I was chair of the association at the time. The day they arrived to do the roof I wanted to check to make sure the roof boards were good after they stripped the roof. They would not let me on the roof and insisted the boards were fine and no strapping was necessary. When they finished the roof they did not cut the metal to fit the end gable of the roof. They left about 8 to ten inches overhanging the end of the building. Our treasurer had already paid the bill assuming the job was well done so we had no leverage. They would not trim the gable end. At the first snow storm the attic of the building filled up with snow. When they put on the new roof cap they had not put in the foam strips under the ridge cap. There was up to 3 feet of snow that blew in through the ridge cap. The owner looked at the situation but would do nothing. Four months after installation the entire new metal roof blew off in a snow storm. Bellinger's blamed rotten roof boards and would not make any repairs or restitution. When I tried to talk to him his response was," Sue me". He knew a small town not for profit couldn't afford to do that. When it was in his best interest, (ie. making the most money on a bid job) the roof boards were fine. But when the roof blew off the roof boards were to fault not Bellingers. They had to know that leaving 8 to 10 inches overhanging the end gable of the roof was a sure way to have to roof blow off. If they had taken 15 extra minutes and cut the last sheet of metal to follow the gable end the roof might not have blown off. And if they had installed the foam blocks between the roofing and the roof cap snow wouldn't have blown in.
