The job was handled very efficiently. Joe and crew were timely and worked together like a well oiled machine. The work progressed well and it was amazing to see it all come together so quickly. Very professional, very competent and very nice!

We are thrilled with our new deck! We contacted the owner, Joe, who promptly returned our call and came to the house for an estimate. We have an existing screened-in porch only large enough to hold a table and chairs and wanted to extend the outside deck area that was previously only large enough to fit a grill to allow for entertaining and relaxing. Our backyard is a bit of a challenge as it's very sloped. The screened porch sits high above ground level, and as you go toward the other end of the house the distance between the ground and the deck gets smaller. Joe's vision was to extend the deck all the way to the end of the house, giving us around 400 square feet of space. He took care of having plans drawn up and getting the building permit. From initial meeting to completion of the deck took less than a month! Joe kept in touch with us regularly, so we knew where we stood at each stage of construction. We had to pay an initial $500 deposit, which covered the cost of getting the plans and permit, and then 3 additional payments with the last payment made at the time the job was done. The workers showed up at 8 am each day of construction, and the total time it took to demolish the old deck and install the new one was about 3 days. They never left a mess. The deck is beautiful! The stairs are 4 feet wide and there are a lot fewer of them, now that we extended the deck to the higher end of the slope which makes getting up and down a lot easier. We would highly recommend this company as the owner is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, has great ideas and takes care of everything for you from start to finish without any worries. We chose this company based on its great Angie's List reviews and are happy to add this review as another extremely satisfied customer.

Joe and his crew where very professional. Showed up when he said they were going to and completed everything joe said they would for that day. Joe and his crew built this deck in the beginning of Jan, so cold or rain they will show up and get the job done. Due to the cold they used techno post instead of concrete footing's and it turned out great. I will be contacting joe again for a future siding project when I'm ready.

In addition to building a new deck, we also contracted with Joe to have new deck plans drawn up, and to get approvals with the Town. By that time we had already decided to have Joe do our deck but still he explained there was a fee for his time to get the plans and approval and that if we changed our mind about having him build the deck the plans were still ours. And, if we went with him for the deck this fee would be deducted from the total deck quote. We did have Joe build the deck and was true to his word about the price. The work started right on schedule. Joe said he was about 3 weeks out on jobs and work started just shy of 3 weeks from the day he was notified the plans were approved. He had a crew of 2 others (nice guys sorry I don't remember their names) that started the tear down and also worked alone one day. Joe checked in or worked most days and was on-site working the entire day of the build. Overall, the whole project took about 3-4 days. When we were deciding on a deck, we considered composite because we were concerned about rough poor quality wood but the price was almost 3 times and well beyond what we wanted to spend for a deck so we gambled with pressure treated. We are so happy with the wood deck. I've never seen such nice pressure treated lumber. Joe said he buys a premium quality and he wasn't kidding. There are a few (2 or 3) boards that I might want replaced. Joe warned me that as the boards settle/dry that they sometimes split so I'm not upset or surprised and have no doubt Joe will come back to do address any concerns. From our experience, I can honestly say Joe is honest and conscientious about his work. When there are so many unethical people in the home repair/building industry finding a good one like Joe is a relief. Thanks Joe!! P.S. I will be calling soon. We still need those doors replaced!

JOE Vitale is a man of his word and a total professional--showed up just as promised and continued work through to excellent completion just as promised--what more can you ask for in a home project??!!

