Joe V., showed up within a few days of me asking for a quote. He provided a reasonable quote on the spot. I committed and gave a small deposit and was scheduled for a few weeks out. Unlike many contractors I have done business with, Joe always answered his phone or got back to me immediately if he couldn’t. His crew showed up when they were scheduled and completed it within 3-4 days — heavy rain one day so they had to wrap up early. The deck looks amazing with a 7’ wide, two-step stairway down to my patio. Very happy with the whole experience,

Excellent Exterior and Deck Company did the demolition and disposal of an old, existing pressure-treated deck. They then constructed a new two-story Trex deck, approximately '16x'20 with 4' steps to grade. Joe and his crew, including Ben and Ian, did an extraordinary job every step of the way. They were always friendly, professional, and timely in their communication. They provided updates and gave clear expectations of what would be accomplished. The new Trex deck and steps met all and exceeded expectations. The durability and high level of construction is superior to the other options out there. GoliathTech posts are a must and the framing job Excellent Exterior and Deck does exceeds coding requirements. The finished product looks great and boasts the quality craftsmanship and worksmanship these professionals put into their work. Overall, a phenomenal product was produced and a highly satisfied customer was the result. Pictures are attached. Trex Transcend, Tiki Torch with Lava Rock accents was used.

While the majority of the work was done very well the job was not completed. When I requested that they finish it I was told it was not part of the job. It looked terrible. I then agreed to pay 1,000 dollars more on top of the 10,000 dollars I already gave him. He agreed to come back but never did. Thankfully I didn't give him anymore money. I ended up paying an excellent handyman 350 dollars to complete the job and put the rain gutter back up. In addition, he never paid for or picked up the building permit and no inspection was ever done so the town contacted me and I had to pay the $135 for a permit six months after the work was done. He told me he would take care of the permit out of my initial deposit. Shame on me for believing he would be a professional. In short get everything in writing! His contract was terrible. Ask for receipts for everything and make sure all the work is clearly agreed upon. I blame myself for being taken advantage of but shame on them!

Joe was very professional the whole way. I did not know what type of deck I wanted, so he worked with me to identify the deck that would suit our needs and not be too expensive. For example, he recommended going with pressure treated wood for the surface of the deck and plastic / aluminum / Trex railings, because the surface could be much more easily painted than the railings, and it would save several thousand dollars. He also told me about maximum sizes per row of posts, and the added cost of deck surface and the added cost of another row of posts. We ended up with a 16'x20' deck. For the structure, he used screw-in post supports (a metal post several feet long with large 8 inch screw threads at the bottom end) which I guess prevent frost heaves better than concrete pilings. He used ground-contact rated lumber for everything except the deck surface. He protected the house from water damage by installing two types of sealing methods (something like tarpaper, then a plastic covering over that), when only one of those is required. He explained all of this to me after it was done. The bottom of the stairs were placed on the ground, instead of on some sort of concrete/post footing, but the lumber is supposedly ground-contact rated, so we'll see what happens. I will need to paint the deck in the spring time, since that needs doing at least 6 months after it is installed. The door took some time to order, but once it arrived he installed in promptly. During the process, he discovered that the wall under the old window (which got ripped out) had 7 electrical wires running through that. As might be expected, I had to pay an additional $600 beyond what we originally agreed upon for moving those and installing an outlet and light box, and a switch, but it was worth it. There were a couple times where one of the workers was sick or it was raining, so he had to reschedule, but that is to be expected. His team's work was very good, and they were all very professional. The lawn needed a bit of cleanup after they finished the front awning (a few screws and sawdust piles), but nothing I couldn't handle. Things were cleaned up and finished properly even after I paid the final payment (one of the guys needed to come back twice to touch up spackling around the new door; I was responsible for painting). He noted that this rating on Angie's list is very important to him. I do believe that if anything else were to go wrong, even after he got paid, he would be professional enough to return to fix it promptly.

Any issues that popped up (which do happen on about any job) the owner took care of the issue quickly and I could tell he wanted to have me satisfied at the end of the job. Just like I was. The process for hiring a contractor was highly stressful and I feel very confident I found the best company I could have to do the work I needed done. I will hire them for any porch i ever get built in this area.

