I am a coop board president at 36 Hamilton Avenue Corporation, a building of 116 sharehilders on Staten Island , New York. USP was hired to remove appprox. 5oo linear footage of old wrought iron fence for $1500.00 which was completed and paid for and then install 188 linear square footage of a decorative wrought iron fence, a deposit paid to USP. The contractual agreement signed on 7/7/2011 stated installation of 188 linear square footage of decorative wrought iron fence paint process via 3 part electrostatic process. Additionaly, we had hired a landscaper/ masonary contractor to install pavers at the fence line. Both contractors met and were to work inconjuction with each other. The issues that surrounded USP's negligence had also interferred with the timely installation of masonary work approx. 2 weeks for USP to correct issues. The first issue presented when 2 employees from USP were sent 1 week later than promised to install footings of concrete 24" in depth and insert fence posts. The employees whom never viewed the job site prior to installation were not supervised properly and confused as to where to begin. Subsequently called Suasn Hutter ( sales manager) and Al ( boss) asking for supervision which USP begrudgingly complied . Second issue approx. 2 days after installation it was visible that the posts were not accurately spaced...This was due to the fact that a post for the gate ( a fire exit) was inadvertantly left out and intserted after all other posts were installed. USP responded again begrudingly and approx. 1 week later 3 posts were removed and reinserted for a less obvious inaccurate spacing.. Final issue of poor workmanship as well as not following contractual agreement was after all posts were installed and masonary work completed. It was obvious the fence posts were not lined up properly and multiple height variations visibly noted as well as taking a level and noting majority of posts were not level on all four sides.Additionally, visible rusting on majority of posts noted as well as paint peeling in various areas on posts after 2 weeks of installation. Subsequently, after complaint to USP a check for the deposit of installation of fence was returned. Thereafter, Al (boss) was summoned by my Property manager to view the negligence and poor workmanship. Al ( boss) responded and 1 week later at job site reviewed the workmanship stated" It's not one of our better jobs" At that time I asked for reimbursement for correction after obtaining 2 seperate proposals by fence contractors and masonary contractor. 4-5 pavering stones that surround each post as well as concrete needs to be removed, hand chisel out the concrete footing to remove the posts...and replacement of approx. 100 paving stones set in concrete total cost in excess of $5500.00.USP firmly states that electro- static process was used without primer and that he was not negligent. The truth is that the metal was sprayed with one coat of paint period. USP has offered $1500.00 to absolve themselves. The entire experience was dishearitng to say the least, additional cost and time has been incured in order to rectify the situation. I will not accept $1500.00. USP needs to pay the additional cost that will correct USP's mess . I do have photos and willing to post if necessary.
