We contracted with Decks Unique to build a pressure treated deck which included. a pergola. The work was done in October of last year . At he time we were told not to stain or seal it since it had to dry and to do tha staining and sealing in the Spring in April I noticed that some of the joists were warped and they came and replaced them. Afterward I got the wood stained and sealed. Over the last couple of weeks I noticed the the capping on the fence was warping and coming loose from the fence. I also noticed another warped joist as well as mite red corners that were separated. I again called the owner of the company and he told me it was essentially mu fault because I had not stained and sealed the deck earlier and they used the lowest quality wood available. At the beginning of the Job he never revealed that he was Gonig to use sub par materials or warn me about cracking or warping This was his response to my complaint. Your deck is made or acq lumber the least expensive material there is U were told to seal your deck in a timely manor and u didn't. This wood is known to shrink crack and bow. Especially if not sealed when and how it should have been. As u know the deck looked great all miters were tight when we completed the deck or u would not have paid us. We have no control of how or if the wood shrinks or expands. We went back to your house once already for wood that bowed probably because it was not sealed when it should have been and just because u seal the deck that does help the damage that was already done to the wood from not being sealed

Decks Unique were bid against (3) other companies. All bidders were well reviewed by myself and many others. The work scope was the same so it went down to the price and Decks Unique won out. Decks Unique stuck to their schedule, did the massive amount of work in just (3) short days and cleaned up after themselves. I can be a stickler for details, but they did everything I would expect from a service and product perspective. Thomas Gold my salesperson kept me in the loop every step of the way. I called up and got a receptionist for the above company. She asked me what I needed and I said that I need an estimate for an elevated deck for a hot tub. She asked me what material, how big, and how high off the ground. I told her Trex, pressure treated wood, cement footings and screws. It was a lot of information asked of me, for just scheduling an appointment for an estimate. I found out why after she put me on hold. Another girl named Kirsta or something close to that, told me that after specking with the owner, Luis, they would not be coming out because "THE JOB WAS TOO SMALL". Do you believe that?He must have instructed his receptionists to get all the information first, so he can decide if it is worth HIS time, and effort to take the job. I really don't think his company should be on Angie's list, because This owner Luis, is more concerned about how much money he can get, rather then helping an Angie's list member. I was willing to give his company good money, but now I'll will spread the word that this company is bad news! Sincerely, Alan Glibbery

Overall my wife and I are quite pleased with the results. Jason provided us with rendered drawings and various 3d concepts via e-mail. He paid close attention to accommodating any changes we requested, expectations we conveyed. He even went to the Town of Huntington on our behalf and filed for the proper permit(s), which made the process less of a hassle. Once we had the Town's official approval (about 4 - 6 weeks later) demo of the old deck was scheduled and completed within 48 hrs. The build took about 10+ days to complete, but much of that was due to scheduling conflicts with the inspector (total of 4 required). We are aware the project would have gone much faster without the delays caused by the Town and the weather. Their workers were very punctual and courteous throughout the entire process from the demo to digging, framing, construction, etc. Decks Unique's employees made sure they cleaned up at the end of each day. Between digging the footers for the posts and leveling the terrain for the ground floor decking they cleared a large amount of earth for us at no extra charge. Any finishing touches requested after completion were done swiftly and at no additional charge, which showed a fair amount of integrity. We believe Lou and his crew at Decks Unique to be rather professional. They show a lot of pride in their work. We would certainly recommend them to anyone interested in having a quality deck built. Everything is up to code if not above code and their finish work adds a pleasing aesthetic. Much obliged.

Their prices were a little more expensive, but I would've used them. Unfortunately, they couldn't get in until much later.

Jason, the design consultant, came to inspect the deck and to give us an estimate of what was needed to be done, the type of wood available that can be used, and the costs. After receiving other estimates, we decided to go with Decks Unique, mainly because of costs and good reviews from Angie's list. Don and Mark arrived a few days later at 7:15AM and worked without a break until about 3:15PM when the deck work was completed.That, to me was impressive. Both men were very knowledgeable, professional and socialable. The deck was ready to be sealed or stained. Lou Pagnutti, the President of the company, called the next day to inquire if everything was OK and if we were satisfied with what was done, and, offered advice on when and how to seal the deck. We would highly recommend Decks Unique and would not hesitate to use them again.

He was good. The guy’s name was Jason that came out and he gave me the quote, and he was really good. He was professional and prepared. The follow up was good. I just got an overall good impression from him. I went with him mostly because of the above reasons. I really didn’t get a chance to compare the prices with anyone else.

I thought their pricing was still High. After getting other estimates we ended up using another deck company who was much cheaper, and did a wonderful job.

