Don and crew were great. Don explained exactly what the process would be and the timing. He and his team showed up when he said they would. They were polite and worked very cleanly. They showed me multiple stain samples to help me make a good decision. My floors are gorgeous and it s all because of Don and his team.

Don met us for the estimate. That is when he explained everything about the floors and what it would take to get them done from start to finish. He gave us a very fair estimate for the amount of work to be done and was able to get it done in our time frame of one week. They were actually done one day earlier. Everything went exactly as he explained to us. Don and his workers are professionals and did a great job and we would highly recommend them to our friends and family.

Don originally met with my wife and she was impressed with his professionalism and honesty. On the day of the service, Don was at the house when promised and was very thorough. Throughout the process, I received updates via text message. Despite injuring himself during the work, Don made sure that the job was done on schedule. Once finished, Don met with us to walk through the work, how to care for the floors going forward and what we should avoid doing. Very thorough, professional and good. Don and his team were great from start to finish. Don came out initially to provide an estimate and explain the pros and cons of choosing either a water- or oil-based product. (We decided on the water-based product because it?s both environmental and pet friendly, and the cost difference was minimal.) Don and his crew worked around my tight schedule, arrived on time, worked diligently and were always polite and helpful. Our floors look AMAZING, and the pride in workmanship is evident. Don was very easy to work with. I was able to schedule an appointment for a quote easily. Don was prompt & professional. He was patient in describing his process and answering questions. They cleaned up at the end of each day, even though we were not yet living in the house. We had a few spots that needed retouched & Don was equally responsive. If you are looking for your hardwood floors to be sanded, re-stained and sealed you can stop looking. You just found your guy right here. Before I continue I want you to know I am not affiliated with Don at all; in fact using him was the first time I used a contractor from Angie's List. Before we moved all of our furniture into our new home we wanted to have the floors done - I'm sure you would agree that it makes sense. Actually, before we even closed on the house the current homeowners allowed us to bring over some contractors for estimates on the hardwood flooring. I used Angie's List to find the top 7 hardwood flooring people (probably the same 7 that you are currently sorting through if you are reading this). I scheduled all 7 to show up on the same day to provide estimates for identical work. Many of the other companies did not send the owner - I have no issue with that but these employees did not seem that they truly wanted to do the job. They came in, measured, wrote an estimate, handed it to me and left within 15-20 minutes. They did not ask if I had any questions or make any suggestions. Don is a laid back guy (in a good way) who is not in a rush and basically asked me what we were looking for and why. He said, "even if you don't go with my company, let's discuss what and why you are choosing to do what you are saying you want done". He explained to me why I wanted the newer water based formulas vs. the older oil based etc. I'm very good at reading people and I knew that I got a good vibe from Don and that he was not here to b.s. me. He gave me an estimate (the lowest of all 7) and the next day I called him to confirm he would be doing the work (two weeks away since we had to close on the house first). Don was extremely flexible in allowing us the exact date that we wanted the services to begin (day after closing). I met him (on a Sunday no less!) to choose the color, gave him a deposit, and handed him my garage door remote since I would not be home for him to do the job. We were unsure about the color and Don invited us to his home to take a look at the colors he has done in his house. We declined the offer but it was a nice thing for him to do nonetheless. I came by each day to check on him and his guys who were very clean, respectful, and ended up being trustworthy. The job took 3 days and wow is all I can say. The day after the job was complete I met Don back at my house to pay him the final amount and get my garage door remote back There was not a noticeable smell and we waited 48 hours to move in our furniture. I've recommended Don to 2 friends that I know and I really can't say enough good things about him. I will attempt to upload pictures of the job shortly.

the work with Don went just as we hoped. He responded to our call, came to provide an estimate, and stayed in touch until the work was scheduled. He completed the work within the time he estimated.

Don was knowledgeable, friendly and got the job done well. His was the highest estimate but I trusted him in my home and the floors look beautiful.

