Description of Work: Driveway paving

Description of Work: We had an asphalt driveway that was badly rutted, cracked and deteriorating. JW Stanley and crew came in, ripped up the old stuff and disposed of it, graded the drive, put down a new fabric and gravel base, then installed new asphalt. Scheduling this was interesting. They gave us an estimate of the month when the work would be done, then we heard nothing until the crew showed up about 4PM one afternoon. I would have liked a little more advance notice, but fortunately I was home that day, so it all worked out. The fellows worked long hours, staying after it got dark so they had to use lights for the evening work. Arrival time in the mornings varied from about 9AM to noon, depending on what other work they were doing and whether they had all the equipment and materials they needed. It was noisy and smelly work. The diesel fumes seeped into the house so I had to close all of the windows the days they worked. Both the owner and foreman (father and son) were part of the crew so were at the job full time. All of the guys were very professional, friendly, and responded positively to all of our requests for modification (e.g., sloping the asphalt so the water would run away from the house foundation). Three and a half days after they started, we had a lovely, smooth driveway. It is now 4 months later, and it looks just like the crew left it - smooth and even. We are very pleased with the job. The original price was the middle of the 4 estimates I got, with one being quite a bit lower and 2 others nearly twice as high. We made a great choice, getting an excellent job for a reasonable price. We also liked the fact that this is a local, family operated business. We highly recommend JW Stanley to others.