After contacting a few other contractors prior to joining Angies List, I finally found Excellent Exterior and Decks. I called them and the owner, Joe Vitale, called me back right away and we set up a day and time to discuss my project. Joe met me at my home to review the area and review my plans. We discussed my plans and changed a few minor things. He gave me a rough estimate based on my design and the selected materials of construction. I was happy with the rough estimate and I requested a formal estimate. A few days later I received my formal estimate via email. The cost was perfect for what I budgeted and I gave Joe the approval to proceed. Joe mentioned that there was approximately 3-4 week delay due to work back log which was okay with me. He asked for $500 down to get the ball rolling and he prepared the formal drawings for the Town to review and obtained the building permit. About 2 weeks after approval, I received a call from Joe just before Labor Day indicating that he had a customer postpone a previosuly scheduled project and that he could work my project into teh schedule the day after Labor Day. I was more than happy to say yes. On Tues, his crew arrived in the morning and started to measure and dig the post holes. The holes were complete on Tues and the concrete poured on Wed. Joe arranged for the Town inspector on Wed to inspect the holes prior to the concrete pour. The structure and 95% decking was completed by the end of the day. The hand rail, steps and skirting were completed before 5pm on Friday. The inspector returned on Friday to review the finished project. The entire job was completed in 4 days. Joe's team was professional, courteous and the yard was left in great shape after the job was completed.I love this deck. Thanks Joe!

Joe was the second contractor I hired to replace my existing elevated deck that also included adding a roof to the deck that ties into the house roof. The first local decking contractor I hired was an unmitigated disaster, please check my other reviews. I found Joe to be honest, well organized, and great with maintaining communication. The job was well done, he kept my yard clean and organized during the entire job and completed the job within 4 weeks. I have every intention of contacting Joe on future projects.

Called for a quote and Joe came out within a few days to our house, we talked over ideas and options. Joe was very honest and after looking at pictures of his work, we wanted him to build our deck. Our deck was built in two days and it is beautiful. Joe was accurate with his time frame and true to his word. He kept constant communication through texting or phone calls. After seeing the finished product, its obvious Joe and his team take pride in their work. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend him to anyone.

If every contractor was as honest, punctual and customer oriented as Joe, we wouldn't need Angie's List. Called Joe for a free quote. He came out within 5 days of the initial call and I explained my ideas and he gave me his expert thoughts and we came to an agreement on the plans. He drew out the deck on paper in front of me, measured a few things and quoted me a price of $7200 (estimated) on the spot. I told him I was an Angie's List member and he took 10% off the quote right then and there. $6450.00 No hassle, no haggle. Wife and I talked it over that night, Called Joe back the next day and said lets do it. He came out that night to collect a $500 deposit for engineering plans and town permit and off he went. Joe secured the town permit within 10 days. I had the engineering plans within 12 days. Joe kept in contact with me almost daily via phone and text, keeping me up on where the project stood. He informed me of the exact dates he would be out to lay the concrete footings and he was there. He then told me what date he would be back to start the deck and his team was there by 830am and built 98% of the deck in one day. He had to come back to finish the 4' gate on the next day. The deck is amazing. We LOVE it, everyone that comes over to our house LOVES it. Joe stands behind his work and informed us that if we have any problems in the coming years to call him back. 110% Satisfied and will recommend Joe to everyone I know.

The owner Joe was dead on with his suggested design plan. The deck is beautiful!! My favorite part was the speed and professionalism with which they worked. In addition, they cleaned up the work area everyday which enabled me to enjoy the progress. I only wish that I had them build my house!!

Contacted Mr. Vitale of Excellent Exterior & Deck Co. on a Saturday morning. He arrived at house for estimate that afternoon. Finalized deal Saturday evening, after my wife and I visited Curtis Lumber to pick out Trex colors. Old deck was removed Tuesday; new one installed Thursday. Due to settling, deck border needed to be leveled. Joe returned a few days after to tend to the issue and install rear finish boards. Simply put ,Mr. Vitale does excellent work and is a man of his word. Who could ask for more? Will certainly consider using his services for future renovations.