Once we had estimate and agreed to it, contract was done up and signed, Jeff and Joe handled the permit and set a date, they called and asked if date could be moved up( they had a cancellation or a job that was done quicker), I of course was good with deck done sooner. Joe and his crew had the lumber delivered and they arrived early on day of start of the project. Once they started, the work was done in 2 or 3 days( I can't remember fully). The deck went up perfect, looks great. I had one concern about something that was not communicated clearly at time of contract( backs of stairs- I wanted with risers, not open to the area under/behind each step), He took care of it and it came out beautiful. Before leaving, he went over how to protect/seal the deck- how long to wait due to newer lumber and gave me product recommendations.

Excellent Exterior & Deck Company are just that...EXCELLENT. They removed our existing deck and built a new deck using great Trek materials. Everyone who came to our home to work was extremely nice, hard working, and polite. I've never seen a crew keep a work site so clean and tidy. Nothing was left laying in the yard or out of place at the end of each work day. I'd highly recommend Joe and his team!

We called them on a Thursday and he came between his sons baseball games, came on a Sunday morning, I was pleased with his responsiveness. It was a little higher then we thought but it was close to the other estimate we got. Very prompt, courteous and gave us the estimate.

They were here a total of 2-3 weeks. They did great work. They left a couple of things here, but came back and picked them up. They cleaned up the grounds pretty well. I think Joe is the primary guy, and he paid really good attention to detail. He went above and beyond on a few aspects of the deck to make it look nice and presentable. It was usually him plus two assistants. They were all very friendly and nice. I did not have any complaints with them.

It is my pleasure to recommend the Excellent Exterior and Deck Company (EEDC). The owner, Joseph Vitale, and his team - Zach, Brian, and Marty – are craftsmen who strive to make the homeowners vision a reality. In this review I will focus on four main subcategories; cleanliness, craftsmanship, project completion, and value. With respect to cleanliness, EEDC arrived with an organized plan to complete the project. And during the project I knew my property was being treated as if it was theirs. For example, whenever machinery was required, his team would place large composite mats down to protect the lawn from the wheels and treads. This attention-to-detail paid off, as my lawn quickly recovered, which was not my experience in past projects where contractors didn’t make that effort. On the subject or craftsmanship, EEDC is capable of very nice work. Zach leads the charge on the craftsmanship front. If not formally, he is the de facto leader when Joe is not on site. I credit him with my outstanding deck step and vinyl siding integration. Another notable on the subject of craftsmanship are the GoliathTech Helical Screw piles used as the deck frame foundation. Joe is a certified GoliathTech installer and this system is the best I’ve seen to date. With respect to considering the project complete, Joe worked every issue until I was satisfied, as it should be. His ability to allow me to openly communicate my concerns and address them stands out as the single most important trait I look for in anyone that works for me. Finally, on cost, can you have a deck built less expensively? Probably. But I believe that the entire process needs to be factored in. EEDC uses top shelf materials, employs craftsman, completes the project quickly, and follows up to ensure you’re a satisfied homeowner. Like any typical consumer I wanted to get a few quotes for the work being done. In my case I contacted and met with 4 contractors for the job. I wanted my old deck and surrounding shrubs removed and new composite deck (Trex in my case) installed. As usual I received varying responses and pricing; all said they could do it. We chose Excellent Exterior & Deck primarily because we felt very comfortable with Joe. Not only was his price competitive, we also liked the idea of the Goliath Tech Helix pile system vs concrete cylinders. However, the real difference maker was Joe, we appreciated his straight forward no nonsense approach along with his willingness to provide ideas plus we didn't feel like he was trying to sell us anything more than what we wanted. It turned out to be a good choice. Joe and his team showed up on Monday and worked solely on our project until it was done. They were clean and respectful of our property including laying down mats to protect the lawn. We're very happy with the final product and the quality of work. We'd recommend Joe to family and friends.

The company came to my home and provided an on-site estimate for various options. They took care of obtaining the building permit and provided an engineering plan as part of the price. They came to do the work as scheduled, offered suggestions and were willing to make changes, such as relocating stairs, as needed. The work is of very high quality and the price is fair. The construction is very solid and first-rate. Joe and his crew work hard, are very professional and were a pleasure to do business with. The job site was completely cleaned before they left and Joe provided tips on staining and maintenance. I would recommend this company for anyone building a deck.

