He promises to give 100 percent fiberglass in the bathroom. It wasn't fiberglass, it was plastic. He walked off my job when I accused him and never came back to finish off what I paid for. I have tried to go after him but the attorney general told me that he went bankrupt. I am still trying to go after him for doing things that he didn't do.
Description of Work: I went from a tub to a shower.

As I said, Steve is neither a LICENSED plumber or electrician in the County of Onondaga, though he will DO both on your property. His electrical skills are POOR! Steve installed an overhead light/fan/ vent unit that malfunctioned and nearly started a fire in my attic. I awoke early AM to find the issue and SHUT OFF power at the breaker. Next day an electrician stated my house nearly had a fire. The NUTONE unit had to be replaced. You might think this is just a 'fluke' (that the overhead vent unit was defective...) But, on the weekend following the install, my dad came to visit. My dad informed me that the new Kohler toilet was LEAKING around the base/ flange....BIG TIME. It had been leaking slowly for a couple of days and gotten under the vinyl flooring and luan plywood, I had not detected it, but he is a 'handyman' and noticed it right away. He managed to get the flange to seal by turning down the flange bolts 3 complete turns on both sides. That's 3 whole turns on both sides of the toilet to get a SEAL. Just sloppy work on Steve's part. There were many other issues: besides the poor electrical work on the heater/vent...Steve's men ducted the work with DUCT TAPE.....not with the louvred vent /outside protector that is code. There were many other problems TOO NUMEROUS to write up here. I will mention that I was (personally) SCALDED for a few moments when I took my first shower. Steve installed the temperature control valve incorrectly. This contractor's work is beyond 'sloppy' , it does not meet accepted standards. Don't be lured by the work you see in his ads (usually Clipper Magazine, etc). The work in the ad looks good enough.........but I could let you see... the bathroom job I received looks WORSE than what he took out. My bathroom looks nothing like #1 Family Builder ads. It's absolutely SICKENING, like a kick in the stomach to spend $5,500 plus another $2,000 to try and correct for damages here. To make matters worse, I am a DISABLED VETERAN. I am 100% disabled from broken neck injury and can't to much of this kind of work. I live on a FIXED income . I have digital picture to POST on this site which I will ad later. I don't want anyone else to SUFFER the way this man has made me suffer since April '08. Seems many agencies / good contractors in CNY want a piece of this guy....because folks like him give the TRADES a bad name.
Description of Work: I hired Steve Davis aka #1 Family Builders to remodel my bathroom in April '08. This was NOT a 'bath-over' type remodel. I t was a COMPLETE demolition and rebuild. This man left me with a bathroom which was WORSE (less attractive and functional) than the one he destroyed. I had NUMEROUS problems with the bath which I will describe below. I wanted to show here how difficult it is to make one of these contractors REMEDIATE your issues AFTER you've had them in your house. The time to PROTECT your house and it's functionality and VALUE is BEFORE you let someone come in to do their thing whether good , bad, or down right horrible. This contractor is NOT licensed to perform electrical or plumbing work for hire in Onondaga County. The plumbing board (WEP) has attempted to catch him (while doing work) and FINE him for quite some time. I attempted to STOP PAYMENT on his check IMMEDIATELY following this work. My type of payment was 'good as cash' and this contractor had his monies 2-3 after being paid. Then I attempted to get help from Onondaga sheriff, WEP, NYS Underwriters, eventually NYS Attorney Generals Office. After much research, only AG office ended up actually helping me. My CLAIM/ case number was 2009-764191. You may be able to see how this case 'played out' if you visit the NY AG website.
