see above I would like to respond to Lori....one question how could you tell me to deduct for 2 hours (men going to breakfast) and now lie....also if the men were waiting for National Grid to turn off power how could they go first thing in the am to get materials when they did not even know where the problem was located or what the problem was.
Description of Work: We called Automatic Utilities for service. I will be brief until I go to court on May 27th. I received my bill from AU and was charged 8 hours for 2 men totaling 16 hours. The problem was they were not here for 8 hours and one of the employees sat in the truck the whole time. When I called to discuss the labor charges I was told to deduct 2 hours (they went to breakfast for one hour). I said the labor charges were still off. The owner was going to call me back. After with the owner and explaining that they were not here for 8 hours and one employee stayed in the truck...his reply was how do I know that...well we work out of the house!!!! He. was going to check with his men....after two weeks of a $1600.00 outstanding and no reply from him we paid for all materials (who knows if that amount was correct) and 8 hours of labor to be distributed the way he wanted to. The men were not here 8 hours, they took another hour for breakfast, who know how long for lunch and left at 3:30pm. Automatic Utilities is now taking us to court for the difference. I am sooo glad I joined Angie's list and found out that I am not the only one. I also found another person that had the same problem with labor hours on another site. If AU proceeds with the court date I will be contacting the BBB and the Attorney General's Office to investigate. What I paid them was extremely fair.....maybe even too much.

In brief due to we are going to court on this issue, the owner did try several times to contact you about this issue. The one time he did reach your husband, he could not discuss this due to the fact he "over talked" him the entire time then hung up on him. We were called out on an emergency for 1/2 power to the whole house and no water due to power issues. The hour the men were gone in the morning were to get the material needed to complete your job. The job was completed on the same day, inspection done and power turned back on. Billable hours also include travel time to the job site and then back to shop.

Initially, I was happy with the helpful woman in the office and the apparent know-how of the man who actually did the work. But things started to go downhill when the job took twice as long as expected. I had a tight budget and spoke candidly with the woman in the office at least twice before the job was scheduled to ensure that I had the money to cover the job. Contrary to her word, however, the job took four hours instead of two, despite a lack of complications that would have legitimized that overage. My distress was made more severe when I received the bill, charging me for six and a half hours of labor (instead of the actual four). I was also charged for a second six and a half hours of labor for the second man who participated in the repair, even though this was never disclosed to me on the two occassions that I spoke with the woman in the office prior to the completion of the job. When I called the office to dispute the bill, I was informed that the extra two and a half hours of labor charges were for travel time, even though I live ten minutes from Automatic Utilities. I was also told that I was obligated to pay the second man's labor charge, because otherwise he would not be paid. While a less than desireable offer was made to reduce the bill somewhat, the job still cost me almost twice what I was estimated. I felt terribly ill-used.

This job ended up not just replacing the distribution box as originally was needed, there was as 10 feet of pipe and fittings that needed replacing as well. Underground work is not visible to the eye until uncovered. There was additional work that needed done and got done. After some discussion with the homeowner and A/U's owner, we issued a re-bill to the customer with a reduction of this bill by $408.

I used them a long time ago and I was not at all happy with them. They gave me a price quote and I said I would accept that as long as they don't exceed that amount. They agreed. Instead, the job did exceed that number. It was probably 3 years ago. My experience was not good with them. I should have asked for a written quote. They only confirmed verbally. They filed suit against me and reported me to credit agencies. I had to get an attorney. I communicated with them in writing and they wrote back. Ironically in these situations, when you have a lawyer, he said to me, just going to go to court over this is going to cost more than the amount. So we settled. It was not a good experience. I hate on principle having to do that kind of thing. It was not a large amount of money, but it was the principle. The experience was not good. They installed a new line for a hot tub. I would not use the services again.

This work was completed in 2005. We stalled the electricity to the new hot tub, running wires in a finished basement. Customer assured us there was no problem in the "chase way", however when doing the job we found issues, and had to make changes as to how the wire was run. Customer was aware of these problems.

They were good. The price was reasonable. The quality, I can't tell so far as they have only been onsite a couple of days, from what I have seen the quality is very good. They are very responsive. Punctuality is good. I will use their services again in the future. They are professional.

It was a good experience. Since these situations are always emergencies (even if they aren't) to the homeowner, I felt that their response and efficiency were excellent.
Description of Work: I had a clogged drain. They came within two hours of my call (before they had said they had estimated getting here) and in less than an hour they had the problem solved. They were thorough and waited to test things to make sure that the clog was cleared and everything working properly.

Would not recommend. I have delt with more proffessional companies. The office smells of fuel oil all the time and is cold.
Description of Work: I was on caill oll budget. I paid the FINAL bill of $800 and had her mail a paid receipt. I specifically told her I did not want anymore deliveries. Within two days they dropped over 210 gallons at the higher winter price. I had just paid $800 dollars the day before. The owner wanted to come and pump it out to sell to some one else. I said no because I had been told this disrupts any sediments from the tank bottom and is not good for the tank. I had to pay the highest price for fuel that sat there all summer when theprice dropped from $3.59 to $2.09 a gallon. An extra $140 wasted. I would not recommend because this is sloppy bookwork and communication.

THE CUSTOMER ORIGINALLY CALLED TO SET UP AN ACCOUT FOR FUEL ON 12/10/10, AT THAT TIME ASKED TO GO ON AUTOMATIC DELIVERY. She did call for a receipt to which was mailed out immediately. The only other thing discussed was she wanted a discount on the fuel she had already received. If she had paid the fuel within the 10 days allowed for the discounted price, she would have gotten it. She was due for the next delivery, so she received one due to the fact she was on automatic delivery. She called very upset about the delivery, we tried to reason with her to no avail. even dropped the fuel price down to $3.50 instead of $3.75 at the time. If she was not going to pay for the fuel we wanted to pump it out, this would not have effected her furnace as stated in the letter we sent her. At no time this year has the price of fuel ever gotten to $2.09 a gallon. The lowest has been $3.45 back in September. We feel we tried to reason with her. Unfortunately we were not able to please her.

Automatic Utilities, serving Cazenovia and environs, is a family-owned business. A.U. is extremely reliable and responsive. They perform big projects and small. Furthermore, they know what they've done previously on your house, enabling them to fine-tune subsequent work and not to do anything duplicative. Prices are at the market rate. Service is attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.