The work took approximately five days. We were not yet living in the house, and we had other work going on at the time, so its difficult for me to speak to how much dust was created, but it definitely seemed minimal. We weren't exactly sure of what stain to go with so Don made a few suggestions and showed us samples on the actual floor once they were sanded down. We ended up going with English Chestnut and the finished product came out beautiful. He had a difficult job to do in the room where he installed new flooring due to existing base moulding and radiators, but he went the extra mile to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction. On the floors that we were refinishing some of the older pieces of wood had cracks in them so he replaced those without any additional cost. One of the rooms had actually been done by the prior owner of the house sometime in the past year and the quality was poor. The finish was rough to the touch, and there were small beads coming up from the woodgrains -- so we had Don refinish that floor as well and it came out 100% better. There was one small issue that we noticed after the job was completed -- it looked like a small piece of paint had flaked off the wall and stuck to the floor before it had dried. He came over the next day to fix that up. Don was very knowledgeable and personable, and a pleasure to do business with. We did receive estimates from other contractors and Don's prices were in-line. Given the great job that he did we would absolutely recommend him to anyone in need of work on their hardwood floors.

On the positive side, Don seems very knowledgeable, his work was of high quality, and he went the extra mile when we had problems with the finished product (he came and re-stained the wood and re-sanded and finished the two rooms with the new wood). He always called if he was going to be late and his work was pretty dust-free (compared to others we have used - had good machinery and also used plastic between living spaces.) Because he "stood by his work," he did not charge us to come back to make the new floors match the other floors better. On the negative side, he originally told us it would take 3 days and actually it took two weeks (plus an extra week that we requested when we asked him to redo 2 rooms). His estimate for the work was originally $3,400 - but when he got here to do the work and saw the extent of the repair work needed, and he suggested 2 brand new floors, the estimate rose to $5,000. We were OK with that, but then when it actually came time to pay him, the amount was $6,400, which seemed quite a bit off from his second estimate. We felt that if he had checked back with us more routinely, that he might have avoided needing to come back to re-sand, re-stain and refinish. He also seemed to hold his view of "what should be" over our desire for what we wanted.

I found Don's company on Angie's list. He came to house when he said he would and gave a reasonable estimate. His crew showed up on time, helped to move a radiator that we could not get out of the way and worked diligently to follow up. Hardly any dust from sanding process. The floors turned out great. Don called to follow up on job and offered to help move back all the furniture. I would highly recommend him to others.

We became Angie's list members to find recommendations for our new home given that this is the first time we live in the East Coast. Don was our first search on the list and from the very first contact Don was extremely responsive, clear and very easy to deal with. He always showed up on time. He explained the options and his recommendations. The work was performed while we were away from the house (we had not moved in yet). The house was clean and all trash was organized precisely as agreed (carpet was cut in 1 feet rolls for easy transport and other trash was properly bagged). The floors really look nice and in tune with the age of the house - specially considering that the rooms are all in the attic and the there is at least 3 different types of wood in the floor. We are now fans of Angie's list and the exceptional value it delivers to people moving to new locations - it is just like good friend recommendations.

Don, the owner, was very happy to meet with us at off hours, when it was convenient for all parties. He was very responsive and flexible. He went over all options available to us in layman's terms so it was easy to understand. He provided instructions on how to care for the floors after they were done. He brought in a crew that was very competent. They were very thorough in their work. I intentionally waited about six months to post this review in order to see how well the floors upheld over at least a few months. They look as good as they did when the work was done. We are very happy with the results and gladly recommend them and would use them again.

After recently purchasing our house in Darien, my wife and I decided to redo all of our hardwood floors. I have had some experience doing floors myself, so I know what is a reasonable price and immediately went with Don based upon reviews I read on Angie's List. Don was very punctual and professional throughout the process, easy to get by cell phone and has some very good guys working for him. He was able to take out old stains wood (probably from pets) and repair some water damaged wood throughout the house. And while, I had a few panicked moments when the stain went on, he was completed right when giving advice about which colors would look good in our house. If he needs to, he will work quickly, but in our case (because he could) he took a little extra time (he waited a full day) to stain because of the moisture in the air. I am very please with the outcome and would definitely recommend Don's services. PS - some contractors will tell you to replace hardwood floors before even thinking about what could really be done with old floors. I would suggest that you see how nice a refinished floor can really look.