It was great... They removed the old deck 2 days in advance of putting up new one. When they came to put new deck up, several guys came and they finished the job in about 4 hours, from start to finish. They were responsive to my first call. They came and gave me an estimate... Showed me all the options I had... Different materials and composites. They promised me a date and time convenient for me and delivered. Love my new deck and I am soooo happy with it. After interviewing three other deck contractors we decided on going with Decks Unique. Their methods for installation and profession approach to the project made this an easy choice. In the beginning we didn't meet with the owner, Lou, but rather the companies representative Jason Colapinto. It appears Lou prefers to handle the field work allowing him to focus on what he enjoys most, building decks, which is great because when they arrived to building the deck, it was poetry in motion....like a finely choreographed Broadway production. Jason is the epitome of professionalism, even tempered, prompt and polite. All around, the organization, including the office staff, is quite accommodating and a pleasure to work with. The are many great deck companies out there, but based on my experience and background in the field I do not hesitate to recommend this company to friends, family or anyone reading this review. Like all construction projects, you the homeowner must do your research, know what you want before you hire any contractor, set a budget and if need be hire an architect to prepare drawings prior so your bids can be compared apples to apples.

I have to say the crew (Lou, Jason, Pedro, Donald ,Marc, Mike, Tim, Nevin) was like no other i have ever seen, the work was done with such care and detail i was amazed. I consider myself a very particular person and they exceeded my expectations. To say i highly recommend them is an under statement .

We bought a new spa at a home show and needed a deck around the spa with a separate section for eating and entertainment. We went with a Trex deck system with post cap and step riser lighting. We got estimates from 3 different builders and the cost from all of them were within 1K. All the companies were A rated from Angie's List and we felt comfortable with all of them but we went with Decks Unique because of the responsiveness of their representative Scott. He stayed in constant touch with us through e-mail and phone calls during the decision process and continued to support the project from the town permit process through final construction. When we had a problem with the town required architect (that's another story) Decks Unique intervened and got the process moving when it looked like the architect's reluctance to supply modified plans would stall the project. Once construction started the only thing that held up work were the town inspections. The deck looks beautiful and we hope to enjoy it for many years to come. We can't say enough about Decks Unique, Louis and his crew, and their excellent rep Scott.

My husband and I called several deck companies to get estimates for a wood deck. Jason, from Decks Unique, came over and answered all questions we had. He was always available via email or telephone. He even emailed us about our designs in the late evenings. He was a pleasure to work with and I am sure I was a pain at times! My husband and I had one week off this winter. Decks Unique worked within our timeframe. We did not give them much notice, but they made it happen. The crew came early in the morning and got right to work. Lou came to speak with us to give us an idea of how the next two days were going to go. The crew was polite, prompt, and professional. They did an excellent job! We love our new deck. We need our patio redone soon and will be calling Jason to give us some ideas! Gina & Mike

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the crew was prompt, professional and did a great job. They left my property spotless and was able to complete the project in one day as promised.

The plans that I received showed zero creativity. I could have drawn up those plans.

We had gotten a couple of estimates prior to calling Decks Unique. The estimates were from local contractors. We gave them an idea of what we wanted and they came up with a price but could not show us a design on paper for us to look at. We looked on Angie's List and called Decks Unique. We set up an appointment and Scott promptly showed up. From the beginning he understood exactly what we wanted and gave us valuable input when he thought he could improve on my idea. You could tell the difference between a contractor who does all kinds of work and doesn't specialize in one area and a contractor who does just decks. Scott was much more knowledgeable. After about 40 minutes of getting an understanding of the ideal deck, he left saying he was going to design it on the computer. Sure enough a couple of hours later he emailed several 3D designs of the deck we had discussed. It was exactly what we had envisioned. I then went to their showroom and picked out colors etc. Everyone was helpful and knew the products very well. After picking the type of materials I wanted for the decking and railings, Scott called me and we thoroughly went over the final details. The workers showed up promptly at 7:00 on the scheduled day and everyone knew their jobs. Before they left that day the deck was 80% built. Two of the workers came back the next day and spent the whole day on the details. The workers were professional and friendly. The deck is beautiful. I used AZEK products on the deck and the rails which are on the higher end of the market. The deck material is sold PVC and not composite. Even though the price was higher, I recommend it if you can afford it. I don't expect to ever do any maintenance on this deck except to wash it periodically like you would a car to remove dirt. No more wood decks for me!

We love our new deck and were very satisfied with the services provided by Decks Unique, from start to finish. We chose this company primarily because they already had a very good reputation and we felt confident that they would deliver on what they promised. Scott, who came to give us an estimate, was extremely knowledgeable and helped us in finalizing the design of the deck. While the deck we had built was pretty basic (as far as design goes) there were many points where his feedback really helped (e.g. material choice, how high deck should be, where and what type of stairs and railings would work best, etc.). He provided us with multiple estimates (for different material options) which included a complete breakdown of costs. Scott visited our home a second time to finalize the design and material choice for the deck and within a couple of days he provided us with a computer designed image of what our deck would look like. That really helped to visualize what the final project would be like, ensured we were all on the same page with things, and gave us the opportunity to request any changes we may want to make. Other companies that we got quotes from did not provide that service and/or they charged a substantial additional fee for it. Decks Unique was competitive in price with other companies we got quotes from. While they were not the least expensive, we felt they charged us appropriately for the quality of materials and workmanship they provide. Scott also did a good job of explaining things so we knew exactly what we were paying for. The builders came to our residence early in the day and were able to complete the entire project that same day. They were polite, seemed extremely experienced, efficient, and precise in their work. They answered any questions I had and everything was clean and beautiful when they left at the end of the day.

