J & K Masonry

Description of Work: J & K Masonry of Centereach, NY 11720 [Tel. (631) 737-9452] [www.JandKmasonry.com] came quickly to assess problem and show us photos of their work. They gave me an unwritten estimate along with License number. I checked with Suffolk County Office of Consumer Affairs, Licensing and Complaint Department and determined that J & K Masonry has a valid home improvement license until March 2013 and no complaints on record (office only keeps any complaints for last 12 months). At my request, J & K Masonry gave me a written estimate for two jobs to be done at same time: (1) repair top of brick chimney down to roof-line, about seven feet; (2) create brick steps in place of deteriorating concrete back steps. The estimated cost for both jobs was reasonable compared to other estimates for chimney alone. At start of work, they erected a metal scaffold and removed several feet of brick. They determined that the upper two sections of ceramic flue pieces inside the chimney were cracked for both fireplace and furnace passageways. We were pleased that replacing them did not increase the cost given in the estimate. On day one, they dismantled and started to replace top seven feet of chimney. Also on day one, they prepared concrete base for new brick steps. On day two, they completed the chimney. A month later, it still looks professional and good. Also on day two, they finished cementing bricks for the back steps and laid blue stones on top to make a very attactive back porch to go with the steps. A month later it still looks excellent.

Description of Work: J & S Masonry ripped out our old chimney and replaced it with a new brick chimney. They charged a very fair price.