We were first time home buyers and had never worked with a contractor before. Don took great care to educate us about our options. He took all of our variables into consideration (small children, timeline) and helped us make a thoughtful and educated decision. He was extremely responsive when we called and always delivered exactly what he said he would. He was super prompt and reliable. Showing up every day exactly when he said he would and calling us at night to explain in detail what he had done that day and what we might notice in the floors. He did a final walk through and let us know about a few things we might opt to do further down the line. But, of course, most importantly - the floors LOOK FANTASTIC! The former owner saw them and couldn't believe what a difference it makes in the house. They are absolutely beautiful. Don is truly great to work with!

It went very well. We got a good price and the employees who did the work were very meticulous. Refinishing a floor is messy work by definition, but they worked as cleanly as was possible. They mixed the stain to our exact requirements and we are very pleased with the result. They also came back the day after to bring back the furniture into the kitchen. The only thing we would note that there is nothing you can do about the noxious fumes for the first couple of days. Just plan on spending as much time away from the house as possible!

Don was prompt, polite and clearly knowledgeable. He called a day ahead to confirm our appointment. Sanding resulted in minimal clean up. The first mixture of stain was close, but not perfect. Don modified the color and voila!...a match! Don had his assistant re-sand and re-apply the new color (no extra charge). Other floor experts (who quoted me twice the price) told me that I could never get the floors to match, but Don did it!!! I'm very happy and highly recommend Don's Flooring.

Don returned my call immediately. He came, explained the process and gave me a price. His crew arrived punctually and explained what they would do and the time frame, only 2 days. They showed me what the floor would look like if left natural and then with a stain. They used a "dustless" vacuum to sand the floors and a water based finish which really cut down on the fumes. The stain only had to be applied once so the fumes were nothing like when I had the floors done years ago with an oil based process. The finish was applied three times the second day. It dried quickly and the floors look amazing. Don came to see the finished product. He answered all my questions on upkeep.

I got two high estimates through a general contractor, then looked at the list and called Don. Don was polite and thorough. He might not look or talk like a gentleman (he'd be the first to tell you that), but he gives great service nonetheless. He was on time for the estimate and wrote it up right away. It was lower than the competition, with better materials. He got to work quickly, always looked for ways to save me money, including reusing old materials, and was fast. His men were all polite and punctual, and only did the sanding and polishing -- Don did all else himself. He allowed me to tip his crew, which I did. He never complained about little things, such as some junk I had in the way or old tacks in the floor, and just took care of it himself. He never came up with hidden costs or surprises, and was flexible when I needed my patchers/painters to work in the same place instead of him. My inexperience and finances strung out the project, but as long as I gave him a bit of advance notice, he worked around me and my other renovation needs. He did not push for an expensive fix to a leveling problem in the kitchen, and solved it with a few shingles. He sanded/polished the landing, though it was not included. In short, Don is an honorable, intelligent, efficient workingman and deserves your business.

They were on time and finished the job in four days as they quoted. They were professional and knowledgeable. They were referred to me by a friend and I found them on Angie's List. They did a beautiful job.

The estimate was right on, both timing and price. Don and his assistant, Dee, did a great job explaining the products he was using and what the floors would look like when complete. They showed up on time, there was minimal dust and I'm very happy with their work. We'll have them back to do the same job upstairs in the bedrooms.

Don came to our home to give us an estimate and to explain the process he recommended for a kitchen floor. He gave us a very thorough explanation of his choice of methods and materials. Dates were scheduled with his office. Don and his workers, particularly Albin, arrived on time and began to cover exposed areas. They did a very thorough job of protecting the cabinets. However, the doors leading out of the rooms should also have been sealed to reduce the dust from sanding reaching other rooms. The work was completed in a timely way, so that the rooms could be used in a reasonable amount of time. The material used did not leave any offensive odors. I had a question about one small spot and Albin returned and took care of it. The floors look lovely.