I purchased the big deal coupon for this service and I wasn’t too impressed. It was something that I could have done myself. I was trying to get some ideas from them on how to landscape and design a back yard patio. They just sent this rendering of the patio. It was basically just the standard regular patio. There were no suggestions as far as planting or landscaping or anything like that. Nobody even followed up. They just emailed it to me and that was it; I never heard from them. I was the one who called them but nobody bothered calling me. Their price was fine.

Jason from Deck Unique came for estimates. He was very professional and answer all our questions. After entering the measurements, he gave us the estimate from his computer on the spot. Once we decided to go with Deck Unique, he came back for a detailed written contract. The work started as plan and the crews came on time and finished the decks in three days. They work very hard and always clean up before they leaves. We are very happy with our new decks and will definitely use them again in the future. We highly recommend them..

We didn't hire him - we were not ready to do the job.

I had contacted Decks Unique back in June for an estimate and in the process of finalizing an agreement when all of a sudden, the representative I was dealing with did not respond to the final question that I submitted via email. I even sent a follow-up email and still no response. It turns out that they actually did me a favor because I contacted another contractor on Angies List who just replaced my deck and it looks great! The price was also less as the other contractor did not nickel and dime me on every little item. For example, another reviewer had made a comment that Decks Unique uses nails rather than screws. I asked this question and was told that it would be an extra $500 to use screws. The other contractor that just built my deck used screws without any increase in the price. I gave a ?D? and not an ?F? because they did come to my home to provide the estimate and they deserve credit for that.

From the very beginning of the engagement with Decks Unique we were pleased. For starters they were responsive to our initial call for an estimate...sounds simple but some companies we called simply did not appear eager to come give an estimate. DU sent Scott to our home to survey the existing porch and discuss the job options. Scott was VERY helpful. Nothing we asked Scott for was an inconvenience or a bother. From the very beginning he helped us to understand options in material selection and in design and he made us feel very comfortable that he was committed to making sure we were happy with the finished product period. Scott described how the company worked in terms of their crew and how they start and finish a job in a matter of days...all very detailed...all very professional. We were planning a party at our house in the coming weeks and we didn't want the front of our house to be a construction site that day. We shared the date with DU and they assured us that we would be in and out and the job would be done before the party. We signed the contract and within a couple weeks they were at the house bright and early just like they said they would be. I was VERY impressed with the crew. They were professional, hard working, respectful men who worked very hard and very quick. I was in awe watching them. They worked so well together as if they had done this job 1000 times. There wasn't a lot of talking....just a lot of working and in in no time the old porch was out..and new wood was delivered. The job was done within a couple days just like they had predicted and it was beautiful! Scott had helped us make a tough decision on whether to spend the extra money and do the deck in Ipe. In the end he told us he didn't think we would regret it and he was right. The wood looks just beautiful and the workmanship on the deck was perfect. The night I came home from work to see the finished product I was very happy. The front yard was spotless like they hadn't even been there and the porch was stunning. Only one problem....the railing appeared different than the one my wife and I were expecting and that we picked out in their really nice showroom. I called Scott right away....and I will always remember his response. He said that he didn't no what happened but he would look into but assured me not to worry. He said he and DU were committed to ensuring that we were happy with the job and though he didn't know what had happened, or where the disconnect was, he would work with me to make it right. Once I heard that I remember thinking "Awesome response...but will they really deliver?" In short yes they did! To this day I am not sure where the disconnect was but Scott owned the problem, had a crew there within a couple days, ripped the railing out and put another one on at no cost to me. We were already impressed with DU. We already thought their professionalism was top notch. From Scott, to the showroom, to their workers etc....they were professionals. But when they pulled off replacing the railing and called back that night to make sure I was happy I was now a fan!! I told Scott that night on the phone that I know there is always the chance that something can go wrong on any job with any contractor but how he and his company handled it from their very first words "I don't know what happened but I promise you we will work with you to make it right. We want you to be happy" was simply awesome! Don't hesitate to use DU...they will not disappoint!

From our first meeting with Scott we were impressed with his professionalism. He e-mailed me before he came to confirm his appointment and then he arrived right on time. It took about a month for them to get to our job because of weather delays but the wait was very worth it. Scott called yesterday and told us that the team would arrive between 7:15 and 7:30 this morning. A few minutes after 7 they were here and working as they hit the ground. This is a remarkable team of men who work together , each knowing his part and performing it. Within 5 hours we had a beautiful deck and the whole area was cleaned up. The deck is amazing. I would gladly recommend this company to anyone who needs a new or rebuilt deck.