Joseph Vitale and his crew are the best. We couldn't be happier with job they did. Mr. Vitale got back to us the same day we called. He made an appointment to come to the house to speak with us the very next day. It was quite apparent that Mr. Vitale was an experienced and knowledgeable contractor. We discussed the use of different materials and he explained the pros and cons of going with each of them. What impressed us very much was that he was able to give us a price for the job right then and there. Most contractors tell you that they will get back to you and you wait and wait for the estimate. He was able to tell us when he could start the job and when they would be expected to finish the job. Mr. Vitale and his crew arrived promptly each day. The job was completed on time, as he said, and we were very happy with the result. In addition to being very professional, Mr. Vitale and his crew were very personable and friendly. They were meticulous in cleaning the work area at the end of the day. Over the years we have had the experience of working with many contractors for various jobs around our house. We have got to say that "Excellent Exterior and Deck Company", owned by Mr. Joseph Vitale, is THE BEST contractor we have ever had. For the first time we had the peace of mind that the job would be done right................ the first time! As a matter of fact, we have already asked them to come back in the fall to complete two other jobs that we need to have done. We are looking forward to working with Mr. Vitale again and we highly recommend him. Oh yes, and there is one more thing that you don't hear every day - Mr. Vitale stands behind his work 100%. It makes me think of the work ethic that the old "Mom & Pop" stores used to have.

Great! Joe was outstanding. He did exactly what we asked and kep us right on budget. He built us a high quality deck for a great price. Would highly recommend him to anyone looking to build a deck.

Another outstanding job by Joe and his crew! All work was done at my parents home. The crew removed the old roof, replaced plywood where needed, installed snow and ice shield, new roof shingles and ridge vent, all new flashings, and had new seamless gutters installed - all work was accomplished within a week. Joe also pointed out other areas in need of correction - a small, but potentially hazardous electrical problem in the attic (non-walkup) and a severe lack of insulation. We immediately contacted the necessary tradespeople and had the situation corrected. We couldn't be more pleased! If you need exterior work done on your home, Joe is the man to call!

Hie came out to inspect the potential job,as scheduled, but never called back with an estimate. About 3 weeks afterwards I called and left a message for the estimate. Still no word.

The deck removal and installation went well and was completed on a tuesday after starting on the previous friday in late July 2013. This deck was a basic 12'x16' deck at an elevation of 8 feet off the back of a raised ranch at a rental property that I own. Joe and his team worked well together and take pride in their work. My tenant was very pleased with the professionalism that the team displayed and the overall quality of the completed deck. The building inspector did have some minor comments on the finished deck. Joe corrected these immediately (within a few days) at no additonal cost. The building inspector was impressed with the decorative box pattern that Joe uses on the steps. Although the cost of decks these days is higher than in days past, Joe's bid was the lowest of the three major conractors I solicited on Angie's list by about $800 with no loss of quality in my opinion. One of the aspects that I especially like is Joes quarantee to come back and replace any treated wood parts that may split and/or warp in the few years following contract completion. This was particularly important to me. Despite Joe using qualtiy treated lumber, I have found that problems with treated lumber is a little more common these days in other projects that I have recently worked on. I also found Joe to be trustworthy in his word and deeds. I have hired contractors for nearly 30 years and this experience has been one of the best that I have had so far. I would expect to use Joe's services in the future and would recomend him.

He's very personable and down to earth. We got 3 quotes and we liked his best. He even put things in there that other ones hadn't even think about.

He contacted us the same day we left a message for him. We explained we needed a deck right away, we have safety issues because we have a disabled grandchild. He was excellent in considering our special needs. Our deck was begun within one week receiving our permits and completed in two days. He was friendly, professional and courteous. His workers were fast, efficient and neat. Many of our family and friend have complemented us on how well the deck and the pool matched. We feel he went above and beyond, helping us out with our necessity to rush the situation. He was very understanding. We would not hesitate to use him again or refer him to other people. The job went smoothly, without a hitch and we were very pleased.

Best person I have ever hired in 41 years. He was on time and did a super job. He and his helpers were nice guys. Can't say enough good things in the small space.

Joe was WONDERFUL! He was WONDERFUL. He did all the leg work to get the permit, designed the plans, was here as promised and finished the job in the time he said.

It went very well from the time Joe came out to give me the estimate until the time we settled up. His crew got right to work and completed the job in two days. It would have been sooner except that the weather intervened. They worked efficiently and cleaned up afterwards. The deck came out very much to our liking and I'm having Joe give me an estimate on an extension to the deck. I would highly recommend them.
