Called Chris Kelly at Valley Oil after the central air system stopped cooling the house and after being informed by another company that had been servicing the system for the former owners of my house that there was a leak in the system. I was told by the other company that the way to fix the leak was to inject a special dye into the system that can be seen with ultraviolet light and special glasses, helping to pinpoint the leak's location, which can then be sealed. Chris also described the same procedure, and since I was familiar with Valley Oil due to heating system service calls they had made at a house I was renting, I decided to give them the job. Two workers, Brian and Gary, showed up the next day, and started using a leak detector to try to find the leak, instead of performing the dye injection. After checking around the condenser, a few braised parts of the line, and the evaporation coils, they declared that they couldn't find a leak. They then proceeded to inject a sealant into the system, and recharged it with fresh coolant. They assured me that the leak must be tiny, and that the sealant should do the trick, and they left. One month later, the system again stopped cooling, and it was clear that all of the coolant has leaked out. I called Chris again to complain that we were back to square one, and he set up another service call with one of his technicians the same day. Brian arrived, and removed the covers on the condenser (almost bending one of the panels because he forgot to remove the middle screw) and I proceeded to vacuum the dust from the fins. First Brian thought he had located a leak in the condenser, but a few minutes later, declared that there wasn't a leak there. Then he ran the detector around a few other places, and then declared that he had found a leak near the evaporation coils inside the house. However, he indicated that the fitting was tight at the coils and that there must be a and quot;pin holeand quot; in it. Then he told me that it was likely the coils needed to be replaced, and that Chris would be calling with a quote to put in a new one. Just before Brian leaves, I find two screw pipe end caps on the window sill which he had forgotten to put back on the condenser unit. Bottom line, there are red flags galore with the quality of these two service calls. One, they never performed the job they were initially contracted for, which was for the dye injection. Second, on the second service call, they again failed to perform the dye injection. Third, I don't believe they actually found any leaks with the leak detector, and are blindly preaching the and quot;if you can't fix it, replace itand quot; mantra of so many so-called professional service technicians. I can't recommend them for service calls of the type I needed, and now I will be calling the other company to perform the dye injection test that should have been done in the first place.
