn, Mike Prenderville, the timer/controller – which runs the system, is new enough to be under warranty. Also, in the past, I have paid them to open and close the system in the spring and fall. Unfortunately, the timer/controller does not work properly -- and they seem unable or unwilling to fix it. The problem: instead of one zone running at a time as per normal, several zones randomly go off at the same time. This produces flooding or large pools of water in certain areas of my lawn and garden (so much so that my neighbors complained). Also, the timer/controller has four (4) separate programs; each program should allow one to set the amount of time each zone is watered. However, when I set my timer/controller to Program A, for example, often Program D goes off; or worse Program A and D run simultaneously – causing flooding. In addition, the water going through the pipes creates a very loud noise when the Programs A and D run concurrently as described above; since TenderLawn set the timer/controller programs to begin at 4:00 am, it wakes me up each time the program starts. Moreover, I need to be home when the program ends to turn off the timer/controller. Otherwise the program starts to repeat the cycle of all the zones (instead of turning off automatically as it should); again, this causes more flooding on my lawn and my neighbor’s lawn. Because of the problems indicated above, I cannot rely on the system to work if I were to go away for a weekend, never mind a vacation. The worst part is that I have called the company several times to fix the problem, and they have been unresponsive. They finally set an appointment – after a long wait (with all the negative consequences to my lawn and plants) with the other owner, “Ed,” who is supposed to be the top technician on timer/controllers. They gave me a five-hour “window” to wait for Ed. He never showed up, and he never called to tell me he could not make the appointment. I called the office that day, and the secretary told me he would come the following day. Again, he never showed up or called. After several calls asking for help, they sent a lower level employee who told me when he got here that he did not have the equipment or knowledge to fix the problem; so he left without getting out of his truck. I called the secretary and she told me that Mike, the owner who initially set my timer/controller, would call me back in five days! (this after being “stood up” for three appointments in a row with no explanation). I called the secretary and asked her to have Mike or Ed, the owners, to call me. I still have not heard from them, even though I have followed up a number of times over a period of several weeks. The secretary told me she leaves messages on Mike the owner’s desk. It seems she has no direct line of communication – like a telephone number, to her boss. I would be happy to remove or amend this negative review if they showed up for their appointments and fixed the problem. It would also be helpful if they gave me some explanation as to why they have not responded to phone calls or kept their appointments over an eight-week period.