We met the owner Joe and his Sales Rep Jeff at the Home Show in Albany at the end of February; they followed up immediately, gave us a quote and started work on our project within a few weeks. They were VERY reliable; worked on week-ends and even when the weather didn't cooperate; it was literally snowing the first day and they showed up and did the work they had to do! Joe and his team went above and beyond to ensure the end result was perfect. All the guys were very respectful and had the same work ethic, which you can tell comes from the top. We were able to collaborate on the design and our vision was brought to life by Joe, and his crew Pat and Raoul. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend them to anyone and hope to work with them again someday as other projects develop.

From the moment we agreed to have the work done, until the last day when the work was finished, we didn't have to concern ourselves with any details at all. Joe took care of everything. The only thing we had to do was periodically approve what was completed. The work was exceptional, and done in a timely fashion with no disturbance to landscape or neighbors. Everything went very well with this project. Actually, this was the only contractor I could get to make an in-person visit and estimate. The other companies I called gave a bit higher to extremely higher estimates over the phone. We knew what we wanted and our expectations were met. The owner, Joe, was very accommodating to our needs and schedule. We worked together to get the job done while working around both of our schedules. Joe also installed a screen door to the deck from the house, which wasn't initially discussed. The two workers who did most of the work were very prompt and friendly. This was a big job and a BIG deck. It was a complicated job as well, because it involved a flat roof garage, a membrane over it that was compromised and replacement of deck surface and fencing and repair of the garage ceiling with installation of two garage windos and trim. After many contractor visits and only one other bid-- we went with Joe and his team because Joe was confident and enthusiastic about this project. He had never done a membrane installation with decking over it and while daunting, he embarked on the project with gusto. The price was high, but fair, and we were using the very best materials. We went with all of the materials Joe recommended and he promised to do an excellent job. His enthusiasm and interest in doing the job and starting right away convinced us that he and his team were the right choice. Well, they delivered. His team consisted of Joe, Pat and Paul and all of them did an outstanding job. The deck looks extraordinary-- very sleek and modern with the cable rail system replacing older pressure treated fencing that was undistinguished. The rail system gives the deck a truly unique look. It took his team about 2 weeks to complete the job and afterwards we had several items that needed to be addressed. Joe was so responsive and came to the house while we were away to complete the remaining items. There are one or two little items left to check in on and I know that Joe will be back to finish them up when he has a few moments. We appreciated the professionalism of his team... they all know their stuff when it comes to decks. I would highly recommend them to friends and colleagues and have been singing their praises. I would not hesitate to call upon Joe in the future.

The experience and product were excellent. Joe's bid came in more than $10,000 less than others, and he promised to complete the work in a much shorter time span. Joe delivered in every way. He was professional, responsive, and intent on delivering exactly what we wanted. The deck is beautiful. We are thrilled. The service was tremendous. Joe was prompt, met or exceeded all deadlines, and delivered more that we expected. At the very end of the project, we had a bit of an issue with his crew leaving some debris. Not a huge deal, but enough to call Joe because it was so out of character. The problem was solved immediately, and Joe returned the following week to make sure all was well. This was by far our best experience with a local contractor. We recommend Excellent Exteriors unequivocally.

Had them replace the front porch. Work was done on schedule and on budget. Only delay was waiting for the building inspectors to inspect and approve the depth of the support column concert pour holes. Totally out of the builders control. The workers were very professional and accommodating. Contract was very clear and concise. All my questions and concerns were addressed quickly. I?m planning on putting a deck on the back of the house in the future and I would welcome them back to do the job. Two big thumbs up.

We had called Joe for the first time in 2014. He was very prompt to reply and met us within couple of days.He gave us ideas and helped us design the deck. He gave a instant quote which was awesome. But for some reason we postponed the idea to built a deck. Then in april of this year we decided to go ahead and made our mind to call Joe again for the deck and finalize everything. He was again very helpful and had all details of our estimation from last time. After reviewing the revised estimate and we decide to go ahead. He gave a estimated start date and started all other work regarding the deck like permits, etc. The work on the deck started right on the date Joe had promised. There were two other individuals who worked with Joe on the deck. All of them were very nice and dedicated people. They worked constantly and got the deck ready within 4 days. I had no complains whatsoever with the whole process. I would recommend Joe to everybody.

Joe responded to our initial inquiry within a day or so and immediately set up a time to looked at the job and discuss our options. We can honestly say they constructed our deck as if it were their own. This was the first project where we used a professional and virtually had to do absolutely nothing Joe and his crew did it all. From obtaining the approval from the town to cleaning up the the yard at the end. The deck is absolutely beautiful it's only been a few days but we anticipate enjoying it for thousands more.
